Max's Law Adult Changing Spaces

Max's Law Adult Changing Spaces

Lisa talks with Audra Beasley and Representative Mickey Dollens concerning Max's Law and adult changing tables in public restrooms. Because EVERYONE deserves a safe private place to do personal business! Audra Beasley, Public restrooms at present can only accommodate babies. Audra and her family want to change that, thats why you need to pay attention to the need for universal changing stations in restrooms that allow for older children and adults who need their attendants to attend to their personal hygiene needs for them during the workday to be able to do so with cleanliness and dignity.  Currently, those who need that level of care and weigh more than a baby just have to lie on the floor of a public restroom for the process. Audra shares how she began a partnership and foundation to make this big accessibility issue a priority for her son Max and everyone else who needs a safe private place to do personal business most of us take for granted. Representative Mickey Dollens was one of the 208 Oklahoma City Public Schools teachers laid off in 2016 due to the budget cuts set forth by the Oklahoma legislature. Instead of searching for alternative employment or moving out of state, Dollens chose to focus his energy on winning election and reforming the Oklahoma Legislature. He launched his campaign in April 2016. Showing what a hard worker he is, In the summer of 2016, Dollens knocked on around twenty thousand doors, which led to winning the Democratic Primary.  Representative Dollens serves on the following committees: Tourism, Vice Chair A&B Education Health Services and Long-Term Care Transportation Send locks and keys to support Max's Law and equal public restroom access to Representative Dollens.  Let him know you appreciate his efforts for equitable changing  spaces. Deidre Thompson Resolute Advocacy And Intervention

Deidre Thompson Resolute Advocacy And Intervention

I'm a married mom of three sons. I live in a frat house! Two are teenagers living exceptional lives with autism. My oldest is experiencing puberty, autism, and was recently diagnosed with DMDD so I am experienced in some components of mental health as well. My sons are the reason I became an advocate. I was experiencing a breakdown in communication with the school, I didn't know my parents' rights, and I often felt overwhelmed and alone at IEP meetings. I googled a free conference one day and found the Oklahoma Parents Center. I also joined a local support group here in Muskogee called Autism Muskogee, under the larger statewide umbrella of Autism Oklahoma. I went on to later be recruited as a trainer for the Oklahoma Parents Center and trained parents and attended meetings as an advocate for four years. I then became the support group leader of Autism Muskogee after my mentor retired about six years ago.

I have a strong background in working with and advocating for children. I am a former CASA volunteer turned coordinator, I served on the Oklahoma Rehabilitation Council while I worked for OPC, and now I serve on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Disability Law Center.
I went into private practice as an educational consultant because parents kept finding me via Facebook and would direct message me for help. I continued to help families and decided to make it official by starting my own business. Most of my clientele is in Tulsa or the surrounding districts but I cover the entire state of OK and have assisted families in other states as well.
