124. Emotional Intelligence & Why You Need It with Ashley Valliere

Maybe you've heard the term "emotional intelligence" before but it might feel too abstract to be useful.
This week I'm joined by EI Educator, Ashley Valliere, who's teaching us what EI even is, why we need it, and sharing practical tips to work on developing it.
We even dive into how EI can help you overcome emotional eating!

In Ashley’s 15 year journey working with people (as a personal fitness trainer, massage therapist, and now completing her Bodynamic muscular psychotherapy program) she noticed some peculiar things with her clients over the years. Most notably emotional outbursts in sessions (anger, sadness, shame ect); as well, she took a special interest in people's posture and body language. These curiosities began a decade long search for the missing link between brain and body. Her specialities are in decoding the body, learning how to navigate how it communicates and emotional intelligence.

94. How to Get More Willpower (In The Top 9 Areas You're Currently Struggling) - Part 2

What would you say is the #1 reason you struggle to reach their goals?
If you're like most Americans, it comes down to a lack of willpower.
Or does it?
In this review of The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal, we're talking about all things willpower: what it is, whether it's possible you really don't have any, and most importantly, how to train yourself to have MORE.
If you've found yourself in the frustrating cycle of "messing up", saying screw it to the whole day, and swearing to restart on Monday, you need this episode.
If you struggle with intense cravings, think about food all the time,  don't know how to manage your stress without turning to food,  you need this episode.
If you are influenced by the behavior of the people around you or are tired of making a little bit of progress and then self-sabotaging, you need this episode.

87. What is Body Recomposition? with RD Lauren Moss

Our favorite registered dietitian, Lauren, is here with us again.  In addition to being a part of the EA Coaching team, she is also a single mom to her son and works full-time in a clinical setting.

Body composition can seem pretty confusing when you’re starting out on your weight loss journey.

There are a lot of different metrics out there, but when it comes down to it, the goals and priorities that mean the most are based on regular, everyday things like wanting to feel comfortable in our clothes or being able to go shopping and not end up in tears in the dressing room. We want to make it to the end of the day, playing with our kids and not yelling at them because we're tired and achy and sore and irritable. We want to have the energy to get through our workday. We want to enjoy our lives.

If your goal, like most of us, is to look and feel good and move without pain and have energy, then that's not really riding on a specific number.

It’s also why we talk so much about non-scale victories.  Maybe you’ve experienced a period of time where you aren’t seeing results on the scale, but you know that your clothes fit better.

This is what body re-composition is all about. It means changing the ratio of lean mass to fat mass in your body.

In this episode, Lauren and I discuss the approach to weight loss that emphasizes the importance of not only losing fat, but also gaining muscle.

We also touch on how changes in your body composition look differently at different stages of your weight loss journey, non-scale methods of tracking your progress and common myths and misconceptions about body composition.
