Tech's Undeniable Role in the Global Economy with Paul McCarthy | S2 E9
Tech's Undeniable Role in the Global Economy with Paul McCarthy | S2 E9
“Pine Trees have these needles that they drop around them, so they stung all the competition beneath that pine tree. It means that when you’re a plant who’s trying to compete with that pine tree, there’s not much chance you’ll be able to grow in its circumference.”
The metaphor of the pine tree implies that the new rules of competition have changed not only in the tech space but also in the global economy. It is also undeniable that this difficulty is fueled by the democratically-elected monopolies that either give us business learning points and benefits or greatly dominate the industry – adding more tension to the competitive marketplace of tech.
Paul X. McCarthy tackles this state of market power and dominant companies that are taking over the power/control in the technology industry. He also tackles how research and computational data science can help understand human behavioral trends and the productivity and impact of individuals on businesses.
Paul is the CEO and Co-founder of the League of Scholars, a research leader, an author, and an adjunct professor at UNSW Australia
In this episode, we particularly talk about:
1:58 - 3:13 About Paul X. McCarthy
3:53 - 5:11 The Motivation of Paul to write the book “Online Gravity”

7:48 - 9:29 Dominant Players in Market Competition
9:52 - 11:40 The gravitational pattern in the business world is because of the Range of Network Effects – Increase in Returns, Familiarity of Users, etc.
11:41 - 13:03 Theory of Online Gravity: Small Domains gain the largest share of online attention, market power, and dominant companies
13:04 – 14:18 Good News: The benefit derived from Global Companies and Monopolies that are approved by the people

Outsourcing in the Construction Industry with Elinor Moshe | S1 EP 3
Outsourcing in the Construction Industry with Elinor Moshe | S1 EP 3
“One analogy that we can use at the end of time is having really strong foundations. There’s no point having an amazing, beautiful looking building that is going to crack at the next inconvenience. It’s the same in business building, it’s the same with getting the right support services, and the right teams under your roof.”
These are the words of our most recent guest Elinor Moshe, as she expounds how digital outsourcing overlaps and has similarities to the construction industry.
Elinor is an ambitious and driven thought leader, best-selling author, podcast host and businesswoman disrupting the construction industry. She’s the founder of The Construction Coach; Australia’s first construction coach and a podcast host of Constructing You. She ties her distinctive thinking, uncommon insights with over 8 years’ experience in the commercial construction industry, to generate transformative and exceptional results for her clients. Elinor has been featured in Yahoo! Finance, Australian National Construction Review and over 30 podcasts discussing her career and business acumen. She holds a Master of Construction Management and Bachelor of Environments from the University of Melbourne.
By tackling an industry that is less known to the outsourcing community, we can understand the need of outsourcing in any business even with something as physical as the construction industry. This also applies to our own processes and vision in realizing the importance of every stage in building a monument, career, or business at a certain sequence.
In this episode we talk about:
(0:57) About Elinor Moshe.
(2:28) How Elinor made her book.
(4:32) Everyone has a story to tell and experience that is of benefit to someone else.
(5:44) The leadership mentoring journey.
(7:35) Why the construction industry?
(10:07) Overlap between the construction industry, starting up, and building a business.
(12:11) The similarities of digital outsourcing industry and the construction industry.

(17:33) The digital services used in the construction industry
(19:21) How to choose partners
(20:41) Premise of referrals and referral relationships.
(24:11) Barriers to entry in Construction Industry, the first ‘yeses’ and early adopters.
