155. Stride by Stride – The Unbreakable Bond of a Father-Daughter Duo on the Marathon Course
Today, I want to share a story that recently touched my heart. It's about a father-daughter duo who have been running marathons together for 25 years. Nadia Ruiz and Jorge Ruiz. I found the Nadia Ruiz on Instagram after she posted a heartwarming video of her and her dad crossing the finish line in Boston, which totally moved me.
Their running relationship is something special, and I wanted to learn more about them. So, I reached out, and luckily, they agreed to come on the show.
We talked about how they got started, what keeps them motivated, their lows, including a cancer diagnosis that the father overcame, and just how the logistics of the two of them working together work.

153. 2023 Boston Marathon Race Review and Race Recap
This year's race marked the 10th anniversary of the tragic bombing that shook the marathon world in 2013. In honor of the anniversary, a ceremony was held on Saturday, where the families of the victims and survivors came together to lay wreaths at the memorial sites near the finish line.
The Boston Marathon is the oldest annual marathon in the world and one of the most prestigious races, known for its challenging course, enthusiastic spectators, and rich history. The marathon route is a point-to-point course, starting in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and finishing in Boston's Copley Square.
The Boston Marathon has seen many iconic moments in its history, including Kathrine Switzer becoming the first woman to officially run the race in 1967, and the tragedy of the bombing in 2013.
To commemorate the anniversary, the docuseries "American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing" was released. The three-part series details the tragic events of the 2013 marathon and the hunt for the Tsarnaev brothers.
The professional field for the 2023 Boston Marathon included many top runners, such as Eliud Kipchoge, the world record holder. With Kipchoge in the field, the men's race was one of the fastest in Boston Marathon history.
However, 2022 winner Evans Chebet surged ahead in the Newton hills to repeat as champion. Hellen Obiri, a late entry in the elite women's field and running only her second marathon, finished strong to win the women's race.
The men's and women's wheelchair races were also fiercely competitive, with Switzerland's Marcel Hug winning his sixth men's wheelchair crown and Manuela Schar of Switzerland finishing first in the women's wheelchair race.
Overall, the 2023 Boston Marathon was a thrilling event with many memorable moments. It showcased the resilience and determination of the running community and honored the victims and survivors of the 2013 tragedy.

119. Training within your limits - the later part of marathon training - when to push and when not to push
With your fall marathon approaching you have got a good 6-8 weeks of training left. You are nearing the end of your training, and there is no amount of food or rest you can get to make you feel whole. We get it. Training for a marathon is hard. Also, besides the lack of rest and seemingly off-balanced nutrition, there are things you feel. Soreness or injury? When do you keep pushing?
In this episode we speak with David Levine, head coach of the LA Roadrunners gives us some guidance on what to expect and what to do to complete your cycle.

We will also talk about what things to do and what things not to do to speed up our recovery.

How much slower than my fast pace? If you’re running a distance race, is it better to be fast at short distances and draw the speed out or have endurance under your belt and speed up your long runs? What should my weekly mileage be in my marathon cycle? What should my race pacing strategy be? How and why does speed work and strides help my pace? When in my marathon cycle should I start doing speed work?
What should my longest run really be and why don’t I have to run 26 miles? What are some tips better running economy? How long is a proper taper?

57. The hidden training program with author Bryan Green
In this episode spoke with Bryan Green, the author of Make the Leap - a sports psychology book for runners. Think better, train better. His book provides athletes and coaches a step-by-step guide to thinking more effectively about all aspects of training. We asked him about some of the main concepts, including how “the leap” works, the concept of “the hidden training plan”, as well as many definitions of words and concepts that - when applied to running - make us rethink how we should think.

52. The perfect running form with Brodie Sharpe
In this episode we asked Australian physiotherapist and host of the number 1 running podcast, Brodie Sharpe, about running form! Is there such a thing as the “perfect running form”? And although the answer was obvious (and let’s face it, the goal of our running form analysis is simply to prevent injury and to run economically so that we can run safely and fast) - as always with Brodie, we learned quite a bit. Listen in if you want to learn about the different phases of our running strides, what happens in each of them, and what things should be taken into consideration when looking at our running form, and what some definite must-correct things are we might do, and how to go about them.

51. Turning your miles into more (money) with Gene Gurkoff
One option is to sign up with achievements, where you can log miles. Once you reach 10,000 points, you can get yourself a gift card or donate your miles to charity. Very simple, and here is a link: tinyurl.com/yheruj5s That is something really rewarding.
And if you wanna do even more, you can do so. There’s a company that allows you to log your miles with them, automatically, and those miles will earn $ for a good case. So we decided to interview Gene Gurkoff. Gene Gurkoff is the Founder of Charity Miles, a free iPhone/Android app that enables people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike. He explains the history of the company as well as how all this works. Gene himself has run 35 marathons and 6 Ironman triathlons to raise money for Parkinson's research in honor of his grandfather who has the disease.
