Episode 112: Jeff and John from Tactical Kinetics to talk Barrel Manufacturing

If you haven't heard of Tactical Kinetics, I can just about guarantee you own one of their gun barrels already. They are the largest OEM barrel manufacturer you've probably never heard of. They are located in Knoxville, TN, and manufacture both pistol and rifle barrels.

I sit down with Jeff Kaplan, Sales Manager, and John McCracken, Plant Manager, in this episode to talk about how they started the business, what it took to go from making 200 barrels to hundreds of thousands of barrels, and what's next for them coming soon.

Check out https://tacticalkinetics.com to shop and learn more about their business. I'm sure they've got a barrel you've been meaning to buy, AND the best part about their pistol barrels is they are offered in non-threaded and threaded versions, so you can shoot suppressed!

Before listening to this episode of the Reticle Up Podcast, be sure to watch Part 1 and Part 2 of Build Box with Ursula, Adam, and me competing in the rifle-building TV Show.

On this exclusive Reticle Up Podcast, I sat down with the show creators and one of my judges and talked about how this show even came about. This episode will take you behind the scenes to give you a little idea of what goes into making a TV show like Build Box. After seeing applications open for the TV Show, I applied to be on the show. KJ was who reviewed my application, photos, and videos I submitted and invited me to be on the show! It was an unreal experience I'll never forget, and if you had told me even a year ago that I would be in a rifle-building contest TV show, I wouldn't have believed you. If you're interested in learning how to build your own ARs, check out DoubleStar Training Academy. They offer classes for law enforcement and civilians and are who taught me everything I know about building rifles, along with my fellow teammate on team DoubleStar, Scott Newnam. This entire experience is a testament that you can do whatever you set your mind to, and it doesn't matter what your background, age, gender, or anything else is.

Build Box is the ultimate competitive gun-building show. Each week, contestants will be challenged to compete with each other, the clock, and themselves, while winning over the judges in a pressure-packed environment. From subsonic adaptations and competition conversions to pistol perfection and modern hunting rifles, Build Box is the ultimate test in gun-build mastery.

You can catch Build Box on the Outdoor Channel, Wednesday 7:30 PM EST, Wednesday 10:30 PM EST, Thursday 4:30 AM EST, and Tuesday 3:30 PM EST.

Episode 73: Austin Cox, Disabled IDPA Competitive Shooter & Gamer, Firearms Instructor

Episode 73: Austin Cox, Disabled IDPA Competitive Shooter & Gamer, Firearms Instructor

I recently met Austin at the TN IDPA Championship match and had the pleasure of shooting on his squad. It took me a few stages in to notice Austin's burns and his disability with missing most of his left hand. You wouldn't know it by watching him shoot and he wouldn't tell you unless you asked.

Austin is one of the most humble and easy-going people I've ever met. He's had to re-learn how to shoot a gun again and how to play video games. He helps companies test out different products for disabled gamers to give them other opportunities to access their video game controls.

Austin talks about how competitive shooting is part of his physical therapy as he is still on his recovery journey from the burns on his body. He also gives back and is a firearms instructor teaching others how to shoot in his community.

Once again I'm in awe of resilient people who are out there making things happen without letting their disabilities limit their capabilities.

Episode 72: 2022 Gals Day at the Range Recap with RO's & Attendees

Episode 72: 2022 Gals Day at the Range Recap with RO's & Attendees

Gals Day at the Range is an event like no other where women of all ages can come out and learn how to shoot in a fun environment. This year's Gals Day was an action-packed event that included shooting pistols, rifles, and shotguns. We ran ladies through a Steel Challenge stage, a USPSA stage, and set them up to shoot shotgun clays and 100-yard rifle steel.

This event was only possible because of sponsors who donated ammunition, supplies, and everything we needed to have a fun time. Hunters HD Gold brought the Magical Mystery Tour van and set up at the event. DoubleStar brought rifles for the ladies to shoot outfitted with Timney Triggers, and also brought a full-auto rifle that many women shot for their first time.

All of the range officers who taught women how to shoot safely volunteered their time to be there. We all had a great time helping out and if you're interested in volunteering or attending, next year's event is on May 13, 2023, at Camp Davy Crockett in East, TN.

Every lady went home with a prize thanks to generous donations from sponsors that included ammunition, gift cards, hats, case gauges, patches, holsters, and more!

This event was sponsored by: Super Vel Ammunition, Hunters HD Gold, DoubleStar USA, Timney Triggers, Run and Gun Industries, UM Tactical, Steel Target Paint, RangeStore.net, EGW Inc., C&C AMMO, INC., Go Fast Don’t Suck, NotchGear, TRU-SPEC, Heckler & Koch, Widener’s, Camp Davy Crockett, Sequoyah Council, BSA, Reticle Up & 3 Gun Kenzie

Episode 67: Diego & Martin Reyna, Father & 9 Year Old Son Duo, Carry Optics Competitive Shooters

Episode 67: Diego & Martin Reyna, Father & 9 Year Old Son Duo, Carry Optics Competitive Shooters

Martin is a 9-year-old competitive shooter following in the footsteps of his father, Diego, who grew up shooting on his Olympic team in Guatemala.

Martin just recently switched to shooting USPSA, Carry Optics division. He started out in Steel Challenge, learned the fundamentals of shooting, firearm safety, and is now learning how to shoot on the move and draw from a holster.

I sit down with these two to talk about their experience in the shooting industry, moving from Guatemala, the sponsors that support them, and so much more!

Episode 66: David Power, President, Industry Choice Awards, Match Director, Volunteer & Shooter

David Power is one of the most involved people I've met in the industry. He is a Match Director, a board member for several Youth Shooting Organizations, a Volunteer for Shooting Sports, and of course, a competitive shooter himself! David has been working in the industry for years and has a pretty neat job helping bring products to market.

David and I sit down to share more information about what the Industry Choice Awards is all about, how it got started, and what the future looks like. We talk about what it's really like working in the gun industry, how someone interested in firearms can find work in the industry, and how much it has changed over the years.

Don't mind all the background noise I tried to edit out. We had a bunch of grown adults playing (not training) with a pistol simulation game.
