Mkhwebane, who held her tongue in confidence that her title was unassailable, once proclaimed - twice, in fact - that "only God can remove her from her powerful position." Now, her words have come back to haunt her, echoing in the abyss left by her removal from office.

When Mkhwebane first ascended the ranks to her eminent role as Public Protector, she was brimming with conviction. She was appointed for a term of seven years, a position imbued with the power to investigate cases of documented and probable government malfeasance.
