Inside the Hospital⎪COVID-19 in a New York City ICU (ft. Gargi Mehta, PA-C)

In this episode, Reesh chops it up with Gargi Mehta, who is a critical care physician assistant as well as Manager of the Medical ICU & Acute Medicine Advance Practice Providers at one of the largest hospitals in New York City. They talk about how COVID-19 patients wind up in the ICU, some common patterns being seen with younger patients infected with COVID-19, "the invisible 50" in the hospital that we don't hear about in the media, and how healthcare providers in the epicenter of this pandemic are dealing with the overwhelming nature of what they're experiencing on a daily basis.

To the healthcare professionals on the frontline that are probably either getting off of a shift or getting ready for their next, thank you for all that you do!

Hurt Locka: Junior Seau & CTE

Hurt Locka: Junior Seau & CTE

On May 2, 2012, NFL Hall of Fame Linebacker Junior Seau shot himself in the chest with a .357 magnum revolver at his home in Oceanside, CA. He was only 43. It’s thought that Junior deliberately shot himself in the chest so that his brain could be studied by scientists. Five specialists consulted by the NIH by the NFL ultimately diagnosed Seau with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the disease found in dozens of former players that died way too young. The fact that Junior Seau never had a diagnosed concussion in his 20 seasons playing professional football raised many questions for the NFL and scientists trying to study his brain. Dee & Reesh discuss the science behind the tragedy in this episode. ** This episode was edited and mixed by Reesh with original production from JMKM/Productive Culture. Shrink Rap: Doc Transformers & Empathy Robots in Disguise

This episode starts with Dee asking Reesh to recall an experience from Medical School of the first time he felt like he really helped a patient, but it had nothing to do with what he learned in Medical School. Continuing with this theme, Dee tells a story later in the episode about spending money out of his own pocket recently to treat a patient that couldn't afford a simple treatment for "Seasonal Affective Disorder." This leads to a discussion about how to improve Healthcare delivery through technology and how the Power of Audio might be a way to scale the unscalable. Finally, we end the episode talking about an email we recently got from a med student who was a former DJ and how we hope to recruit more Medical Artists to the Medicine ReMixed Crew.
