Mike and Betsy are joined by Ed Kirby, one of thousands of parents in the United States who has lost a child to an opioid overdose. For a while Ed had a difficult time finding support, and battled feelings of guilt and shame surrounding his son, Kyle's passing. Ed soon realized that speaking out and sharing Kyle's story would help him remedy those feelings, and help other parents find the support they need. On this episode, Ed shares his experience as a parent who has lost a child in the opioid epidemic, and shares the story of his son Kyle.

Mike and Betsy and joined by Dr. David Stone, a father, professor, mental health counselor, and a man of color decades into his recovery journey. We dive into the matter of race in addiction and sobriety, and David shares his own recovery story.

Zaidee and Loretta's families have been intertwined in what they once described as a "system" for 25+ years. In the beginning, their lives were enmeshed in alcoholism and dysfunction. Embracing the disease as a catalyst for change, their families are still side by side in recovery.
