TCH Vol. II, Ep. 64: Gender and Racial Swapping
On this episode we will be discussing whether gender and racial swapping of characters is a boon or a bane to the horror genre. Joining me in this discussion are Morbidly Beautiful Staff writers Richard Tanner and Tavera Del Toro as we discuss these changes in films such as The Dark Tower, the upcoming CW Network show The Lost Boys as well as the comments from the Soska Twins about gender swapping the character(s) of a potential remake of David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers.
We will also discuss how the majority of these changes are to white male characters, how gender/racial swapping hurt the sales of comics, how society would react if strong female roles from established films were changed out for male characters and if we are seeing more of this because it may appease certain groups or if these changes are being made because the actors/roles would actually make these films better. Sure to be a fascinating discussion! (Original Air Date: 3/19/19)

Murderabilia is a term identifying collectibles related to murders and murderers or other violent crimes (the term was coined by Andy Kahan, director of the Houston Police Department’s Crime Victims) and is a booming business.
We will discuss some on the names that are famous in this hobby that include Gacy, Dahmer, Bundy, Manson and more. Are these objects — including paintings, sculptures, letters, and autographs — art, or simply serial killer celebrity? Does the horror industry glamorize these killers to the point that it helps drive this industry? Sure to be a fascinating discussion! (Original Air Date: 3/5/19)

His most notable films include the "Gates of Hell" trilogy − City of the Living Dead (1980), The Beyond (1981) and The House by the Cemetery (1981) − as well as Massacre Time (1966), One on Top of the Other (1969), A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971), Don't Torture a Duckling (1972), White Fang (1973), Four of the Apocalypse (1975), Sette note in nero (1977), Zombi 2 (1979), Contraband (1980), The Black Cat (1981), The New York Ripper (1982), Murder Rock (1984) and A Cat in the Brain (1990). Because of the high level of visceral graphic violence present in many of his films, especially Zombi 2 and The Beyond, Fulci is frequently referred to as "The Godfather of Gore", a title also given to Herschell Gordon Lewis. Finally, we discuss the films he wasn’t allowed to show, his picks for the most criminally underrated horror films, what it’s like working with celebrity guests, and how technology has changed the game for him and all horror fans.
After the enormous success of his return to the drive-in this Summer — a 24-hour takeover of Shudder with Briggs’ hand-picked selection of some of the most beloved and / or infamous horror movies of all time — the legendary horror host and B-movie connoisseur is returning with a dusk ’til dawn marathon of four horror films this Thanksgiving. For our inaugural episode, we discuss the pros and cons of horror film remakes. Are they a necessary evil? We discuss the best and worst horror remakes, how poorly received remakes have impacted major franchises, and what we can expect for the future of these films.
In a year when two of the most highly anticipated horror films, Suspiria and Halloween, are remakes/reboots of beloved films, this discussion felt timely and necessary. Joining me for this discussion will be EIC of Morbidly Beautiful Stephanie Malone, Whitney Benson of the Hollow9ine Network and Daniel Schein of Flesh Wound Radio. (Original Air Date: 9/4/18)
The New York Times reported that Asia Argento — among the first and most outspoken women who accused film mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault — settled a sex assault complaint against her involving a minor last year. It’s a challenging moment for the movement that united women across the globe this past year and toppled dozens of high-profile figures amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
“A leader in the #MeToo movement having something like this in her background doesn’t look great for the #MeToo movement,” Kim Severson, the Times reporter behind the story, said from Atlanta.
While reporting on the death of American travel host and chef Anthony Bourdain, who had been dating Argento, Severson said she began hearing stories about the Italian actor and director. During her investigation, Severson said she anonymously received and verified several leaked legal documents pertaining to an alleged settlement between Argento, 42, and actor Jimmy Bennett, her former co-star in the 2004 film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, which she also co-wrote and directed.
Investigators in Los Angeles are seeking to talk to Bennett or his representatives about an incident alleged to have occurred at a Southern California hotel in 2013, when Bennett was 17, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Capt. Darren Harris said Monday. The age of consent in California is 18.”*

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 37: Video Nasties (Part 2)
On this episode we will be having a roundtable discussion on the history of the Video Nasties. Joining me for this discussion will be fellow Morbidly Beautiful writers Jamie Marino and Monster Dugan. (Original Air Date: 8/28/18)
Video nasty is a colloquial term in the United Kingdom to refer to a number of films distributed on video cassette that were criticized for their violent content by the press, social commentators and various religious organizations. The term was popularized by the National Viewers’ and Listeners’ Association (NVALA) in the UK in the early 1980s.
These video releases were not brought before the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), which could have censored or banned many of the films, due to a loophole in film classification laws, which states that videos did not need to be submitted to them at that time. As a result, this produced a glut of potentially censorable video releases, which led to public debate concerning the availability of these films to children due to the unregulated nature of the market.
Following a moral campaign led by Mary Whitehouse and the NVALA, local jurisdictions began to prosecute certain video releases for obscenity. To assist local authorities in identifying obscene films, the Director of Public Prosecutions released a list of 72 films the office believed to violate the Obscene Publications Act 1959. This list included films that had been acquitted of obscenity in certain jurisdictions or that had already obtained BBFC certification. The subsequent revisions to the list and confusion regarding what constituted obscene material led to Parliament passing the Video Recordings Act 1984, which forced all video releases to appear before the BBFC for certification.
The implementation of the Video Recording Act imposed a stricter code of censorship on videos than was required for cinema release. Several major studio productions were banned on video, as they fell within the scope of legislation designed to control the distribution of video nasties. In recent years, the stricter requirements have been relaxed, as numerous films once considered video nasties have obtained certification uncut or with minimal edits. Due to a legislative mistake discovered in August 2009, the Video Recordings Act 1984 was repealed and re-enacted without change by the Video Recordings Act 2010.
In our Digital Dismemberment Spotlight, we will be reviewing Sparrowhawk Pictures release of Ahockalypse!
We will also be featuring three bands in our Metal Massacre Spotlights, including the bands Paths of Possession, Abiotic and Book of Black Earth.

TCH Vol. II, Ep. 36: Video Nasties (Part 1)
On this episode, we will be having a roundtable discussion on the history of the Video Nasties. Joining me for this discussion will be Writer/Director/Actress/Producer Rebekah Herzberg, as well as fellow Morbidly Beautiful writers Jamie Marino and Monster Dugan. (Original Air Date: 8/21/18)

Early 2010, Dave decided to try his hand at writing. Since then, Dave has scripted and directed several projects, including MY UNDEADLY, which he also starred in and produced. This zombie horror film, starring Scream Queen Michelle Tomlinson, provided a fresh take on the zombie sub genre, winning 6 out of the 11 festivals it was showcased at. Seeing as how many genre films are being released to theaters with those ratings and then later being released to home markets as Unrated and Extended cuts, the question begs why we allow this. Are horror films unfairly targeted and then double dipped by studios to increase their own profits? Is the rating system skewed so that certain films, producers and directors given more leeway simply because they are more “artistic”? On to discuss this with me are Film Maker Michael S. Rodriguez, FX artist Bill Mulligan and fellow Morbidly Beautiful staff writer Jamie Marino. (Original Air Date: 4/17/18)
