Michael Fullan and I sit down for a conversation about hope and the opportunity to unite a nation through students and education.  We are at moment in history where the global pandemic, divisive political views, and glaring inequalities just might be disruptive enough to create an opportunity to finally (really) transform public education.  We discuss the path forward and provide a framework to unify and engage our communities by collaboratively building a Portrait of a Graduate (Learner), rooted in Deeper Learning and the six Cs: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Citizenship, and Character.

Learning needs to be student-centered and the entire educational system should to be oriented in such a way that students and teachers are liberated from the constraints that impede students from gaining the skills and dispositions to prepare them to solve the world's most difficult challenges.

Listen in as Dr. Daggett and I discuss an opportunity to finally bring our schools into the future and transform them into nimble systems.  Learning 2025 recommendations can lead to personalized and customized instruction and restore dignity and honor to teachers and the joys of learning when implemented system wide.

In this episode, Pam Gildersleeve Hernandez talks about the inspiration for #SisterCircle, a wonderful book study on ClubHouse featuring Adam Grant's Think Again and the power of being biliterate/bicultural as well the challenges of educational transformation.

Finally, we spend time discussing the power of creating culturally affirming schools/classrooms where we acknowledge difference as a strength and understand that collaboration and creativity are enhanced when different perspectives are honored such that they contribute to superior solutions. 

Ken Kay talks about his early days in Washington DC as an attorney and lobbyist.  Then, how he built early coalitions on internet use and worked with CEOs of tech company giants to democratize consumer technology use across the nation.  Hear how this work ultimately fueled his passion to begin thinking about technology use in schools and the shifts necessary in pedagogy to maximize the benefit for students.  Ken was the founding president of the Partnership for 21st Century Learning, the group that developed the 4C framework.  He later founded EdLeader21, a member network of superintendents, and helped guide the development of the Portrait of a Graduate.  Finally, Ken shares his gratitude list and his next adventure!

Jon and I spend time talking about the power of mindset shifts in educators and the impact that can have on their sense of contribution and wellbeing.  Moreover, the positive impact a mindset shift can have on pedagogy and increasing student engagement and outcomes.
