Cash & Joel discuss the life of a man who went by many names but was born Theodore Wilson, Jr. before a troubled childhood led him to be renamed James William Lewis by his adoptive parents. James Lewis grew up to be a lot of things; a husband, a father, a tax man, a scam artist, an extortionist, and a suspected murderer. Also in this episode, the boys have decided to partner with AI to bring you "Middle-Aged and Mediocre Theatre" featuring an argument about pants, a debate on who would win between Jason Voorhees and a squirrel, and detectives Cash and Joel investigating The Muppet Massacre. In 1848, gold was found in them thar hills of San Francisco! One of the largest mass migrations in American history shortly followed. Along with the increased population came a shortage of resources and a demand for eggs. While chicken eggs were almost impossible to supply to the new San Fran population, a bird known as the Murre produced a bountiful supply of eggs just 26 miles west on the Farallon Islands, aka “The Devil's Teeth Islands” and "The Islands of the Dead". As an alternative protein source, these eggs demanded a high price in San Francisco and lined the pockets of those who could transport them from the island with lots and lots of money. What ensued was capitalism at its finest; corporate greed, the decimation of nature, and war... oh, and egg pirates! Join us for a tale from American history and listen as you can almost hear Cash's eye begin to twitch as he does his best not to go into full-on rant mode. EVERYTHING'S FINE!

Jeffrey Lundgren had grown up in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (RLDS) but had been excommunicated for stealing funds from the Kirtland Temple and defrocked as a lay minister for teachings counter to the RLDS.  When he left, he took several church members with him and started his own offshoot branch of the church, leading his followers to believe he was receiving messages directly from God.  One of those messages would, unfortunately, lead to the murder of the Avery family, who were members of Lundgren's community themselves.  

Natalie Bollinger was a 19-year-old whose life tragically ended execution-style on the side of the road. All fingers pointed towards 42-year-old Shawn Schwartz as the trigger man. Natalie had known him for two years, told friends and family that she was terrified of him, and had been granted a restraining order because she feared that he was stalking her. Shawn relentlessly proclaimed his innocence on social media while also claiming that Natalie was evil and that her family should be in prison. Ultimately, it would come down to a Craigslist ad to unravel this mystery and shine a light on who had killed Natalie Bollinger. 

We've got three bizarre unsolved mysteries for you today including the death of British intelligence agent, Gareth Williams, who was found dead in a padlocked duffel bag with almost zero evidence left behind. Theories ranged from a BDSM game gone bad to Gareth being taken out by his own agency because he knew too much to the Russian KGB snuffing him out because he wouldn't turn double agent for them. In the end, Gareth's death remained unsolved and will likely remain that way unless all information is declassified and provided to authorities.  Also in this episode, a two-year-old girl goes missing in France only to be possibly discovered and reunited with her parents a short time later. Then a body was found matching the description of the little girl who went missing. So who was who and who did the severed adult-male head found nearby the body of the little girl belong to? This strange tale has remained a mystery since 1922 and will likely never be sorted out properly. Lastly, do you believe in reincarnation? The sudden, tragic death of two sisters led their family and others to believe in reincarnation when their mother gave birth to identical twins just a year later who not only displayed some eerily similar birthmarks to those of their deceased sisters but also seemed to have knowledge and memories that only their sisters would have.

It took us a while but we finally got around to talking about the original Triple H, H.H. Holmes!  This guy was a dastardly sonofabitch who used the World's Fair to draw both guests and victims into his custom-built "Murder Castle" that featured secret passages, various kill rooms, and everything else you would expect to see a mad scientist utilizing to kill off multiple characters in an old-school horror movie.  Holmes was said to have been a graverobber, an insurance fraudster, a snake oil salesman, and above all, a horrific murderer.  While he definitely was most or all of those things, separating fact from fiction is a big part of the H.H. Holmes story, as many allegations would be slung his way once he was arrested and executed for his crimes. In part one of our H.H. Holmes episodes, we look at his early life and the beginnings of his reign of terror that labeled him "America's First Serial Killer". Enjoy!

DEA Agent, Brady Wilson, tracks down the source of the abrupt rise in the sale of fentanyl and meth in his small hometown of St. George, Utah, which had a devastating impact on the community after overdose deaths were on becoming more and more frequent. It was a similar story in the rest of the United States, and Wilson, along with the rest of the DEA, were on the lookout for the main operators of the Mexico/America drug trafficking pipeline. Wilson himself found a man named Ángel Rubio Quintana at the center of the drug problem in St. George. It would turn out that Rubio wasn't just another cog in the drug cartel machine but rather a local businessman who had been using his connections to the Sinaloan cartel to begin building his own drug empire right in the middle of Mormon country. Cash and Joel also look at how the cartels in Mexico take advantage of locals who have no other source of income to churn out massive amounts of fentanyl and meth daily, and how the drugs make their way into America.  Also in this episode, an update on the Moscow, Idaho murders where a suspect has been taken into custody, and Cash has some significant doubts about the innocence of one person in particular that is involved in the story.

We start the episode off with two stories that would make great mystery/criminal mastermind/heist-style movies. We're thinking you bring in Rian Johnson and let him tell the story of Juan Carlos Guzmán, a young man who literally fell out of the sky and began a life of crime at 13 years old only to be caught years later by accident when he reached for the same apple that a Scotland Yard detective who had been hunting him down was reaching for in a supermarket. Our other story in the first half of this episode is all about the Eagle Diamond, which first surfaced in Eagle, Wisconsin way back in 1876, and saw its way through a con man ripping off miners searching for more diamonds in Wisconsin by selling them land at hiked-up prices, as well popping up years later when it was stolen by a gang of surfer thieves! We've basically got There Will Be Blood mixed with Point Break here and we'd love to see this story given the Netflix series treatment it deserves.  Those two stories are just appetizers for the main course because our last story is one of the craziest true crime stories we've ever featured on this podcast. There was a home invasion in Vallejo, California in 2015 that resulted in a kidnapping. A seemingly well-executed, well-prepared, professional kidnapping. What followed was a series of events that will have you guessing whodunnit the entire time and unless you already know the story, you're never going to guess the ending to this true crime story that goes from kidnapping to hoax to not a hoax and then back to a hoax but maybe not a hoax and okay yeah, definitely a hoax but we don't know who is hoaxing who and then oh damn, it wasn't a hoax after all but maybe it was and OH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING!?

A couple of episodes ago, we briefly looked at the case in Moscow, Idaho where 4 college students were murdered in their sleep on November 13, 2022. Benjamin Lay was an abolitionist, vegetarian, pacifist, gender-conscious, anti-capitalist, environmentalist Quaker, with dwarfism and a hunchback, and he was an all-around badass who refused to remain quiet about what he believed in. Oh, and he lived in a cave. Mostly, though, this story goes to show you that being "woke" isn't new. It's not a scary boogeyman like some Tucker Carlsons would have you believe. Most importantly, though, don't forget... he was a little guy. You won't forget though! Joel won't let you. In this episode, we also take a look at the current situation in Moscow, Idaho where four college students were apparently stabbed to death while asleep in their beds. We discuss the timeline of events that took place the night of the stabbings and all of the aftermath so far.

In Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, a horrific home invasion in the early morning hours of October 4, 2009, four teens who called themselves the "Disciples of Destruction" invade the home of 42-year-old Kimberly Cates and her 11-year-old daughter, Jamie Cates.  The bloodbath that ensued was horrific and the aftermath proved just how depraved 19-year-old Christopher Gribble and 17-year-old Steven Spader truly were.  Accompanied by 17-year-old Quinn Glover and 18-year-old William Marks, the two teenage boys finally got to carry out their deadly obsession with committing murder and mayhem.  Also in this episode, we talk about a woman who blinded herself because she always felt that she was meant to be blind, another woman who crafted a husband & son out of yarn only for the husband to cheat on her, our inner monologues, and what has been going on with us since our last episode.  

In this episode, we cover five truly strange true crime stories filled with twists & turns that would make for great television plots (some even have already!).  We have a man found dead in a hotel room with a small hole in his scrotum and internal injuries but no evidence that anything caused him to end up that way.  A man is found dead in the desert from an apparent mob-style assassination but nothing suggests that a murder took place at all.  The mother of a young girl with a laundry list of ailments is found stabbed to death in her home and when the truth is revealed, the community and the country are shocked.  Two men named Richard both go missing in Alaska roughly around the same time and the weirdest body-switch movie from the 80s occurs.  Finally, a man is murdered in his home by another man who was unknowingly living in the same mansion.

Three suitcases were found floating near the islands of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnels between May 5, 2004, and May 16, 2004.  After investigators released a composite sketch of the victim, he was identified as Bill McGuire, a Navy veteran and computer programmer who had two young sons with his wife, Melanie, who would quickly become the prime suspect. Every piece of evidence found during the investigation seemed to implicate Melanie in the murder and dismemberment of her husband but investigators couldn't find much of a motive and didn't have anything that went beyond circumstantial. Melanie had an answer for investigators every time they brought new evidence to light but would her answers be enough to keep her from being found guilty? 

Lance Henriksen stars as Ed Harley in this 1988 horror classic that warns of the dangers of letting hate and revenge consume you. When Ed's son is fatally injured in an accident involving a group of friends out on a camping trip, Ed turns to an old witch named Haggis to bring his son back to life. Haggis can't give Ed his son back but she can unleash a creature known as Pumpkinhead to get vengeance for Ed. She warns Ed that vengeance comes with a terrible price but blinded by rage, Ed allows her to unleash the demonic creature on the friends who have all been marked to be hunted and slaughtered. Will Ed have his revenge or will it cost him more than he can afford?

Chandler Halderson worked extremely hard not to have a job. He built a world of lies that came crumbling down around him, and instead of just owning up to his lies, Chandler decided to double down on his bad decisions by committing a double homicide. Continuing the trend of losers committing murder, we discuss the Children of Thunder cult... which had a member count of... 3. Brothers Glenn and Justin Helzer had found themselves excommunicated from the church of LDS and Glenn had his sights set on world domination. Fortunately for the world, the Children of Thunder were very bad at figuring out how to devise a plan to take over the world. One of their plans included orphan assassins but when that didn't work out, they became murderers themselves. Clearly, they were just as bad at covering their tracks as they were at planning their takeover of the world, or else we wouldn't be talking about them in this episode.  We also discuss fighting a grizzly bear and Cash is the dumbest man alive. We know, we know... Michael Myers isn't in the movie! This was the type of movie that John Carpenter originally envisioned the Halloween franchise producing. He wanted Halloween to be an anthology series that would tell a different story that took place during the spookiest season of the year but after the success of the first Halloween movie, the studio's eyes were replaced with dollar signs and they demanded more Michael. Carpenter gave in and killed off Michael and Dr. Loomis at the end of Halloween 2 so he could move on in the direction he intended the franchise to go in. The result was HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH... and people did not like it. People wanted to see the same old thing over and over again, so the film was a box office bomb. It has since become a cult classic of sorts and it has established a very large fanbase. Is the movie any good though?  We gave it a watch and we'll let you know what this movie's deal is.  Eight more days 'til Halloween... Halloween... Halloween... Eight more days 'til Halloween... The final movie in David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN trilogy has arrived and we have some thoughts.  Are we glad this trilogy has ended or did it leave us wanting more?  Check out the review to find out!

We review the slasher/home invasion flick called YOU'RE NEXT, released in 2013, from Adam Wingard featuring Sharni Vinson, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Ti West, Barbara Crampton, and Amy Seimetz.  "In an attempt to mend their broken family ties, Aubrey and Paul Davison decide to celebrate their wedding anniversary by inviting family members to their weekend estate. The celebration gets off to a rocky start when mysterious assailants wearing animal masks suddenly attack the house."

It's 4 AM in Bryant, Arkansas in 1987 as a 6,000-ton cargo train is making its nightly route from Texarkana to Little Rock when the engineer notices two immobile figures lying parallel across the tracks, covered from the waist down with a light green tarp, and with their arms straight down by their sides. The engineer immediately lays down the horn and places the train into a frantic emergency stop. Less than five seconds later, with no reaction or movement by either of the boys on the tracks, the train makes an impact with the two bodies, carrying them for a half-mile before the train comes to a complete stop. The mangled bodies are identified as 16-year-old Don Henry and 17-year-old Kevin Ives. After the bodies have been identified, the case becomes a mystery that is filled with corruption, drug trafficking, a mountain of suspicious deaths, and cover-up after cover-up. Cash and Joel take you through the details of this case and all of the characters involved including a sheriff who will only do his job if you don't criticize him, an ex-WWF wrestler who worked as security for drug traffickers, and a medical examiner who says a man missing his head died of an ulcer and that his head was missing because his dog ate it... and when the head is found several blocks away in the dumpster, he simply suggests that the dog regurgitated the head. Yeah... it's that kind of story.

Cash and Joel review the 2022 film, PEARL, and then review the reviews of PEARL. Tons of SPOILERS so be warned!  After the review, the guys talk about a tragedy from the 1800s that was caused by a clown being pulled downriver by four geese. If that sentence made no sense to you, you aren't alone! Check out the episode to hear what the hell it means. Then stick around for a story about a man who murdered and ate another man... a man named Kevin Bacon. Finally, Joel gets uncomfortable as Cash asks about his dating life.

Fights, stabbings, sexual assaults, shots fired — all at 312 Riverside Drive. Thousands of 911 calls going back more than two years flood, reporting major crimes occurring at this address — without question, the most dangerous address in New York City.  Police officers race to the tree-lined block of the Upper West Side, between West 103rd and 104th Streets, again and again with firefighters and paramedics meeting them there to respond to the overwhelming amount of emergencies. But the responses all ended the same way: The emergency vehicles turned and left, their sirens off. The police, over time, stopped responding to the calls at all. Because there is no 312 Riverside Drive. Cash and Joel explore the sad mystery behind this nonexistent address that gets so many calls made to it because of horrific crimes reportedly occurring there.  We also review the new horror movie from Zach Cregger, BARBARIAN, and if you haven't watched the movie yet, DO NOT listen to this part of the episode unless you want the movie ruined for you. BARBARIAN is best viewed knowing as little about it as possible. So go watch it and then come back and check out our review!

In this episode, we review the 2018 horror/comedy, "Blood Fest", available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Fans flock to a festival celebrating the most iconic horror movies, only to discover that the charismatic showman behind the event has a diabolical agenda. As festival attendees start dying, three teenagers -- more schooled in horror-film cliches than practical knowledge about neutralizing psycho killers -- must band together and battle through various madmen and monstrosities to survive. It's jam-packed with horror references and filled with gore but is it any good? Gonna have to listen to find out what we thought! 

In this episode, we review the 2019 horror film, "1BR", and then banter for a while about Vince McMahon retiring from the WWE amidst sexual misconduct allegations, how NOT to interact with professional wrestlers, Ric Flair's last match (Cash thinks Flair is overrated), and bar fights.  It's one of our longest episodes but it's a good one that you can divide into two parts if you want with the movie review being part 1 and then the wrestling/bar fight talk being part 2.

This episode reviews the 2019 horror film, "Satanic Panic", starring Hayley Griffith, Ruby Modine, Jerry O'Connell, and Rebecca Romijn. We didn't know what to expect going into this one but we were pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it was. From IMDB: "A pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope has to fight for her life - and her tips - when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice." It's a wild ride and fun as hell with a lot of gore and unexpected moments. Hayley Griffith and Ruby Modine turn in great performances as the two young leads. Rebecca Romijn is wickedly evil in her role as the cult leader attempting to summon the demon Baphomet via the womb of a virgin. After we review the movie, we banter for a while about what we have been watching, including "Breaking Bad", "Better Call Saul", and the new Apple TV+ limited series, "Black Bird". Joel has a new hat that he is really excited about, Wendy's girl has gone emo and we're here for it, Chick-Fil-A wants to hire you to work for chicken sandwiches, and Earth is spinning faster so we're losing time! 

We review the new Shudder Original "Revealer" about a stripper and a religious protestor coming together to survive the apocalypse in 1980s Chicago while trapped inside a peep show booth and the network of tunnels beneath it.  It's a small-budget film that puts a lot on the shoulders of its two main stars and the chemistry between them.  Does it work?  Check out our new episode to find out what we thought! After the review, stick around to hear about a Florida man who stole R2-D2, an Australian teen who knows way more US Presidents than both Cash and Joel combined, and a woman who won $10 million dollars via a minor inconvenience that apparently not even millions of dollars could excuse!

We review an absolutely dreadful "movie" from 2019 called SEAGULL that absolutely stinks out loud. It is such an awful movie that it led to us recording our worst podcast episode ever. On top of the terrible movie, we talk about the car trouble we had while out on a road trip, there's a mid-episode adventure involving a giant spider, and we use some conversation starter cards from Goodwill to have absolutely dreadful conversations.   Enjoy?

We sat down to talk about two of the most currently talked-about horror movies amongst the horror community, Dashcam and X, which are complete opposites. Dashcam is a found-footage style film that takes place in modern times with COVID at the center of the plot, with X set in 1979 and looking like it was filmed alongside the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Both movies are gore-filled and have plenty of terrifying moments but are they both worth watching? Make sure you check out this episode to find out what we thought of each movie. The reviews are filled with spoilers so keep that in mind before listening.  We are pretty split on one of the movies, with one of us really liking how it uses its main character and the other one reviewing it by saying, "there was a lot of running and spinning."  There's also a little bonus review thrown in at the end as we give a quick review of the 1992 film, Trespass, starring Ice T, Ice Cube, William Sadler, Bill Paxton, and Zeus!  Enjoy the reviews and let us know what you thought!

We have a few stories for you during this episode. We talk about an unexplained event from 1518 where hundreds of ordinary people began dancing uncontrollably for a month, leading to hundreds of them dying from starvation and exhaustion. We've got an incredible tale about a con man who traveled the world pulling off cons and living a life that seems destined to become a movie one day.  Speaking of movies, we come up with a number of movie premises that will surely be bought by Netflix any day now. And STILL speaking of movies, we take a look at some real-life "Final Destination" style deaths that are unimaginably awful. Allllllll the way back in our first episode, while talking about the Hinterkaifeck Murders (go back and listen now), we mentioned that a few years prior to that massacre, a similar horrific crime scene was found in Villisca, Iowa. We also mentioned that we might cover that story at some point. Well, some point has arrived, and with it, our investigation into the Villisca Axe Murders. The Villisca axe murders occurred between the evening of June 9, 1912, and the early morning of June 10, 1912, in the town of Villisca, Iowa, United States. The six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned in the Moore residence. Much like the Hinterkaifeck Murders, the scene led investigators to believe that the murderer had hung around the crime scene for a while, using the home as their own. Also on this episode... We have two stories coming at you this episode and they have their fair share of mystery.  In our first story, we talk about the disappearance of 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa whose erratic behavior will lead you confused and clueless just as it has left Bryce's parents, friends, and investigators since August of 2013.  For seemingly no reason, Bryce leaves his college town and heads towards his parents' home miles away but never makes it home.  There has been no trace of him since that night.  It truly sounds like something you would see on an episode of "The Twilight Zone" but on that show, you would at least get some explanation as to what happened.  With this story, over 8 years later, all we are left with is questions. Marcel André Henri Félix Petiot was born on Jan. 17, 1897, in the town of Auxerre.  As a young man he impaled insects on their knitting needles; he imprisoned tiny birds and did not feed them so that he could watch them die of starvation, though, some days he did let a bird go free but not before he had stuck pins into its eyes to blind it; he attempted to drown his cat in boiling water... and he had black eyes, which really should have been a warning sign. His legitimacy as a physician is still a question to this day but there is no doubt that he murdered dozens, if not hundreds, of people under the guise of helping them escape Occupied France during World War II.  This is the story of a depraved human being who used people's fear and hope to prey upon them and rob them of their lives and their valuables. Urban Legends... The man with the hook hand who preys on young couples parked at a makeout spot. A babysitter that keeps receiving threatening phone calls only to discover that the call is coming from inside the home! The woman driving home at night that’s followed by someone flashing their lights at her and terrifying her as she drives only to discover that they were trying to warn her of the killer in her backseat! There are of course the classics like looking in a mirror with the lights out while you repeat “Bloody Mary” over and over and the girl who gets bitten on the cheek by a spider only for the bite to swell and bulge until it bursts open hatching hundreds of baby spiders. Urban legends are still being created to this day; with The Slender Man being one of the more famous examples in recent memory.  While some of these or none of these may have their roots in any kind of truth, one urban legend has persisted for almost 50 years due to the actions of a killer on Halloween night. There's a reason why parents are reminded every year to check their children's candy hauls for a razor blade or poison. That reason took place in 1974 on Trick-or-Treat night in Pasadena, Texas. This is the true story of that yearly reminder that comes around every Halloween. This is the story of an 8-year-old boy being poisoned and murdered by a Pixy Stik laced with cyanide that he got while trick-or-treating. 

Season 2 Episode 3--- This one is out of control right from the start. We have a story that seemed creepy and perfect for this time of year the first time Cash read it but as you'll find out while listening to this episode, it mostly just makes for an entertaining story that is perfect to mock for its absurdity. With that being said, credit for this story goes to Marisa Kwiatkowski at the IndyStar. Hope you enjoy!  A woman and three children who claimed to be possessed by demons. A 9-year-old boy walking backward up a wall in the presence of a family case manager and hospital nurse. Gary police Capt. Charles Austin said it was the strangest story he had ever heard. Austin, a 36-year veteran of the Gary Police Department, said he initially thought Indianapolis resident Latoya Ammons and her family concocted an elaborate tale as a way to make money. But after several visits to their home and interviews with witnesses, Austin said simply, "I am a believer." Not everyone involved with the family was inclined to believe its incredible story. And many readers will find Ammons' supernatural claims impossible to accept. But, whatever the cause of the creepy occurrences that befell the family — whether they were seized by a systematic delusion or demonic possession — it led to one of the most unusual cases ever handled by the Department of Child Services. Many of the events are detailed in nearly 800 pages of official records obtained by The Indianapolis Star and recounted in more than a dozen interviews with police, DCS personnel, psychologists, family members and a Catholic priest. Ammons, who swears by her story, has been unusually open. While she spoke on condition her children not be interviewed or named, she signed releases letting The Star review medical, psychological and official records that are not open to the public — and not always flattering. Furthermore, the family's story is made only more bizarre because it involves a DCS intervention, a string of psychological evaluations, a police investigation and, ultimately, a series of exorcisms.

We have been wanting to do this for a while and we finally got it done! This is our first episode in a new series called "Reel Crimes" where we will be presenting reviews of various films as true crime stories. We had fun with this one and we will be doing some more of these in the future so let us know what you thought.  In 1958 at Camp Crystal Lake, counselors Barry Jackson and Claudette Hayes were found murdered inside a storage cabin. Twenty-one years later, Steve Christy (not the Buffalo Bills kicker, fortunately) spends $25,000 on his family's camp with plans to refurbish the cabins and facilities. From there, a brutal series of murders takes place leaving only one survivor/witness that recounted the horrific events of Friday, June 13th, 1979 to the local police officers who pulled her from the lake before she could drown.

We are back with Season 2 and we are starting things off with a gut-punch of a story!  The Children of God was formed in 1968 in Orange Beach, California under the guidance of David Brandt Berg and began as a band of hippies who would proselytize in the streets, and distribute literature. In 1969, after having a revelation "that California would be hit by a major earthquake", he left Huntington Beach and "took his followers on the road". Over time, David Berg would grow more authoritative and after making a young woman named Karen Zerby his second wife, he began to take the group in a dark and sexually depraved direction. Ricky Rodriguez would be the first son of Karen Zerby and hailed as the prince of Berg's sex cult. Still operating today as The Family International, this cult remains firm in their stance that they are a victim of persecution and while they recognize some aspects of their murky past, they ultimately still operate with enough skeletons in their closet to fill most of their communes. A well-liked, quiet, shy 18-year old disappears on the night of January 2, 2000 in North Carolina. Every lead just raises more questions about what happened to him that night. Motives are unclear. Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who claimed they were abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of the state of New Hampshire from September 19 to 20, 1961. Bill Goldberg... yes, that Bill Goldberg... dons his slay apparel and spreads murder and mayhem for... reasons?  With the hustle and/or bustle of the holidays, we decided to do a quick movie review episode for you all and announce a giveaway contest that we will doing in January. A mother and her two daughters are found dead in their home on Christmas Day in 2002. It doesn’t take police long to connect some dots and arrest someone very close to the victims for their murders. In this 2010 made-for-TV SyFy channel movie we find out what would happen if the Mothman was in "I Know What You Did Last Summer"... and we regret ever acquiring such cursed knowledge! This one was hard to get through but we survived this CGI nightmare and we are still around to tell you all about it! Honestly, all criticism side, this movie does take all of the Mothman lore, throws it in a blender, and attempts to create a new twist on the legend. Does it pull it off? Not exactly. Still, it's a decent enough offering and it seems like the writer at least scratched beneath the surface of the story of the Mothman. In the late 1960s, reports of sightings of a giant, winged creature with a 10-foot wingspan and huge, globe-like red eyes started pouring in by the dozens in the small West Virginia town of Point Pleasant. Within a year, sighting reports numbered in the hundreds, and just a little over a year after the first sighting tragedy struck the small town when the Silver Bridge collapsed, resulting in the death of 46 people. Theories quickly sprung up concerning the Mothman's role in the Silver Bridge collapse. Was the creature a messenger who was attempting to warn the town of their impending tragedy or was the winged monster responsible for it? Over the years, theories and questions have continued to create an interest in Point Pleasant's hometown cryptid, allowing them to become a tourist attraction where fans of all things weird and unusual can take a walk through the Mothman Museum and visit the iconic statue of the red-eyed cryptid himself.  Cash and Joel cover the history of the Mothman and the small town of Point Pleasant, including the "Curse of Cornstalk", the TNT area where the military operated a secret facility that left the ground there contaminated with toxic waste, the mysterious Men in Black, and how the legend of the Mothman has persisted in pop culture. Cash and Joel review Netflix's SMASH HIT of 2020... "Welcome to Sudden Death", starring Michael Jai White and Gary Owen. IMDB says it is a sequel to the 1995 classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but it feels like more of a reimagining than a sequel. Either way, it's a pretty ridiculous action flick that the boys recommend watching with a few adult beverages. For the first time, Cash and Joel tackle a story about a very modern unsolved crime.  This story takes place in the small town of Canadian, Texas and starts on the night of November 23, 2016 when 18-year old Thomas Brown misses his midnight curfew. What takes places in the hours, days, weeks, months, years after his mother's initial call to the Hemphill County Sheriff's Office is sad, tragic, suspicious, and infuriating. The investigation into Tom's disappearance immediately raises question but as the story unfolds, the questions just pile up. This case is upsetting for a few reasons, and that's why the Middle-Aged and Mediocre boys are covering it. Even though the show typically sticks to crimes that took place many years ago, this story bothered Cash enough that he felt like discussing it on this platform. Cash is being haunted! Maybe. Possibly. Probably not. But maybe!  The guys talk about past experiences with possible paranormal activity and then get into the story of America's First Ghost, Nelly Butler. This one goes all the way back to the year 1800 in the state of Maine. A recently-deceased woman's ghost appears to a family and is apparently on a mission from God. What's the mission, you ask? Well, to get her 29-year-old widowed husband and the family's 15-year-old daughter married, of course! Seems pretty obvious this is all a scam from the husband, right? Maybe the daughter? Well, this ghost story comes with a lot of witness testimony and will have you wondering what exactly is going on as Cash and Joel dig deeper and deeper into the events.

Cash and Joel take a look at a couple of ghost stories from West Virginia. In Greenbrier County, the murder of Elva Zona Heaster leads to the only known case in which testimony from a ghost helped convict a murderer, and in Middleway, West Virginia, the death of a stranger brings forth a spirit with a rather strange trademark. 

Circleville, Ohio. 1976.  Circleville is a small town. One of those small towns where everyone knows each other and everyone likely knows each others business. It would have especially been this way in the 70s and 80s. Back then, it was likely one of those small towns where doors were left unlocked during the night and newcomers settled in there to get away from madness found in bigger cities. Circleville was a quiet, idyllic town… Until it wasn’t. In the late 70s, residents of Circleville, Ohio began receiving anonymous letters postmarked from Columbus with no return address. Letters were seemingly being sent to everyone in town, detailing personal information about the recipient and claims that they were being watched. Scandalous accusations were being made by the unknown writer. In many cases, the letters threatened harm, either physical or through the destruction of careers and personal lives. Some contained graphic drawings and most concerning for the recipients, many of the accusations in the letters were true. In total, thousands of people had been or were in the firing line to be contacted by the unknown writer. But out of everyone in the town targeted by the letters, one person in particular seemed to be the main focus of the anonymous sender. Join us for a story of mystery, scandal, and death!

Cash and Joel take a look at the mystery surrounding two men found dead on a hilltop in Brazil with a note containing strange directions and lead masks lying beside their bodies. They were known as "Scientific Spiritualists" who had reportedly been making attempts to speak with "beings from Mars." Was this one of those attempts gone horribly wrong? Or was it a success and had the two men truly ascended to a new plane of existence and left their Earthly bodies behind? Or was it murder? And what about another man found dead in the same vicinity on a different hilltop with a lead mask nearby only a couple of years prior to the deaths of Miguel and Manuel? Today we’re talking about the Taiwanese UFO cult formed by Hon-Ming Chen in 1995. This New Religious Movement was a mix of Buddhism, Taoism, and UFOlogy. It emphasized transmigration of souls and placed great emphasis on spiritual energy. Adherents also believed in "outside souls," who basically acted as bad influences, or even as demons, in the human world.  This is a fun episode without any murder involved. However, there is discussion of God flying through space in a UFO and Abraham Lincoln hiding out in Canada as Christ reincarnated. Can't get more fun than that!

The Cleveland Torso Murderer (also known as the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run) was an unidentified serial killer who was active in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1930s. The killings were characterized by the dismemberment of twelve known victims and the disposal of their remains in the impoverished neighborhood of Kingsbury Run. Despite an investigation of the murders, which at one time was led by famed lawman Eliot Ness, then Cleveland's Public Safety Director, the murderer was never apprehended. Also in this episode, Joel is too damn high for Cash's weird brain-trash and Joel asks Cash some "Would You Rathers?" that are not easy to answer. In 1943, four boys were poaching in Hagley Wood when one decided to climb up an elm tree that had a hollowed-out trunk. What he'd find inside the tree trunk would kick off the start of an investigation that included theories ranging from a very bad case of the Wrong Place, Wrong Times to a possible black magic execution.  The murder presents an eerie question that is still painted on walls to this day; "WHO PUT BELLA IN THE WITCH ELM"
