The Conversation, Cannabis & Christianity podcast

The Conversation, Cannabis & Christianity podcast

By Miguel Torrez

Helping the cannabis user understand Christ, and the Christian understand cannabis. The Christian scriptures record Jesus telling a crowd of religious hypocrites that it is not what one puts into their body that defiles them, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them. If a young child suffering from disease or injury, and the unwanted side effects of prescription drugs, can clinically and experientially benefit from using a form of cannabis, then how is it that cannabis became synonymous with cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine? Come with us as we explore cannabis, creation & Christ.

S2 E33: Florida's Leading Cannabis Physician, Dr. Joseph Rosado

S2 E33: Florida's Leading Cannabis Physician, Dr. Joseph Rosado

Dr. Joseph Rosado, MD is one of the world’s most respected medical authorities on cannabis as plant-based medicine. With over four decades of experience as a healthcare professional, he has built a career anchored in family tradition and driven by a desire to help his patients and community. Dr. Rosado's father was an x-ray technician before his untimely death in 1973. Losing his father spurred Dr. Rosado to start working at a young age to help support his family. He trained as a certified nurse’s assistant, then known as an orderly, and began working in the medical field in 1978 at age 16. After high school, Dr. Rosado trained as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, and catheterization laboratory technician while working his way through college.

A major car accident led Dr. Rosado to the field of chiropractic. After a chiropractor alleviated his agonizing back pain in just a few weeks of care, Dr. Rosado decided to explore the complementary medicine system. As a chiropractor, Dr. Rosado dedicated his practice to helping underserved communities, particularly those for whom English was a second language, ensuring that each patient received the highest quality of care that he could provide. At the age of 35, Dr. Rosado entered medical school and was a top student while working his way through school as a husband and father. In medical school, he studied marijuana and determined that potential health and wellness benefits could be extracted from the plant.

As a student and newly certified physician, Dr. Rosado worked throughout the Latin American Diaspora, setting up a clinic in Costa Rica, serving as a team doctor for the country’s Olympic teams. In 2014, Dr. Rosado added his considerable professional expertise to the frontlines of Florida’s push for medical marijuana. One of the state’s first doctors advocating for medical cannabis, in 2016, Dr. Rosado also had the distinction of being the first Central Florida physician to recommend medical marijuana for an adult patient, as well as the first to recommend it for a patient under the age of 18. As a clinician he has worked with thousands of patients, from toddlers to the elderly, recommending medical cannabis and managing treatment.

Al founded and hosts the People Advocating Cannabis Education (PACE) Radio Show in 2013 and the PACE Radio Network in 2019. S2 E23: Forgiveness

"Wisdom has built Her house, She has hewn out Her seven pillars; She has prepared her food, She has mixed Her wine; She has also set Her table; She has sent out Her maidens, she calls from the tops of the heights of the city: "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!" To him who lacks understanding She says, "Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding." Proverbs 9:1-6

Trust and faith, faith and trust. Would you trust a boss who is constantly holding a hammer over your head? Too often faith is not taught correctly from the pulpit, and this has resulted in a Santa Claus stigma around Jesus and His creation (people and marijuana). S1 E7: Former CHANEL Education Executive for North America, Thuy Diep

Thuy Diep started on the sales floor of a beauty company and at the time of this recording in 2021 she was an Education Executive for CHANEL Beauty North America. For Thuy, beauty has always been something deeper than the surface appearance of a person. At the same time, she has witnessed an internal change in women when they see their appearance after an artist applies quality make-up, and the change has been profound. Thuy used cannabis because it helped her connect with customers on the sales floor, and her sales were consistently at or near the top. She spent part of her early childhood attending church at a Christian denomination but has not associated with organized religion since. She believes a higher power exists and she has an inescapable internal motivation to help people. A beautiful woman, an executive in the beauty industry and she believes there is deeper value in people than the external.

For over four decades Richard Rose has been a leading innovator in the national and international natural food industry with products such as TofuRella, Cottage Tofu Salad and LeTofu. In 1994, Richard pivoted from soybean to hempseed, an older and far more nutritious protein source. He was the first food professional in hemp foods in North America, and he paved the way for those he inspired.

By 2002 when the U.S. market for hempseed collapsed for years due to an ill-advised suit by a fiber group against the DEA for legalizing 98% of all hemp products, Richard retired to Amsterdam for a spell and returned to Colorado where he currently resides. How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. - Psalm 139: 1-18

S2 E45: Legacy Cannabis Breeder, Testing/Quality Expert & Co-Founder of Crater Enterprises, Trent Hancock

Trent Hancock is the head breeder for Creswell Oreganics and an owner in Crater Enterprises. In 1998 he started indoor growing in Portland’s legendary cannabis community and went on to build his first commercial grow in Montana in 2008. Trent spent the next eight years in Montana consulting the largest indoor cannabis facilities in the country at the time, prior to Colorado 2014. Realizing that large scale commercial grows had bug and mold problems that were nearly impossible to control without spraying flowering plants, he started developing a controlled air system that prevented the need for spraying.

In 2014, Trent teamed up with Shayney Norick and her medical cannabis company in Montana. Gaining the space and ability to refine his air system, he utilized his Navy Seabee dad's low voltage electronics experience to build his first control panel. This was the first control panel ever built that brings in high volumes of fresh air while running high altitude temperature algorithms.

After decades of knowledge and experience in the legacy and medical marijuana arenas, he is a testing and quality expert.

S2 E33: Florida's Leading Cannabis Physician, Dr. Joseph Rosado

Dr Joseph Rosado, MD is one of the world’s most respected medical authorities on cannabis as plant-based medicine.

Yet, the reason most people know him is his advocacy work as a founder of the Florida Suncoast Chapter for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).

S2 E17: Communion

S2 E17: Communion

The bread and wine of communion are first mentioned in the biblical book Genesis as Abram returns with the King of Sodom from defeating invading nations and rescuing Abram's nephew Lot and his family. As Abram is returning to his land, Melchizedek king of Salem presents Abram with bread and wine and says to him, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." It was a one-to-one interaction. There was no requirement for a third "qualified" human to anoint, bless or make right the bread and wine. Jesus reinforced this personal relationship in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. John records another story of how Jesus presented communion to those who were following Him. Communion is a gift.

S2 E10: The CBD Chef Mary, Mary Adams

S2 E10: The CBD Chef Mary, Mary Adams

Mary followed her first culinary recipe when she was eight years old, the recipe was brought to her by her childhood friend next door. That was the same year she got her first Betty Crocker yellow and white striped Kids Cook Book, and her love of everything food was born. Throughout her childhood Mary's mom, aunts, relatives and friends shared their stories of family around a table of food they prepared.  Before graduating high school she toyed with the idea of culinary school but there were very few female chefs at that time and the school she knew about was in Paris, and Mary did not speak French.  So she majored in History and earned a Master’s degree, teaching for more than 10 years.

No matter where life seemed to take her, Mary was always drawn back to food and eventually owned a wholesale bakery taking care of mom and pop sandwich shops in local office buildings, which led to her finally going to culinary school, a little later in life than most of her fellow students, but she was loving the thrill of new recipes and methodology. Becoming a certified Pastry Chef was a life-long dream fulfilled and the chance to work in some of the finest kitchens and with world class chefs. As a cannabis consumer, adding cannabis to food was a natural process for Mary and she says she has cooked with cannabis, "...since before decarb-ing was a thing..." adding raw cannabis to pots of spaghetti sauce and meatloaf. Only later did she discover the true way to infuse food when working with an ill friend.

When using easily accessible CBD became legal, Mary began educational dinners at a local Tampa restaurant where you could enjoy an infused dinner, educate yourself and sample the different varieties of CBD available. And as cannabis (THC) became legal, her focus moved in that direction as well, finding ways to put cannabis into the foods we eat everyday rather than gummies and candy. Mary believes that you are what you eat. Cannabis has so many entourage plants and vegetables with similar terpenes that can increase potency and experience, why would you not combine them? So she does, in so many unique ways.  From infused almond milk chocolate ice cream to mayonnaise and almond butter – you can satisfy all your cravings and eat healthy with a cannabis filled kitchen and inspired dishes.

Episode 27: Founder of Stasis Water By Design, Horace Mosley

Episode 27: Founder of Stasis Water By Design, Horace Mosley

Food is medicine, medicine is food. Horace studied the Science of Alternative and Integrative Medicine and set out on a journey to learn what causes illness and how to rid one's body of causative factors. Mindset is the first step. Horace has observed that many of us are not enjoying the health our bodies are designed to experience. Stress, low hydration and too much caffeine to stimulate us into action can be very hard on the human adrenal glands, which alters moods and quality of life. Sometimes convenience does more harm than good, and when this happens it is time to reset the Mind and take inventory of what is going into not only our stomachs but our eyes and ears. I also ask Horace if he believes the universe and all life in it is the result of a series of accidents, or, is there an intelligent designer behind it.

Episode 18: I Went to a Homeless Ministry Church

Episode 18: I Went to a Homeless Ministry Church

Many churches aim to give people a smooth experience from the moment they pull into the parking lot. Get the people in, get them caffeinated, get them into their seats and get them out the door and back into their cars. It ends up coming across as a performance. For the first time in a long time, at this church for the homeless, I could be who I am while I sat and listened to the pastor's message. Then we transition to C.S. Lewis' book, 'Mere Christianity' and chapter one's 'Law of Human Nature.' From here, we move to different types of fear and how many scripture translations should have used the word 'awe' instead of fear. Why? Because throughout scripture men and women prostrated themselves in the presence of angelic beings, and Jesus Himself, and their response to humans was, "Do not be afraid." Obviously, the fear these humans felt was not where the Angels and Jesus wanted them to stay, because close on the heels of fear is hate.

Conversation, Cannabis & Christianity--Introduction

Conversation, Cannabis & Christianity--Introduction

We help the cannabis user understand Christ, and the Christian understand cannabis. The Christian scriptures record Jesus telling a crowd of religious hypocrites that it is not what one puts into their body that defiles them, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them. If a young child suffering from disease or injury, and the unwanted side effects of strong prescription drugs, can clinically and experientially benefit from using a form of cannabis, then how is it that cannabis became synonymous with cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine. Come with us as we explore the cannabis plant and the person of Jesus Christ!
