UPDATED - A Glimpse Into How MProper Mimi Episodes Intersect
S2Ep7: Sometimes I amazed at how without even trying the topics that we discuss on MProper Mimi in one way or another often seem to intersect. This reminds me of a quote by Audre Lorde - "There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives." Looking at the issues we have talked about with our Mproper Mimi guests as Black and Latinx women and people we can see how one issue overlaps with another. So while it is a short episode today, join host Mimi Jacks as she talks about why each of these issues are important and why she is passionate about them.
Feedback and comments from you our awesome listeners is always welcome and helps to shape the upcoming topics you hear from MProper Mimi. Thank you for listening and sharing your stories!

Who Sees the Color of Your Skin?
S2Ep2: Today on MProper Mimi we are taking a look at colorism aka blanquemiento, which is the discrimination on the color of one's skin. In many cultures colorism occurs within the same race or ethnic groups with some believing that lighter skin is better than darker skin. Tune in as Mimi Jacks is joined by Elisa Jaramillo to talk about the impact colorism has had on our families, our Black and Latinx communities and how we raise our kids through the intersectionality of it all. Learning about MPressive Black Women Veterans and all they do!
Episode 24: Happy Veterans Day! Often round this time of year I'm in #ScorpioSeason mode. There are a lot of birthdays and celebrations in my family including November 11th. I know my grandfather was in the Army, as well as few of my uncles and friends, including those who are still active duty in other branches of military (Can you tell me how many there are?). I never really knew any Black Women Veterans that could tell me about their experience and time in the military. Shoot...I didn't even really understand the renewing or contracts and retention! So as usual, my network of friends and organizations came through and voilà, we have an MPressive MProper Mimi episode on Black Women in the military.
So join your host, Mimi Jacks as I sit down with 1st Sergeant Tiffany Eaddy and listen in to us chat about the ups and downs of being in the military, leadership, feelings of accomplishment, and the stigma of being a Black Women in a position of authority. There also is a long history of Black Women in the military and we talked about a couple of those firsts, some being as recent as within the last few years.
As we are also coming off of another historic 2020 Presidential election, I also wanted to give voice to other Black Women Veterans to gain a better understanding of what so many go through in the military with their careers, families and internal growth. Women who had to endure sexual harassment, racism, leaving children behind while on tour, disrespect, and slander as well as promotions, traveling abroad, marriage, entrepreneurship, and successfully retiring! Thanks goes out to Keesha Dancy, Natasha Howard, 2nd Lieutenant Yolanda Knight and Staff Sergeant Sofia Olds . You ladies truly blessed me and I hope you all continue to share your stories.
So please listen and share the MProper Mimi podcast where we love to empower women in all they do at Home Work and Play! Feel free to show your support by becoming a sponsor today.

As you will hear, there is no shortage for the many different ways that we can each step up to work towards justice and equality. The important thing to remember is that it starts with you. We should all campaign to bring about political or social change for those things we are passionate about and the people we love.

I'm Still Here - Multigenerational Bookclub - and We Still Have Hope!
Episode 21: MProper Mimi is joined by some awesome Millennials, a Gen Z and another Gen Xer to discuss I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown. Listen in as we talk about our different experiences in school, church and life when it comes to dealing with race...and how we are coping now. Over the weeks that our small multigenerational book club met together, I was surprised to learn from my daughter and cousin how their generations (who I thought did not see color) now perceive some of their childhood experiences. Even as we read through chapters about Austin's experiences, we touched a little upon race and reconciliation in the church, diversity in our public and private schools as well as how we manage to keep reading books with such heavy topics! Drop me a message or voice note after you listen to let me know if you can relate. Did you read the book also? What did you think? I would love to hear from you, Ciao!

Supermom Joy - Day to Day Adventures of a Mom, Wife, Entrepreneur, Designer and Hula Dancer
Episode 20: When I look back at raising my daughter as a single mom, people would ask "Wow, how do you juggle everything you do and raise a child?". My response was always by any means necessary and with the help of my village we made it happen. So this week on MProper Mimi, our host Mimi Jacks is joined by fellow Supermom and designer Mikaela Pabon and I ask her the same question. Not only does Mikaela have two little ones at home, she is also a wife, wardrobe stylist and founder of her own company Dressed in Joy! Listen in as Mimi Jacks and Mikaela chat about the entrepreneurial life while juggling a family at home as well. Finding Joy in even the little things we do makes the journey all the more worth while. Follow Mikaela on IG @DressinJoy @MikaelaPabon and for event and blog updates visit www.mikaelapabon.com/links.

Writing to Strengthen Your Voice and Preserve your Memories
I don't want you to think that Mimi pairs wine with all of her activities! We used our time together talking about the importance of everyday people writing their stories during the racial and social injustices that we are all surrounded by. Documenting our experiences for society and our families is just as important as using writing as a form of self care and mental wellness.

Sip From Your Couch - Black Women in Wine
We focused on women in wine, particularly Black women in the wine industry for our wine recommendations. What we found was that it was difficult for some people to find wine in their local stores from the following Black owned wineries and winemakers: Brown Estate, McBride Sisters, Theopolis Vineyards, Stuyvesant Champagne and Aslina Wines. Whether it's due to demographics or distribution, you can ask your local store to order these and other Black owned wines for your tasting pleasure or go right to the source and order direct!
We invited Paula Harrell, from P. Harrell Wines to join us afterwards for an intimate conversation about Black Women in wine and what some of their experiences have been in the wine industry. Mimi talked with Lea, Keesha and Paula about what first sparked their interest in wine, to various challenges and accomplishments they have achieved. We hope this episode helps to open the world of wine to women and empower them to identify what they like to drink and why. As always, we want to encourage supporting Black businesses and women in business as well.
