A celebration of risk-taking and the power of persistence, MY HEART SAYS GO follows first generation college student, Indigo, who defies his father and drops out of medical school to become a singer-songwriter. Indigo is accompanied on his journey by a new friend, Clara, who has her own struggles at home. By the end, Indigo and his father find a new respect and understanding for each other, while Clara experiences a loss that allows her to see the importance of family and human connection. MY HEART SAYS GO is a celebratory anthem for the next generation and a loving reminder for parents. This new pop musical is about listening to your heart, overcoming obstacles, and never giving up on those you love. Born and raised on the east side of O’ahu, Erica learned about improv comedy in 7th grade and yeah, no it’s pretty much all been downhill from there.

In 2021, they graduated from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a minor in English Literature, and have since put both degree specialities to use by becoming a full-time actor in NYC as well as writing you this run-on sentence; jk, they also work part-time as a bookseller.

Erica does frequent work with the non-profit organization Fandom Forward, and recently joined the creative board of Mixed Asian Media. Once a week, she loves to yell about coming of age love stories and mythology with her genius co-host/best friend on their podcast Seaweed Brain.

Also passionate about movement in all forms, she can be found playing capoeira and teaching yoga in Queens.

Be Our Guest with Johanna Telander

Johanna Telander is a decorated singer, composer, and lyricist, and the creative force behind Kalevala – The Musical. She currently splits her time creating music, continuing her prolific voice-over career (Volvo National), and parenting two delightful, energetic children with her husband.

With a Bachelor’s degree from Capital Conservatory of Music, and after a decades-long career as a singer, where she has had the privilege of working in such extraordinary settings as the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the United Nations, The Lincoln Center, and The Bitter End, Johanna has diversified her skills and vocal style, drawing upon influences from jazz, pop, and folk, and now to the story-telling world of musical theatre.

Johanna left her homeland of Finland for the United States to pursue her dreams, despite a lucrative record deal with Universal Music and a hit song. In addition to her Bachelor's, she holds a performance degree from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.  In her side hustle as an actress, she has appeared in nearly fifty independent film projects (some of them featuring her original music). But, it is within the creative process of music where she feels most at home. Kalevala the Musical is her first large-scale musical production and, hopefully, the first of many to follow.

Kalevala The Musical is a story inspired by the national epic poem of Finland. Passed down from generation to generation, these tales were finally collected in a book of poems by Elias Lonnrot in 1835. Widely cherished across the world, Kalevala has been a source of inspiration to many fantasy authors, including J.R.R. Tolkien.

Be Our Guest with Jennifer Ashley Tepper

Jennifer Ashley Tepper is a producer of the musicals Be More Chill, Broadway Bounty Hunter, and Love In Hate Nation. She is also the Creative and Programming Director at Feinstein's/54 Below, and the author of The Untold Stories of Broadway book series. She is the creator of The Jonathan Larson Project and historian consultant on the upcoming film version of tick, tick...BOOM! Tepper was recently named recipient of a 2020 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award.

As the leader of Feinstein's/54 Below's creative programming team, Tepper is responsible for programming every show at the Broadway supper club and concert venue. She has curated and overseen the production of over 3500 shows, ranging from musicals in concert, to original solo acts, to theatrical reunions, to songwriter celebrations, and beyond. Feinstein's/54 Below has become notable for being the only venue of its kind: presenting over a dozen shows every week, specializing in Broadway acts, and welcoming both traditional cabaret and innovative new work. Tepper's leadership has been instrumental in making the locale "Broadway's Living Room", where on any given night one can find Broadway's biggest stars and emerging talents side by side, creating and sharing new work in an intimate theatrical environment.

Tepper is the co-creator of the Bistro Award-winning concert series, If It Only Even Runs A Minute, now in its 7th year. ...Runs A Minute celebrates short-lived Broadway and off-Broadway musicals in concerts that feature photos and research as well as songs. Each concert also boasts original cast members and writers telling stories, as well as songs that have never been recorded. The series thus far has comprised over 250 performers and over 200 'under-appreciated' shows. AM New York has called the series: "Artistically compelling... displays the blood, guts, sweat and tears that go into making Broadway shows."

Her most recent contribution to the concert world is The Jonathan Larson Project, an evening of the RENT composer’s unheard work. After years of research at the Library of Congress, Tepper curated a show featuring songs from Larson’s never-produced shows like 1984 and Superbia, songs that were cut from RENT and tick tick BOOM, songs that had never been heard before. After a celebrated twelve-performance run at Feinstein’s/54 Below, the show was forever immortalized by Ghostlight Records.

As a writer, Tepper has authored three volumes of The Untold Stories of Broadway series, published by Dress Circle. For these books, Tepper interviewed 250 theatre professionals about the Broadway theaters themselves and their stories of working in each house. The books cover over 70 years of our theatrical history, shared through first-hand interviews with Broadway professionals who were there. The Untold Stories of Broadway books comprise stories with actors, producers, directors, writers, designers, stagehands, door men and women, musicians, house managers, press agents, ushers, and many more. Interspersed with interviewees' stories are Tepper's own tales and discoveries about each historic building. The Untold Stories of Broadway partners with a charitable organization that receives proceeds from each volume, and is currently partnered with Broadway Impact, the Theatre Development Fund, and the Broadway Green Alliance. Published in 2013, 2014, and 2016, each book has occupied the #1 spot on Amazon.com's Best Sellers List in Broadway & Musicals. NBC New York has called the books an 'inspiring Must-Read'.

Be Our Guest with Michael Gordon Shapiro and Aimee Reid (Gideon and the Blundersnorp)

Michael Gordon Shapiro

Los Angeles-based Michael Gordon Shapiro composes for film, games, television, theater, and the concert hall. Classically trained, he delivers a romantic sound that blends the acoustic orchestra, evocative soloists, and organic-sounding electronics.

Michael’s background spans both film/television scoring and the more technical discipline of music for games. He entered the game world as audio director of Boston-based Zoesis Studios, where he composed live orchestral scores and designed the studio’s adaptive music system.

Michael is also an active composer for musical theatre; his children’s show Super Sidekick: The Musical is published by Samuel French / Concord Theatricals and has been performed in front of young audiences throughout the United States, including Off-Broadway in 2012. His family musicals Gideon and the Blundersnorp and  The Bully Problem have won numerous awards and nominations, including (for “Gideon”) Best Musical at the 2021 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Aimee Reid

Aimee is a Toledo-area native, graduating from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor of arts degree in theatre for youth and puppetry. Post-bachelor’s, she was admitted to Arizona State University, where she earned a Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Theatre for Youth and a master’s certification in nonprofit leadership and management. She teaches and directs for the Ensemble and the Young Theatre Professionals, and she leads the Creative and Brave Company (a community-based theatre program for teens, at CTW). She received the 2018 Ann Elgood Youth Theatre Director of the Year award with the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. Her favorite part about working at Children’s Theatre Workshop is seeing young people fall in love with theatre and helping them make the stories their own. It is her belief that when young people tell stories, amazing things can happen.

Gideon and the Blundersnorp

Gideon is a stablehand who yearns to join the Royal Cavaliers. Alanna is a young viscountess who feels trapped in the system of hereditary succession. The two have more in common than they think.

Thrown together by chance, Gideon and Alanna must contend with bandits, a treacherous forest, and a giant monster that just wants to eat everyone.

Gideon and the Blundersnorp combines witty characters, pulse-pounding excitement, and a rousing cinematic/medieval-folk score. Underlying the fun is a positive message: aspiration is fueled by personal character, not social class.

Luisa is an actor/writer/musician who grew up in Sydney, trained in London, and now lives, loves, and play in the New York City area. She holds a certificate in Meditation Facilitation from Nature Care College, a BA in English and History from the University of New South Wales, and an MA in Music Theatre from the Royal Central School of Speech Drama.

Six weeks before her thirtieth birthday Luisa was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Three rounds of chemo, eleven doses of full body radiation, and a stem cell transplant saved Luisa's life, but left her incredibly debilitated. She was unable to eat takeout, ride the subway, or do her favorite thing in the world - go to the theatre. Luisa spent her recovery building
Filmed Live Musicals, a website dedicated to cataloging stage musicals that have been legally filmed and publicly shared. It is now the most comprehensive site of its kind, and includes a bi-weekly podcast and a weekly newsletter.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Luisa also started running marathons during her recovery, and ran her 5th marathon on the 5th anniversary of her stem cell transplant.

Luisa is currently an active member of NYC's MasterVoices Chorus, where she also serves on the Singers Council.

When not performing, or reading/watching/writing about musicals, Luisa loves adventuring with her husband Aaron, and Voltaire, their "best of all possible" puppies black lab.

Be Our Guest with Uproar Theatrics

A playwright, a composer, an actor and a lawyer walk into a bar…and end up having a transformative discussion about how the current licensing system’s a bit behind the times and ripe for disruption. The internet...is a thing that exists now. We don’t depend on theatre critics or buying cast recording CDs at Tower Records anymore (RIP) as our only way to learn about incredible new shows.

They are not a publisher. They only license, and they peddle in digital files. No more erasing librettos and mailing them back. Working with pixels instead of pencils gives creators the ability to keep making their pieces better. We get a new draft, it’s up on the website as the new licensed version right away.

We’re on a mission to open up the theatrical pipeline to bring thrilling, fresh theatre to the people - all the people. Not just the ones in New York City. Dive into the perusals, check out the video and audio, and holler if we can answer any questions.

Be Our Guest with Sally Fuller

Freelance Writer. Ginger. Broadway Fan. Featured on: Encore AtlantaBroadwayWorld.com, and the Huffington Post.

A theatre aficionado with a passion for telling people’s stories, I have had the privilege of interviewing local theatre professionals as well as multi-award-winning celebrities including Carol Burnett, Matthew MorrisonTaylor Hicks, and Vanessa Williams.

My two greatest passions are theatre and writing. For the past eight years, I have written about theatre in varying capacities, which currently include theatre criticism, interviews, and theatre fan features. I love using writing as a way to celebrate theatre as a cultural necessity.

My lifelong background in and extensive study of theatre have given me a discerning eye for professional theatre criticism. Through a love for connecting with people, I have developed a propensity for quickly building rapport with and drawing authentic stories out of interviewees. My goal is to dive into what makes artists unique as people, not just highlight their accomplishments. As a self-proclaimed theatre nerd, I also have the ability to craft opinion pieces targeted at Broadway nerds like me.

Since 2011, my work has been featured in the #1 theatre news website in the world (BroadwayWorld.com), the Huffington Post, Encore Magazine, and the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival.

From tender ballads to protest rock songs, Billy & the Dreamerz rides on the ‘New Wave’, telling a moving story of Love, Hope and Dreamz.

Billy & the Dreamerz arrives at a time of resurgent interest in all things 80’s, uniting music fans across multiple generations. With its emphasis on the strong bonds of friendship in the face of working class struggles, Billy & the Dreamerz is a modern Musical inspired by the Dickens classics ‘Nicholas Nickleby’ (novel) and ‘Oliver!’ (Musical).

Refracted through the lens of 1980’s music and culture, Billy & the Dreamerz explores the gulf between opportunity and obligation - a gulf that is ultimately bridged by love.
