Hopefully after today's episode Curtiss King will help you understand why you have reached that peak. #TheCurtissKingPodcast

Live Life Like You Were Given A Second Chance. At the recording of this podcast I was fresh off a trash 48 hours of chaos. When I attempted to look out for some optimism in the moment, I found myself just getting more frustrated. Instead I turned to a philosophy inspired by a journal entry I once wrote. This entry posed the question: If my life was unexpectedly taken away, but I was somehow given a second chance to live it again, what would I do differently? Let this podcast be your guide to living a life with the urgency and appreciation you deserve.

Are You A Producer Or A Comedian BRO?
This week my social media audience saw a few different faces of Curtiss King. Curtiss King the TikTok producer, Curtiss King the skit comedian, Curtiss King the motivator, etc. In showcasing these different parts of my personality it has inspired and entertained many while confusing others about what I'm trying to accomplish. In this episode I dive into why I choose not to explain myself to the confused. Long story short....I choose happiness over the need to be RIGHT.

Why I'm Selling Beats Again
Why I'm Selling Beats Again. In a turn of events that may or may not be surprising to my most diehard viewers, I've made the decisions to sell beats again. So much has changed since I decided to stop selling in 2019. New platforms have emerged, I'm a better producer, and I have a team that can help to automate so many things that used to be a headache. However, beyond the evolution of the business there is one platform that inspired this entire chain of events: TIKTOK.

The ONE Thing I Must Do NOW
The ONE Thing I Must Do NOW
Music Producers, there is a shift occurring with me and my business. After tearing through content, starting new ventures, and challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone I'm finding that I might've gone too far off the path in some areas. Simply put, it's time for me to focus in on ONE thing. And it is my hope that by being transparent with what that means to me at this stage of my career, it will also help you gain clarity. Like Lebron told Lonzo, KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING. Let's expand on that.

How Curtiss King Made 50K In A Week With A Online Course? Music Producers, these are the topics that I typically avoid because they never tell the whole story. While many producers share their success stories to inspire their peers, others use them to validate a pending offer for some course teaching them how they to can do it. That's not me, and that's never been my brand. So in today's episode I'm going to do my best to expose the GOOD, THE CAP, and the UGLY about what my 50K Music Producer Power Course week launch looked like, and why it isn't as grand as it appears. Lastly, in this episode we discuss the relaunch of my online university for Music Producers called Curtiss King University.

The Producer I'd Never Buy From
The Producer I'd Never Buy From
The Music Producer I'd never buy from is a personality type I'm sure you've seen before. It's usually a guy insulting your intelligence, your self esteem, strategy, and pockets through online advertisements. What's interesting about them is that they usually have more in common with pick up artists than the producers they are trying to finesse. So in today's episode we discuss how to spot them and why you should avoid doing business with them.

Confessions Of A Toxic Music Producer
Confessions Of A Toxic Music Producer
What does it mean to be a TOXIC Music Producer? This was a tough podcast episode for me to create, but the transparency was necessary. In my 18 year journey of pursuing this elusive and sometimes selfish goal of creating music full time on my terms, I have undoubtedly hurt some innocent bystanders. I have been guilty of viewing myself as the only character in my movie many times. However, as I get older it makes me more empathetic and self reflective. In this episode I reflect on how the ego and emotions supported by years of justifying this toxic behavior can take a toll on a person if you don't identify, understand, and eliminate it. Hopefully my transparency can help you gain your own clarity. Lastly, LONG LIVE SHOCK G ❤

My Issue With INDUSTRY STANDARD Talk
My Issue With INDUSTRY STANDARD Talk
Music Producers, I feel like I've been hearing the phrase "The Industry Standard" since I first start making music. While most producers and engineers understand it to be simply the 'agreed' upon norms of say, the music industry, I think that there are many that use it unconsciously as a measuring stick of your dedication to your craft. Let's talk about it.

The Power Of Self Doubt As A Music Producer
The Power Of Self Doubt As A Music Producer
Music Producers, self doubt is a tricky beast to understand sometimes. It seems like no matter how great you get at making music, there is an inner voice that knows exactly what buttons to push to make you doubt your craft and most importantly yourself. Self doubt can be paralyzing to the creative mind, but does it have to be? Can self doubt be seen as necessary ingredient towards your constant evolution as a Music Producer? Do those who claim to experience no self doubt still feel motivated to evolve? Lastly, we also discuss a personal mantra I've been using in honor of the late great Nipsey Hussle, called Marathon Learning. What is Marathon Learning? Listen to today's episode and see.

How To Know When Your Beat Is FINISHED
How To Know When Your Beat Is FINISHED
Music Producers, in this special episode of The Curtiss King Podcast we tackle an age old question: How do you know when your beat is finished? Originally I had a few episode planned with just my own explanation and thought process when deciding on whether I think a beat is complete...but then I had an idea to ask the question to some of my most influential musical peers including: Kyle Beats, Simon Servida, Epik The Dawn, OSYM BEATS, DECAP, Oh Gosh Leotus, L.Dre, Larry Ohh, Sarah The Instrumentalist, Nabeyin, and Captain. The more I edited this podcast the more it started to become one of my favorites episodes of the Curtiss King Podcast. With that said, I present to you the 70th episode (can you believe it?!).

Why Producers Should Rap Over Their Own Beats
Why Producers Should Rap Over Their Own Beats
Music Producers, it is by no means a NEW concept for producers to pen lyrics to their own beats. History has shown that producer/rappers have arguably been some of the most influential to music. However, for the producers out there that don't consider themselves to be recording artists or have never tried writing lyrics, I'd like to make a case for why you should begin now. In today's podcast I discuss how creating, recording, and mixing lyrics can help you become a better Music Producer.

Why You Should Stop Sitting On Your Music
Music Producers, in today's episode of the Curtiss King Podcast I make my case for why you should think twice about the naturally overthinking process of sitting on unreleased music. This topic was inspired by not only my computer situation from last week but from a tweet that went viral this week. With so much emphasis for musicians on ROLL OUTS and RELEASE DAY STRATEGIES you might find today's episode to be a bit unusual and or comforting. Let's talk about it.

But for some reason with my 36th birthday approaching next week a new surge of thoughts and possibly insecurities have crept up on me. My Music Producer Offseason
My Music Producer Offseason
Do Music Producers need an offseason? This was a question that I posed to myself after taking my annual year end break to recharge after an eventful 2020. At first glance it appears to be an almost laughable idea. You, like many others may think to yourself... why would a producer need an offseason? We sit at desks and make beats all day, it's not like we are athletes. But when you consider the mental wear and tear that growing a successful music career can apply and think about just how long a year actually is, it doesn't seem so far fetched. Listen to the podcast and let me know what your thoughts are on this.

Don't Put Your Producer Name On Everything!
Music Producers, the word of the day is BRAND EXTENSION. This is a marketing phrase that illustrates when a brand starts slapping their name on products that they are not originally known for creating. I myself have struggled with this issue with the Curtiss King brand. I have literally slapped my name on products since 2006 and sometimes it has worked out for and other times it hasn't. Today's episode will be my attempt at helping you avoid the same pitfalls and brand fatigue this has brought me.

Music Producer Validation Not Included
Music Producer Validation Not Included
Music Producers, while reading a book called The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins I came across a section that spoke powerfully on the topic validation. In it she speaks about how our need for others to co-sign or grant us permission to pursue our ideas is literally robbing the life out of our dreams. It's a passage that I wish I could send to every Producer that DM's me demanding me to listen to their music and validate they're on the right path. In this episode we speak about the power of being an ACTION first music producer and how it can literally change your music and life.

A Music Producer Voice In A Time Of Pain (Rest In Power George Floyd)
Music Producers, today's podcast we need to switch gears. So much is going on in the world right now that is affecting us all in different ways. Most recently and closest to home, the heinous act of authority in Minneapolis captured on camera that took the life of George Floyd. Although this isn't a music related topic, I no longer can allow myself to create escapism content with this HEAVY on my heart and mind. So today's episode is dedicated to honoring the memory of George Floyd, the problem with the media's use of imagery, my views on the silence of others, and how those of us that want to help can help.

Long Live The Black Mamba
Long Live The Black Mamba
I needed a second to sit with my thoughts on this one. I like a lot of people around the world have been in a haze since the Sunday that this tragedy occurred. I needed to reflect not just as a die hard Laker and Kobe fan, but as a human being. I don't know if I'm processing it all correctly, but that's the least of my concern at this moment. What's more important to me right now is to honor them all in a way that was with class. Speaking about my experience this past week was therapeutic and I hope it brings you light to an otherwise dark week for many of us. Today's episode of The Curtiss King Podcast is dedicated to the legendary Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, John & Keri & Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah & Payton Chester, Christina Mauser, and pilot Ara Zobayan. Today's video will not be monetized, just shared.

My 35th Bday, Food Poisoning, Timbaland & Wale Showing Love
I debated on not releasing today's podcast due to the news we all received yesterday about Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and their friends that passed away in a tragic accident in California. But we recorded this podcast episode January 23rd on my 35th birthday and I felt like it could help those that are currently grieving and anxious about the future. In this episode we discussed everything from the joy of getting older, the power of dominating with kindness, and Timbaland and Wale sharing my video content that week. I would of preferred to make this a Kobe dedication Podcast, but we will save that for next week. For today I want you guys to enjoy the life in this podcast and more importantly the life behind the eyes that are reading these words. Love you all. Music Producers, before you set your 2020 new year resolutions watch this podcast. When was the last time you asked yourself, am I having fun making music anymore?" I know that towards the end of 2019, music wasn't fun anymore for me. Monetizing what originally started off as a hobby had finally run it's course. However, after some deep soul searching and truth seeking, I found my way back. Now It's my goal to help producers that have gotten so caught up in the business and promotion of their music that they stopped having fun entirely. How To Get Into Your Flow State As A Music Producer
How To Get Into Your Flow State As A Music Producer
Music Producers, over the past few months I've been reading a lot about the power of FLOW STATE. For those that have never heard of FLOW it is often referred to as being in a ZONE. FLOW STATE finds us as Music Producers when we are so fully immersed in our beat making process that we lose track of time and the necessity to overthink the process. Scientist say that when we reach a FLOW a part of our brain called the Pre-Frontal Cortex (Responsible for emotions and overthinking) temporarily shuts down.
For a producer like myself that OVERTHINKS the process often, especially on live streams, this topic intrigues me, Especially when I learned that there's actually a way for us to get to this state on a regular basis. Well, not only did I achieve myself these past few weeks, but I believe that I have figured out a way you too can consistently tap into your Music Producer FLOW STATE.

Atlanta Made Me LOVE Making Beats Again
Atlanta Made Me LOVE Making Beats Again
The past few months I found myself falling deeper and deeper into state of uncertainty. The worst part was that I couldn't quite pinpoint what was driving me down into such a dark hole. In the midst of the dark period I made a commitment to giving myself the self care necessary to turn it all around. I wasn't making any music, but I started doing things like going for daily walks, going to the gym, journaling, and meditating.
However, it wouldn't be until I took a last minute trip to Atlanta for my Producergrind and Cymatics interviews that I was able to get back on track. In this podcast episode I discuss the details of my trip as well as what exactly happened that gave me back my LOVE for making beats again.
