Our final "Under The Covers" episode part, but surely not the last time M&B will be working with the legendary Ernie Cefalu. In this episode, we chat with the Godfather of Album covers about future news in the making! Ernie has the largest Original album art collection and numerous art pieces. We walk through the recent past as he paints a picture of recent Art museum shows including Forest Lawn, The Smithsonian Rock and Soul, Gallery 13 and The Disciple. Part 10n tells a great story! This history explored here should and will last for ever. Not only are there 1000's of corporate pieces and 250 Album artwork that were used, there were quite a few great iconic art and lettering that were not used for various reasons.

Zoomin in from Ireland, Colm Gavin was a "Brilliant" guest to have on and hear his stories. Gavin brings us into his life as a child and reveals that he remembers listening to his moms favorite artist, Elton John as a child.  These memories have created inspiration to hopefully share the stage with Sir Elton at some point in Colms lifetime. Colms knowledge of the actual workings of music is truly eyeopening and he lets us listen in on some of his hit songs.  Colm has appeared on many music charts, not only in Ireland but the US Billboard charts and numerous other countries. Kevin is currently touring internationally with "Foreigners Journey" and playing with "The Long Run." At the young age of 15, Kevin found himself playing as a professional musician in iconic LA clubs like "The Whiskey" and "The Roxy". Ernie Cefalu began his career as an advertising executive in the late 1960s and quickly drew himself into music history. They say timing is everything and for Ernie he swears by it, a lucky break put him in the right place at the right time. This encounter led him to influencing the design of one of the most iconic album covers ever. His higher ups recognized his talent and so did those who were their clients. 

Within a short period of time, Ernie became well known for his artistic design sense and ability to manage projects. After attaining his life long dream of working on Madison Avenue in New York, Ernie returned home and started "Pacific Eye & Ear" as his own shop. He and his team quickly became the pre-eminent album cover design firms in the country. 

Cefalu has received three Grammy nominations and ten Music Hall of Fame Awards for his album cover work. The accolades are many and yet, Cefalu consistently points to lucky timing and his teams for his achieving so many successes. His could talk a dog of a meat wagon and fills this episode with so many stories and lessons learned from his years of moving and shaking in the ad world.

The amazing and multi-talented Michelle Brooks Thompson joins John and Mark for episode 24.  Michelle has had a Billboard's gospel chart #1 hit. Her appearance  on Season 3 of NBC's "THE VOICE" showcased her vocal range and stage presence. Michelle tells us all about her organization that she pioneered with her husband that helps afford kids the ability to be part of sports and music. She tells her story of serenading Derek Jeter at Fenway Park and having a memorable moment shared with the world.  What would your worse fear be when singing in front of 75,000 people? Mine would be loosing power to my microphone.  Well, Michelle had this happen and her professionalism at the time made this incident a nationwide memorable rendition of The National Anthem. He is currently working on his Broadway caliber show, "Their Songs Live On." Get ready Nashville… she is coming for you! Paige Davis is only 22 years old but has already accomplished so much. At the age of 12, Paige participated in her first open mic night. Paige told us, “That night I came home and knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I knew I wanted to play music and put smiles on peoples faces.” She was off and running, by the age of 15, Paige headlined a show and started getting overnight national attention. Soon enough she was opening the show for the likes of Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Young, Josh Turner, Morgan Evans, Michael Ray, Frankie Ballard and William Michael Morgan to name a few.  She comes from a very supportive and musical family that has inspired and helped her along this journey. Her qualities as an artist and a person are endless. She is very humble singer, musician and songwriter. These qualities are the perfect recipe for success. She for sure is one to watch.  We loved having her visit in studio just before  she chases her dreams in Nashville TN.  We are rooting for you Paige, Go get ‘em!

What a pleasure to have singer/songwriter Michael Pace and drummer Matt Zall join us in studio recording from one of the coolest spots ever. We were graciously hosted, wined and dined by Dustin and Julie Whitney in their incredible 1860's barn.  Michael tells us his connection with Boston Bruin's Brad Marchand & Kevan Miller and how he was brought into their March and Mill Co. project. M&B had Nashville based Singer/Songwriter Jeff Batson ZOOMed into our studio this week. We learned of some great behind the scenes info on his inspirations and techniques for his successful songwriting. He shared his thoughts on his most intimate song "Found My Way To You" which is a tribute to his Mom via adoption. It is a very touching song which he gave to his Mom for a birthday present; it also tugs at the heart strings to learn he sang it at her funeral. 

You will be surprised who he listens to as he drives around town and up and down Broadway. He has opened for some pretty big names and shared the stage with some greats! He offers some advice to new artists and some insight to how songs get "plugged" in the industry.
