#29: Save A Life With Empathy
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25 in today's episode we have a situation for you to imagine:
Imagine for a moment if your ability to be with loved ones, pursue worldly achievements or even sit in your favorite park to read depended upon the professional and personal integrity of an appointed federal district judge and elected state official. How confident would you feel about the likelihood of your ability to enjoy and pursue the simple pleasures of your life?
Because from where I'm sitting, in a prison cell for a crime I didn't commit, it sure seems like what the New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas and likewise, the State of New Mexico, is telling me is that if I wasn't Mexican, didn't have dark hair, brown eyes, and if my first language wasn't Spanish, then, and only then, would the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution apply to me. I would then qualify for the good brand of Justice that individuals like Jenna Ryan or Kyle Rittenhouse qualify for.
Listen to today's episode where we dive into the full details of this scenario and how this will all play out.
My goal is to bring insight to you from my experiences with the justice system and now 17 years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted for a crime I did not commit. I feel that the things I can say that can help form and change conversation about criminal justice.

#28: Fighting Color Coded Justice
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25 in today's episode we talk about a subject called color coded justice, where we talk in more detail about the injustice of our justice system. As we all know, there are countless examples in the US of inequality. Today we step back into my case, after having recently filed my reply to the New Mexico attorney general in my fight for justice and the very legitimacy of the amendments in the constitution.
We live in a nation where who you are as related to the color of your skin, your language, your titles and positions, etc. either entitle you to certain protection from the law or not.
In this episode we talk about the injustice of race in the United States. Listen now for the full details.
My goal is to bring insight to you from my experiences with the justice system and now 17 years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted for a crime I did not commit. I feel that the things I can say that can help form and change conversation about criminal justice.

#26: Revolving Door
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25 in today's episode we cover the topic revolving door revolving to crime - crime seems to be a cyclical cycle as well as the solutions by politicians.. I want to talk about some dangerous measures being pushed by democratic politicians in New Mexico.
These politicians are selling the false narrative of being able to fight crime - while the media is helping them push their agenda. The revolving door of crime, offenders are convicted, sentenced, and sent for rehabilitation, costing tax payers over $46,000 per inmate per year. To put in perspective, a full ride scholarship to UNM is only $42,000.
In today's episode we cover this controversial topic in depth and the issues people in New Mexico are facing.
My goal is to bring insight to you from my experiences with the justice system and now 17 years behind bars after being wrongfully convicted for a crime I did not commit. I feel that the things I can say that can help form and change conversation about criminal justice.

#21: Trust: The Currency Of Democracy
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25 in today's episode #21 we cover the topic of trust between citizens and government and why it is one of the most important part of democracy.
Between the local law enforcement all the way up to the highest levels of government, it is our job as citizens to fight corruption.
Do we trust our institutions? Do we trust our legal system? Do we trust our economy?
After 17 years of incarceration, I have had a lot of time to contemplate these issues. One follower from Denmark recently asked, "why is the legal system in the US so corrupt? And what is needed to really bring justice?"
In today's episode we cover all this and more. Listen now.

#20: Proving Democracy Works
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode proving democracy works we cover the topic around a quote that recently came from president Joe Biden..
Recently I heard president Joe Biden say “we’ve got to prove democracy works” I don’t think people realized but.. we should consider the gravity of the situation when the leader of the free world says that democracy needs a publicity boost… its a frightening statement… what he is saying is democracy isn’t working and we need to prove that it does…
What does this mean for our country? Our Freedoms? Our Democracy?

#19: Who's To Blame?
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode Who's To Blame we cover a topic that has been contemplated for years - who is to blame for what has happened to me? Who's to blame for me being wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life plus 25 years for a crime that I did not commit?
After having everything taken away from me - my family, my career, my freedom.. And after 17 years of being behind bars and fighting for my exoneration - it has given the time to really reflect on my case and how everything played out..
The real question many people have asked will be covered in depth today - who is to blame?

#18: Vendetta
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode Vendetta we will be covering how a presidential appointed federal agent and bureaucrat demanded justice with such impetus that the constitutional rights of the accused was essentially trampled so as to achieve that end.
I had hoped that the issues of my innocence and the illegality of my conviction would be resolved through the judicial channels of the appellate process here in New Mexico.
But something happened in early 2019 while seated before the honorable Jacqueline Flores in an evidentiary hearing. John McCall, my lawyer at the time, returned to the defense table from the bench conference and suddenly informed me that I was not going to receive justice on my case due to “external influences.”
What are you talking about? What external influences? I said.
McCall signaled to none other than Richard T. Taylor, U.S. Marshall assigned by President Trump, who was seated behind A.D.A. Treich.
To say the least, I was incensed but not surprised. After all, I had been on the receiving end of U.S. Marshall Taylor’s Wrath for the last 15 years at that point. And months later, when the honorable Flores issued her opinion, John McCall’s words were confirmed as prophetic.

#17: Business Dealings That Lead To A Murder
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode business dealings that lead to a murder we discuss never before heard details of my case regarding the events leading up to that fateful day. Investigative details that have never seen the light by law enforcement or media.
How could the victim's wallet make its way from New Mexico all the way to Arizona? The day it was found only 10 people had checked into the health club - one of them being my ex-father in law who had made threats against me and made me fear for my life.
How could law enforcement ignore these facts?
Apart from that - I was denied my constitutional rights to a fair trial - Denied my right to confront my accuser in court. This is why I continue to fight.
In today's episode we cover everything in full.

Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode Fair Trial Or Fiasco we cover the facts on why my trial denied my constitutional rights and how I was pursued by a federal marshal with a vendetta to lock me up whether it was constitutional or not... #15: Hope
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode Hope we go
A listener from crime and justice broadcast visited site and asked a follow up question:
He asked, "Is it better to be filled with hope that may often be false, or just remain hopeless?"
I wanted to answer this question on today's podcast.
Whether you wake up one day from your dream and find yourself in the nightmare of suddenly being a double amputee, or in a concentration camp, or a prison, or you're fired from your job or marriage, or maybe you're bankrupt or deathly ill...
Whatever it is, either you choose to permit that circumstance to define or destroy you, or you choose to make a new you, a better and more resilient you. That's life.

#14: The Challenges We Now Face
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode The Challenges We Now Face we wanted to update everyone on where I, Mario Chavez, am currently standing in my fight for freedom and exoneration.
Well it appears that we have finally exhausted of our legal claims in the New Mexico Courts. Our demands for justice based on legitimate constitutional claims have been once again met with silence.
Now we step into the Federal Courts. Will they adhere to the law? Let us not hope, let us make sure.
Because when the courts become arbitrary they likewise become illegitimate. The facts of the state’s case against me are entirely circumstantial, the Constitution says my conviction is illegal, and the state Justices are silent.
Why?

#13: Speaking Truth To Power
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25 in today's episode Speaking Truth To Power we go over the challenges and the realities of incarceration in the state of New Mexico in the United States.
We are the forgotten voices, men who are said to have offended the laws and proprieties of the communities from which we have come, and are therefore not worthy to walk amongst you but, nonetheless, here we are having the courage to speak truth to power for our collective good—yours and ours.
Basically, we're talking about a racket of transferring funds from the pockets of the taxpayers to the pockets of the corporations like Geo and Core Civic for a rehabilitative service not being delivered. And this is precisely why New Mexicans should care.
We need the state legislature and Governor Grisham-Lujan to act. Private prisons need to be closed. The Secretary of Corrections needs to clean house and install qualified professionals who see those who are incarcerated as opportunities, future professionals, and loving parents that are capable of being reformed.

#11: Colorism Vs. Racism
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode Colorism vs. Racism we go over different experiences with colorism and racism in the real world. Today's topic was inspired by a question by a reader asking, "Do you believe you are still in prison because you are Mexican and Latino?"
I have to admit that this question startled me and a little bit shaken. Racism is a reality that may latinos are faced with, but do I really think this is the reason I still haven't got out? In today's episode I share the response I sent to the listener, while going deep on the topic of racism in the United States and around the world.

#10: The Myth Of The Superpredators - An Interview With An Inmates Wife
Welcome back to MYLIFEplus25, in today's episode The Myth Of The Superpredators - An Interview With An Inmates Wife we interview Jessica Brown, wife of Michael Brown.
Michael Brown, was charged in 1994, at the age of 16, for his participation in the double homicide of his loving grandparents, Ed and Marie. The actual, proven murderers were two adolescent friends of Michael, but the state argued and proved to a jury that he had been complicit to the crime for having entertained certain conversations of potential violence with aforementioned friends and, for not having done anything to actively stop the murders from taking place.
In this episode we talk with his wife about her experience appealing the case and working to free Michael from the system. She answers whether or not the Justice System has helped Michael, and we talk about the true horrors that some inmates face for making a mistake as a teen and paying the price for the rest of their life..

#2: Who Was I Before This?
Who was I before being wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life plus 25 years? That is what we will cover in today's episode of MYLIFEplus25.
Step inside the fight of a man who was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life plus 25 years. After 17 years of injustice his struggle continues. MYLIFEplus25 is both his experience and his voice, calling for action and solidarity in his fight for freedom.
The state of New Mexico refers to me as Mario Chavez, inmate 65079. In August of 2004 the state charged me with first degree murder, armed robbery and several counts of tampering with evidence. In 2006 a jury found me guilty of all charges and the honorable Richard Knowles sentenced me to life plus 25 years.
Here’s the problem: I didn’t kill anyone. The reason that I’m even writing or talking about this isn’t just because the state’s judicial system is systematically denying me justice, it’s because I’m not the only one.
Wrongful convictions by most estimates are at 4 percent. And with about a million felony convictions in the U.S. each year, that means that for the last 16 years of me being wrongfully incarcerated, 640,000 men and women have likewise been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to prison. And less than one-half of one percent get exonerated each year.
MYLIFEplus25 is both my experience and my voice, calling for action and solidarity in my fight for freedom.

Welcome To MYLIFEplus25, in this first episode we will be going over the full background story of Mario Chavez. In 2006 a jury found me guilty of all charges and the honorable Richard Knowles sentenced me to life plus 25 years.

If my voice means that I die in this cage because appellate judges dig in their heels, so as to save the careers and reputations of their colleagues from years past, so be it. Because at the of the day my voice will spark a change and ignite a fire that will save other lives by the tens, hundreds, or even thousands.
And if that happens, if the next appellate court chooses to ignore the constitutional infirmity of my conviction, ignoring their oath to the Constitution, then let them do so while the whole world is watching.
