Rana talks about her experience growing up in New York City and experiencing the impact of hate-based violence. She describes what led her to run for Congress in the first place and the reforms we need to meet the current moment in history that we're facing with the possible ruling against Roe vs Wade and the rise of hate crimes against Muslim and Sikh Americans.  We also talk about the influence of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq on America and whether or not that has made us safe or continues to put us at risk for those who continue to harm us. How Ron DeSantis messed with the Happiest Place on Earth [Disneyland] and the fight that Rishi Bagga is bringing to Tallahassee

How Ron DeSantis messed with the Happiest Place on Earth [Disneyland] and the fight that Rishi Bagga is bringing to Tallahassee

In this week's episode, I sat down with Rishi Bagga to speak about his for the Florida House District 35. Florida has been in the news quite consistently with regards to the fight against critical race theory, the impact of Ron DeSantis on Disney, and the future of reproductive rights after the leak of a draft opinion by Justice Alito which would end federal constitutional protections for abortion in the United States. I sat down with him to understand why he wanted to run for public office in the first place and to get a better understanding of what the triggers are for people when it comes to representation and fighting back against Republicans as they continue their assault on the free press, protest and the fundamental values that we hold so near and dear. Rishi talks about his upbringing as a small business owner, former president of the Florida chapter of the South Asian Bar Association, and how his parents shaped his perspective on the struggles of taking up space, fighting for other people, and what it means to be a true public servant.  He also debunks the stereotypes that come with living in Florida and highlights the importance of Florida's role in influencing what happens in national politics.  You can learn more about Rishi through his website and join his team to bring back representation of the people in the Republican-dominated Florida House: https://rishibagga.com/ You can also subscribe to Kaur Republic Substack to get the latest on Punjabi Perspectives on American Issues: https://kaurrep.substack.com
