This week on A News You Can Use Podcast, our Business Spotlight, Ro Simmons of The Business Lounge Dallas (BLD) in Addison, TX. She discusses how she left home to go to Texas for her senior trip in high school, started businesses, and never looked back.
Visionary. Motivator. Creator. These powerful words are but a glimpse into the DNA of serial entrepreneur and highly sought after business strategist, Ro Simmons. As early as her junior high years and even well beyond, Simmons exhibited leadership qualities indicative of a limitless, go-getting businesswoman. Determined, she entered the realm of cosmetology as a hairstylist, and then, in 2011, doubled up on her workload to manifest her aspirations. During the day, she managed six stores as a merchandising supervisor. By night, Simmons made time for her first love, training clients at Live Your Life - a gym and physical fitness center that she launched in Dallas the same year. By 2013, Simmons had transitioned into full-time entrepreneurship. Also during this time Ro competed in pitch competitions to raise capital for her businesses. She finished 1st place in 2016 for the Capital One Getting Down to Business Program. In the same year, she finished in 1st place for the Women's Resource Network. Collecting a total of 5 thousand dollars in cash and prizes. n March 2018, Simmons launched Business Lounge Dallas (BLD), as the only black and female-owned coworking space in the state of Texas. Since its inception in the bustling town of Addison, BLD has assisted over 100 clients with business ideas and launches - predominantly event spaces - in areas such as Chicago, South Carolina and internationally in Nigeria.

Published by Be And Us LLC and recorded live from Dallas, Texas. In our Business Spotlight, Danielle Barbee discusses the motivations for starting her tutoring business and much more. Favorite Book: The 4 Agreements
Mining for Diamonds: "Don't think you have to have everything right the first time you do something. I had to make many mistakes and I'll have to make many more in order to grow. You have to make mistakes in order to grow. Don't let the fear of not being perfect stop you from doing whatever it is you want to do. Marketing is KEY! The more I market I watch my numbers. I'm a numbers person. I look at my business numbers as far as revenue and the more I market; the more those numbers go up. Now when you're looking at a line graph, and you just see it go up. Don't be afraid to MARKET YOURSELF! Don't be afraid to say 'Hey this is what I do...'"
Danielle's Bio: I am Danielle Barbee, The Academic Coach. I am a Math teacher at Liberty High School in Jackson, TN, and the owner of Tailored To Your Learning LLC! I started out in the education field back in 2010 and taught high school math for 5 years. I was very successful in helping my students close multiple years of achievement gaps and helping them gain confidence.
However, after 5 years of doing that, it became too much for me mentally (I’m sure if you teach, you understand this) and I needed a break. So I began working as a cost analyst with the Missile Defense Agency 🚀 I’m glad I did this because I was able to experience something new, meet new people, and use my logic and analysis skills in a different way
However, I still had a desire to work with students and help them achieve their academic goals. So I started my tutoring company. With over 11 years of tutoring experience, I’ve successfully helped several students achieve their academic goals from elementary all the way to the collegiate level. I’ve said all of this to say, I have a story to tell and have experienced several things in my life. I use all of these real-life lessons to help the next student to do and be better than me academically, socially, and emotionally!
