The news of the death of popular singer and producer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, unsettled me greatly.  From afar, Sound Sultan cuts the figure of a well-bred young man, who achieved stardom by a dint of hard work and managed to remain relevant without falling to the entrapments of fame and youthful exuberance.  In him, Oyo State lost a great and humble artiste and ambassador.  We lost an individual who tried his best to positively impact on his society through entertainment.  I pray to God to grant everyone related to him, the fortitude to bear the loss”, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Welcome to #NoWahala with @theycallmeTUNE x @justbawo! Tune into Episode 42, with special guest DJ Cipha Sounds! 

In this episode, the group discuss a variety of topics with DJ Cipha Sounds, a major force behind crossing over a few African / Caribbean / American superstars into GLOBAL mainstream pop culture. (Ex. Akon, Sean Paul, Nina Sky, The Neptunes, etc).  Despite being one of the first American DJ's to break artists like Wizkid, Davido and Maleek Berry on New York radio airwaves, Cipha recently went viral and received backlash from the Nigerian community for his remarks on Wizkid's current standing in global pop culture (compared to Sean Paul/Akon in the early 2000's). His criticism for stating there currently is "no face" of "afrobeats" outside of Africa/UK didn't sit well with Nigerians.

He clears up ALL misunderstandings in this new episode (with a special guest appearance from London's own, Maleek Berry!).

Cipha Sounds is an American radio and television personality of Puerto Rican descent. He is mostly known for his work as a DJ, a VJ for MTV and as a comedian. From 2003 to 2006, Sounds was a DJ for Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show. In April 2006, he became the host of MTV's urban music video program Sucker Free. Sounds has his own artist management company called Jack Move, Inc. The first artists that he managed were the R&B duo Nina Sky in 2004, with the hit single "Move Ya Body". He has worked as an A&R executive for Rawkus Records, Tommy Boy Records, and The Neptunes' record label, Star Trak Entertainment. In 2005, he became the senior vice president of Jay-Z's Roc-La-Familia label, but he left after becoming a VJ for MTV in 2006. In 2007, Sounds started a stand-up comedy series called Don't Get Gassed, a monthly show at Carolines on Broadway (NYC),

Tolani Alli a university of Michigan graduate, started her photo-journalism journey in 2010. For someone whose job has her following and interacting with some of the most powerful and influential people in the country. Her story is nothing short of inspiring. A cancer survivor and a visionary she not only fought for her life and won, she fought for her dreams and is living it. As the personal photographer of the former governor of Oyo state, Ajibola Ajimobi, her craftsmanship and influence in the photography world continues to grow. With mentors like Kobe Bryant, it is clear to see that Tolani is no average woman. Her goal is to dominate her field. Her humility and work ethic make greatness inevitable but her skills as a photographer only show that this young star has only just begun her journey to greatness.

BILS (Built in Lagos State) is an Afropop/Afro hip-hop artist and producer born in Lagos, Nigeria. At the age of 12, BILS found his love for entertainment, influenced by Fela Kuti, Tupac, Mystikal and Kanye West. At 16, he began writing his own music and creating his own beats. He then moved to the United States to further his education. He has been nominated four times for the Nigerian Entertainment Award, performed at SXSW, opened up for most of the top African musical acts and has landed a song with international Afropop artist Olamide with only a few years in the industry under his belt.

Born Ivy Awino in the Lang’ata suburb of Nairobi, Kenya, and raised in Dallas, Texas, Ivy mastered both the piano and cello before discovering her love for yet another instrument: turntables. A bonafide sports aficionado, Poizon Ivy has managed to not only create waves for herself in the music world but also in the sports realm. She’s currently the official deejay for Skylar Diggins’ Shoot 4 The Sky Basketball Camp Tour, and the team DJ for both the Dallas Wings (WNBA) and Dallas Mavericks (NBA).  With her spirit of transcending boundaries and creating history, Poizon Ivy became the first female mixer to grace the airwaves at WKKV-FM as a V100.7 Mix Squad DJ in 2013. She’s also a contributing mixer on Nairobi’s 103.5 Homeboyz Radio. A frequent guest mixer, she has also been featured on Sirius XM’s Sway In the Morning on Shade 45 and DASH Radio to name a few. As one of the most in-demand talents in the country, she has been called on by major brands, corporations, and non-profits including Atlantic Records, Red Bull, Adidas, Mountain Dew, Ashley Stewart, and the Milwaukee Brewers. 

Poizon Ivy does not only aspire to impact those who listen to her mix, she impacts young women in various endeavors. When she’s not honing her skills, Ivy is a devoted mother, she’s advocating for various causes, working with nonprofit organizations that enable young women pursuing careers in music, mentoring young mothers, and working with organizations that aide health issues affecting young women.
