#26.1 - #DHHAN22 - Zoroarts - Makis Adventure
DreamHack is back in Hannover in 2022 (#DHHAN22). Apart from all the great eSports titles, there is also an indie area.
We had the chance to talk to Mateo Covic, solo-dev from Germany who is exhibitiing his first game Makis Adventure at the DreamHack. It´s a fun little jump and run with a twist - the player can smoothly transition between humanoid and shark form to solve small puzzles, find secets and earn money to spend on powerups and gear.
Makis Adventure is set to release on Steam on January 18th as self published title by Mateo.

#24 - Bippinbits - Dome Keeper - Rene - Germany
Dome Keeper has a lot going for it: stylish pixel art with great atmosphere, resource management, mixed with mining and exploration and a dash of tower (dome) defense and with rogue like elements. It released on Steam released 27th of September 2022. Iv had the chance to talk to indie studio Bippinbits founder and main developer René abouth the road to Dome Keeper, his passion for games development, the situation for indie devs in Germany and future plans and updates for Dome Keeper.

Vikings on Trampolines is the next big party game from the makers of the 2016 indiegame-hit Owlboy. We played a few rounds as bouncy Vikings with the guys from D-Pad Studio, Jo-Remi Madsen - CEO and Programmer - and Simon Stafsnes Andersen - CEO and Art Director - and are hooked!

#23.18 - GAMESCOM 2022 - Backwoods Entertainment - Germany
We Stay Behind is currently in development by Backwoods Entertainment. If a town is doomed in a few days, normally, everyone would leave. But the people in this game don't.
Find out, why they don't leave, interview them and get behind this mystery. Marcus Bäumer - Game Designer, Writer and Programmer at indie studio Backwoods Entertainment met us at Gamescom and talked to us about the influences on the game,
challenges and what parts of the game he´s really proud of.

#23.17 - GAMESCOM 2022 - Alambik Studio - France
Diluvian Winds was already a featured game in Episode 8. Time for us to re-visit the 2D-management-adventure game where relationships and surviving the consequences of climate change are the focus.

Lucie Robert, Lead Designer at the swiss indiestudio Naraven Games, joyfully welcomed us at their booth at Gamescom.
She told us about their upcoming game Backfirewall_ which is similar to The Stanley Parable but has it's own style and story: In this comedic-first-person-adventure, you are an update assistant inside a smartphone and you try to prevent the installation of a new OS because the old OS doesn't wanna get deleted. Never change a running system? Find out what difficulties the devs had to face and what they are really proud of.

#23.13 - GAMESCOM 2022 - Tmesis Studio - Italy
Universe for Sale is a sci-fi narrative game, set on the planet Jupiter, on which you follow a mysterious cultist who meets a vendor in a bar where she explains that she has the ability to create universes. Confused yet? We were! But this game is supposed to be cryptic and should motivate you to explore. Our interest is peeked for sure!

#23.12 - GAMESCOM 2022 - Space Lizard Studio - UK
Paper Cut Mansion is a rogue-lite horror game, in which you play a police detective, who needs to explore a creepy mansion. Being able to make paper models is already an amazing skill. Being able to use them as models for your game is even cooler. They give the game a unique look and it plays great as well.
Gabriele Caruso is a British Artist and Sound-Designer, working at Space Lizard Studio, and he's the one making the paper models!

A Keyart which raised many questions fueled the development of the cinematic-puzzle-adventure Planet of Lana, made by the Swedish studio Wishfully.

It’s the end of August and that means it's time for Gamescom! And it's back on-site in Cologne, Germany. This year the convention partnered up with Australia, so we checked out 5 Australian indies to see what they are working on.

#22 - BitNine Studio - tERRORbane - Andrea Leoni - Italy
tERRORbane was developed by the italian indie-devs of BitNine Studio – a̷n̴d̷ ̴i̵t̶’̶s̸ ̷f̴u̶l̴l̴ ̵o̵f̸ ̶e̸r̴r̵o̸r̷s̷.̷ Why do we need such a game, when there are enough buggy and glitchy games out there?!
Well, let’s check the story behind this. The story-writer of the BitNine-team, Andrea Leoni, did not only tell me their intentions but also, if players actually have fun playing a broken game. Also, find out, why their studio switched from mobile to other platforms and what the gaming industry is like in Italy.

#21 - Tag of Joy - Crowns and Pawns Kingdom of Deceit - Šarūnas Ledas - Lithuania
Today we look at the point´n click-mystery-adventure Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit which mostly takes place in Lithuania.
That east-European country shares a border with Poland, Belarus, Latvia und Kaliningrad and it’s the home country of the indie-dev-studio Tag of Joy, who made the point´n click-adventure Crowns and Pawns.
I’d got the chance t talk to one of the founders Šarūnas Ledas. He told me about why they chose point´n click, (why they worked together with a historian) and how Lithuania is like for indies.

#20.3 - INDIGO 2022 Special - Frambosa - Billy Bumbum A Cheeky Puzzler
We interviewed two more indie-developers who are presenting their games at INDIGO, an event happening in the Netherlands.
"Billy Bumbum: A Cheeky Puzzler" is being developed by the solo-dev Jonathan Barbosa Dijkstra who founded a studio called Frambosa. Finally a game with farts in it!

#20.2 - INDIGO 2022 Special - Studio Mantasaur - All Hands on Deck
INDIGO is taking place in the Netherlands - an event where indies come together to present their games and network, like "Studio Mantasaur".
They are currently working on a puzzle game called "All Hands on Deck". It's a game you can play in local co-op with a friend. Both of you play as one hand each and have to work together to solve puzzles.

#20.1 - INDIGO 2022 Special - M.I.G. Studios - What's Missing
Today we have four special episodes for you! There's a gaming event taking place in the Netherlands called INDIGO where indies gather to present their games and network.
Four dutch indies took some time before the event to talk to us.
The indie studio MIG is first in line!
I talked to the programmer Nathan Nieuwenhuizen, to the environment artist Joyce van der Zon and the character artist Kai Calis.
Their are currently working on "What's Missing" - a surreal puzzle game.

#19 - Dreihaus - Festival Tycoon - Johannes Gäbler - Austria
Today’s game is all about music – No, not Guitar Hero or Lets sing – it’s a simulator where you’ve got to plan, organize and host your own festival! It’s called “Festival Tycoon” and it’s out now for PC.
The developer of this game is Johannes Gäbler, he’s from Austria and “Festival Tycoon” is his very first game.
He designed that while still studying! How he managed to develop this management game, why he came up with the idea in the first place and what other stories he has to share, now on openindie.

What's your favorite beer? Just don't you dare to say craft beer! In the point and click adventure "Dude, Where Is My Beer?" you just want to drink a honest pilsner but everyone just wants to serve you overprized craft beer - what a nightmare!
Now the Norwegian developer Arik Zurabian wants to continue this quest with "Dude, Where Is My Beer? 2: A New Hop". He already has some ideas for the game but he just needs enough supporters on Kickstarter to get started.
In this episode we asked Arik how his second beer game will differ from the first and how he started out as an indie dev.

With their upcoming game Frank and Drake the Spanish dev studio Appnormals Team covers a story of two roommates who are as different as day and night. If one game wasn´t enough they are also developing a second game in parallel (Terracotta) that is a pixel-art action puzzle adventure. Imagine having a newsletter and over night the subscriber count jumps by almost 8000 % from 500 to 40.000. This happend to indie dev Niki Crisci (PartTimeIndie).
He is currently working on his new game School of Magic which aims to replace Diablo´s endgame grind with deck building. Still he found the time to talk to Sarah during Gamescom 2021.

A great austrian actor once said "Get your Ass to Mars". That´s exactly what the indie dev team Ironward did in their game series The Red Solstice. Hrvoje Horvatek is the CEO of this Croatian Indie Studio. At the time of the recording, Hrvoje and his team are putting on the finishing touches to their next game The Red Solstice 2: Survivors. Even though they are in the often hectic pre-release phase, Hrvoje found the time to talk to Sarah about the history of his studio, their new game and why it is a good idea to develop games in the beautiful country of Croatia.
