She did an interview right after Alex passed the New York State High School Equivalency exam, with distinction...and was accepted into an excellent 4-year college. Since then Judy has worked with over 50 students like Alex at the Mouth to Hand Learning Center, in Westchester County, NY. Judy Chinitz: Just Because He Doesn't Speak Doesn't Mean He Has Nothing to Say. 1/28/21
Judy Chinitz is the mother of two sons, one of whom has severe autism. She is well known in the autism community for her tenacity in finding many innovative biomedical and other therapies for her son Alex. It wasn't until her autistic son was 25 years old that she learned how to teach him to communicate using a letter board. The program, called Spell to Communicate, or S2C for short, was a miracle! Judy learned that all the motor impairments she had recognized in her son had prevented him -- for his entire life -- from showing that he has both normal language and exceptional intelligence. Two years later he went from nobody knowing that Alex knew the alphabet to him passing the New York State High School Equivalency exam, with distinction...and being accepted to an excellent 4-year college. Judy then opened the Mouth to Hand Learning Center, in Westchester County, NY. Daily, she brings the gift of expressive language, friendships and the joy of learning to nonspeaking autistic individuals. Listen in to her remarkable story. www.MouthtoHandTherapyCenter.com
