The Night I Fled For My Life
I was about 9 years old and in the early hours of the morning to escape my fathers violence I climbed out of my bedroom window and fled into the wintry night.
This is a story from my childhood, I am sharing this traumatic experience in the hope it helps anyone who can relate to be curious about your own trauma and continue to heal and grow from your own negative life experiences. 🙏🏼
We all have things in our childhood, I want to encourage you to go and sit with those memories that will help give you a key to your recovery and moving on.
Your life matters, and you can break generational patterns - and commit to do the work.

The 5th Season: Transition
It’s not change that stops us it’s the transition from what or who we know to something or someone we don’t know.
Change is easier if we have good transition skills and that is what I want to give you through this teaching.
In this podcast episode I share about the 3 stages from caterpillar, cocoon to butterfly. Cocoons of transition aren’t cosy and if you’re in one please remember that we fall apart to become new. In the cocoon a caterpillar liquifies, it literally has a meltdown.
We have to go through the dark to fly in the sun.
As well as share a metaphor about transition when it comes to the baby, the mother and the midwife. There's a crucial moment in childbirth called the point of transition.
It's when the baby is in the birth canal between where it's been and where it's going.
The key player is the transition coach and she's called the midwife. I hope this teaching helps you or someone you know who id going through a session of transition.

Spotting Narcissism In Yourself & Others - My 10 observations to recognise and manage it
Narcissism is all about a false self it’s a mask that people wear which slips over time and when it does you should be paying attention.
It’s the fear of appearing ordinary which drives them to exaggeration and showing off to appear extraordinary.
Don’t ever try to confront or change a narcissist it’s like trying to nail jelly to the wall. Wish them well and move away from their toxicity.
Here are my 10 signs to look out for when it comes to narcissism to avoid in others and look out for if you have them in yourself.
1. They are self obsessed, self promoting and self absorbed whilst pretending to be interested in you.
2. They brainwash you to believe that you need them in your life because their life is far superior.
3. They manipulate you into their version of you.
4. They make you question your thoughts and decisions in favour of theirs.
5. They will never respect your boundaries because they only see their own importance.
6. They don’t mind ignoring shaming minimising or isolating you to serve themselves.
7. They will Gaslight and marginalise you then encourage and praise you simultaneously in the hope you don’t spot the manipulation.
8. They use people because their agenda and priorities are always more important.
9. They need people and relationships just like the rest of us but they’re unable to see others as equals.
10. They will only want you in their world if you offer them financial security, status, support their projects or just generally stroke their ego in some way.
I love hearing from you so let me know what you thought of this episode either on social media @PaulScanlonUK or email pa@paulscanlon.com

Six Keys To Emotional Prosperity
All genuinely prosperity is rooted in the soul, but we have often not taught that well in the church.
May is mental health awareness month is USA and I want to help your mental and emotional health through this message.
We’ve got too many good pastors and leaders majoring on spiritual health who are neglecting their own mental and emotional health.
Your spiritual health does not automatically take care of your mental, emotional or physical health, that’s just not how humans work.
Hope this helps someone today, leave a comment if it does. 🙏🏼
Through this teaching I want to give you my 6 hacks to Emotional Prosperity!

The One Where...I'm An Actor?!
This vid has been weird to film because due to the NDA I signed I’ve hardly spoken about it out loud.
It still feels like my body is catching up with my mind about it all, and hearing my own voice talking to you about it was another step in realising what just happened.
I want you more than anything to lean into saying “YES” to some scary opportunity in your life right now.
You just never know where your yes will take you to in life. I was asked the other day by the guy next to me on a plane “so what do you do”? I looked at him and said for the first time ever: “I’m an actor”.., Saying it felt both crazy and somehow grounding and normal.
I owned it out loud for the first time and my imposter syndrome fell silent and I felt like an actor, because I am.
What do you need to own today?

Vulnerability Is...
Do you struggle with any of these areas in being vulnerable?

Doing things alone? Reaching out to someone? Asking for help? Sharing your creativity?
What is vulnerability to you?
In this episode I share some tips on how to experiment with vulnerability as well as some of my vulnerability. I breakdown what are the qualities to look for in people that are good to share your vulnerability with.
Vulnerability is complex and something I’ve struggled with all my life. It was a completely foreign concept in my fathers toxic masculinity parenting of us. Vulnerability is courage in you but it feels like inadequacy in me. I admire it in you but despise it in me. So in today’s show I’m trying to be vulnerable about vulnerability.
I share with you some practical tips on how you can start small in being more vulnerable with those in your world.

My Greatest Gift To You Is A Healthy Me
Your greatest gift to others is to be the healthiest version of you that you can be.I used to spend too much time working on others for me rather than working on me for them. Your personal health and well-being is the greatest gift you can give to the world.
Personal development is the hardest work you will ever do, and often the least appreciated by those close to you.
Make self improvement firstly for your own benefit then whether others notice or benefit from it at least you always will.
You can’t give away what you don’t have. You can’t sustain withdrawals others make from your life without sufficient deposits that leave you with surplus. It doesn’t work with money or love or energy or life. You can’t love your neighbour with a love you have never given to yourself.

Q: How can we avoid becoming controlling when it comes to relationship styles?
Q: What are some non-negotiable tips and boundaries that you’ve put in place when you have been growing your relationship styles as you keep reinventing yourself?
Q: How do I move past anxiety and go deeper into your relationships?

The award for best supporting role goes to...
Most of us want to live epic lives and be the hero of our own stories, but what if I told you that it’s far greater to fill a supporting role in an epic story than an epic role in a supporting story?
We all want to be top ranked leaders, but it’s better to be a great sergeant than a bad general.
In this podcast episode, I want to discuss how our impact in the world can be far greater in roles that may not look as epic as we initially envision for ourselves.

You Are Not Your Labels!
You are not your labels!
We are obsessed with labelling of both ourselves and others, so from birth we begin a life tethered to a false narrative based on those labels.
That limited level of consciousness can only be broken by self awareness.

Where Do You Love The Process?
Where you get excited about the process? Not just the outcome - the study, investigation, conversation, research - all the things that are involved in how to get a good outcome - than that is an indication of what your passions and strengths are.
If you’re struggling to figure out where you’re heading in life or what your passions and strengths are the pay attention to where you love process. We are so driven by validation through results that we assume successful outcomes is where we should look.
The secret and it is a secret because so few know it, is to look where you love the process not the results. Look at the creativity, study, planning, risk, uncertainty, struggle and effort that you love and there you will find yourself.
Look for something where you love the process and the rest will follow.

Correlation and Causation
Correlation is the connection we make between two or more things. Causation takes that a step further and decides what that connection means.
It’s human nature to lazily place unrelated things into an instant correlation without any thought to the tragic consequences that can have.
A black man jogging in a white neighbourhood is a CORRELATION, the belief that he’s a threat is then the following CAUSATION of his death.
Unless we examine our flawed correlations we will keep having flawed causes of all kinds of injustice, pain and suffering.

THE GOLDEN CALF WAS THE SIN OF CERTAINTY.
Our golden calves represent our addiction to certainty, our need to have a God that doesn’t move.
It is the sin of certainty to believe that what and how we think about God is right and others are wrong. .
Don’t confuse your faith in God with your thoughts about God, faith in God is not correct thinking about God. .
Faith is about TRUST not beliefs and we have confused trusting God with trusting our beliefs about God. Then when God behaves outside of our beliefs we have a crises of certainty.

Gift of Limitations part 2
There's two kinds of limitations: Limitations of DESIGN and limitations of DEFAULT.
The gift hidden within the limitations of design is that once you accept them they free you to work on your limitations of default. Limitations of default are things your should never accept because they are man made and man imposed.
Stop wasting your time trying to change a God given limitation that's like trying to teach a pig to sing, it's wastes your time and annoys the pig. Start using your energy to push against the limitations of default that you've allowed to wrongly define you for years.

Wisdom - Difference between emotions and feelings
We need more border control to stop incoming emotions becoming illegal feelings. Emotions are data feelings are our interpretation of that data and their needs to be gap between them.
No inner immigration control at that emotional border allows rogue feelings to move in and embed themselves into our internal society.

Disruptive Leadership - breaking good for great
For the past few ears I’ve been studying, observing and interviewing leaders and influencers from all walks of life.
I’ve been journaling and forging new insight about the kind of Leadership that I believe is already shaping the new world order.
The most progressive organisations, business and churches are that because they have DISRUPTIVE leadership at the helm.
The dictionary definition of a DISRUPTER is: someone who causes disorder and turmoil, someone who breaks the normal continuance of things.
WHO IS THIS EVENT FOR?
This event is for anyone who aspires to being a part of disrupting the ‘business as usual’ out of touch organisations that currently dominate our corporate, political, civic and spiritual landscapes.
WHAT WILL YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EVENT?
Learn the difference between truly disruptive leadership and disruptive LANGUAGE only leaderships.
The latter only appear to be open to progressive ideas as a smokescreen to hide their entrenchment to old ideas, systems and cultures.
Be empowered to discover and liberate your own disruptive leadership gift without being made to feel like a rebellious non team player.
Leave feeling like you’ve met your tribe and had a life saving blood transfusion that matches your actual disruptive blood type.
It’s going to be an intense immersive download and you will leave wanting to BREAK THE GOOD FOR THE GREAT.

Hope to see you at one of these events.

Hierarchy of the Soul part 2
There are three members of the soul MIND -EMOTIONS AND WILL. Though this is relatively common knowledge what isn’t commonly known is that the soul has a hierarchy. Every human was born with the same soul hierarchical system and in that system the MIND IS KING.
When the King is ruling then the emotions and the will serve us well but when the king is usurped by the emotions the kingdom collapses. We have not taught this well in the church and that’s resulted in believers with an over developed spirit and an impoverished soul. The human soul is a highly sensitive ecosystem and this message will help you to restore balance to that ecosystem.

If you have NO skin in the game then you’re not in the game.

Jesus was the ultimate skin in the game leader and we his church come from a long line of skin in the game believers and pioneers and martyrs.
In this age of entitlement and virtual reality skin in the game we are never more like him than when have skin in the game of humanities pain and suffering.

Diplomatic Immunity part two
On only one occasion Paul uses the term AMBASSADOR to describe the nature of his calling.
I believe that this metaphor more than any other he used gives us rare insight into how Paul was able to persevere in the face of so much personal suffering.
All ambassadors have something called DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY. This immunity is only possible because ambassadors live in one place but are resourced from another.
We are Ambassadors of heaven but we have not understood or enjoyed our diplomatic immunity. If there was ever a time to grasp this concept it’s now!

Diplomatic Immunity part one
On only one occasion Paul uses the term AMBASSADOR to describe the nature of his calling.
I believe that this metaphor more than any other he used gives us rare insight into how Paul was able to persevere in the face of so much personal suffering.
All ambassadors have something called DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY. This immunity is only possible because ambassadors live in one place but are resourced from another. We are Ambassadors of heaven but we have not understood or enjoyed our diplomatic immunity. If there was ever a time to grasp this concept it’s now!

Servant Leadership
I’m thrilled to be releasing my new SERVANT LEADERSHIP video series.
I’ve never known a time at both the macro global level and the micro daily customer service level where an issue has ever been more pervasive.
We are experiencing a global revolution against all forms of non servant leadership and i for one am happy to be a part of it.
We are sick and tired of a world that for generations has kept promoting people into leadership roles who were never servants in the first place.
You can bolt leadership onto servanthood later, but you can’t bolt servanthood onto leadership later.
We want to be led by people who lead as they would want to be led, and serve as they’d want to be served.
This video series has been a huge labour of love and it is my contribution to this massive human need that we all have of feeling appreciated and served by those who lead us.

Finding Your Peloton part 2
Peloton is a cycling term that describes the main group of riders who’s role is to escort, chaperone and bodyguard their principle rider to victory.
The PELOTON exists to surround the sprinter so that their bodies absorb the wind and reduce the drag on him. They conserve his energy at the expense of their own until the final seconds when he breaks for the finish line.
These people may not just be friends, staff or colleagues, they are strategic alliances committed to your success.
Every human needs a PELOTON we all need people physically and/or virtually who are our squad our platoon ushering us towards a winning life.
David had Jonathan and his mighty men.
Jonathan had his armour bearer.
Jesus had his apostles and Mary & Martha.
Paul had Timothy, Silas and his apostolic team.
WHO’S YOURS? … where are the people who’ve being sent to help you win?

Wisdom - Hidden Seasons
Hidden seasons are those times in your life where you can feel isolated and even invisible to others who used to notice you. Hidden seasons are times when God "hides" you as it were in order for you to press RESET on your life to prepare you for your next season.
These seasons are terrifying and not done well by most of us and so it's important for me to give you my take on them. Jesus spent 30 years hidden in plane site as preparation for just 3 years of public profile. His brilliant but short life was the result of decades spent in strategic hiding and inner development.
Maybe you're in a hidden season and if so there's three things I want you to know and understand in this video called hidden seasons.

Love is not a gift, it's a baton
LOVE IS NOT A GIFT IT’S A BATON…based on the parable of the unmerciful servant who received mercy but didn’t pass it on … once batons become owned love stops flowing…we are carriers of the baton of love, grace, mercy and forgiveness not keepers… church history has been the erratic story of a church that’s either passed the baton on or kept and warehoused it.
Nobody owns the baton
Batons can’t be handled twice
Batons can’t be dropped
Batons are passed in motion
Batons must be passed in a zone.. delayed passing like delayed love is a fail.
Selective love
Controlling love
Conditional love
Protected love
Manipulative love
Coercive love … are not valid batons.
WE ARE SERVANTS OF THE BATON and few things make God as angry as when people who’ve received his love, mercy, grace and forgiveness…don’t pass it on.

The Adjustment Bureau
The Adjustment Bureau is heavens alterations service. Sometimes the way that we interpret our lives is so inaccurate that God decides to intervene by editing our inner narrative.
The way that Joseph saw his life was recorded in the naming of his two sons MANASSEH and EPRAIM. Manasseh his first born means ‘DELIVERANCE’ and Ephraim his second born means ‘FRUITFUL’.
In other words Joseph perceived his life and journey as one where God delivered him from all his troubles which then enabled him to become fruitful. Enter JACOB ( who’d suffered all his life due to a flawed narrative) who on behalf of Gods Adjustment Bureau whilst praying his patriarchal blessing over his grandchildren suddenly CROSSES HIS HANDS. Jacob reverses the order and forever alters the narrative. Joseph had got the order wrong because as far as God was concerned it wasn’t his deliverance that made Joseph fruitful (Manasseh) but it was Joseph’s fruitfulness (Ephraim) that led to his deliverance.
FRUITFULNESS ALWAYS PRECEDES DELIVERANCE. Stop UNCROSSING GODS HANDS! ... Stop waiting for your life to improve before you can contribute, you don’t need deliverance to be fruitful your fruitfulness is your deliverance.

Blind Spots
There’s three perspectives of you, there’s what lots people know about you or we could say the PUBLIC YOU. There’s what only you know about you or the PRIVATE YOU.
Then there’s what others know about you that you don’t know about you and that’s called a BLIND SPOT.
We all have blind spots personally and corporately and this teaching analyses both their structural nature and causes. It’s not about eradication but awareness and management of our blind spots.

Who's Pushing Them In?
“YOU CAN ONLY RESCUE SO MANY DROWNING PEOPLE FROM THE RIVER BEFORE YOU HAVE TO GO UPSTREAM TO FIND OUT WHO’S PUSHING THEM IN”
(Archbishop Desmond Tutu)
This is a message about how the world is waking up to the realisation that the long term answer to humanities troubles isn’t RESCUE BUT RE-EDUCATION.
It’s: PREVENTION NOT CURE,
CAUSES NOT EFFECTS
We have to stop building organisations, businesses and churches that MAJOR on encounter and intervention and MINOR on education and prevention.

The Shibboleths That Divide Us
THE SHIBBOLETHS THAT DIVIDE US.
Shibboleths are any custom, belief, principle or even jargon and methodologies that separate us.
In the bible story where we first find the word it cost thousands of men their lives just because they couldn’t pronounce ‘shibboleth’
We live in a very divided world full of shibboleths that are still separating millions of us.

Erroneous Transfers
ERRONEOUS TRANSFER was a term I’d never heard until I called my energy supplier to complain about my consistently high electricity bill.
They told me that I was involved in an erroneous transfer with my neighbour which means that I was paying his much higher electricity bill and he was paying my lower bill. They told me that these ET’S can go undetected for years and it’s only the consumer who can detect it because as far as the energy companies are concerned everyone’s paying them so they don’t care.
It occurred to me that all of us are to some degree involved In relational erroneous transfers. Many of us are paying for someone’s else’s drama, hurt and high maintenance emotional costs.
If you feel like your life has a disproportionate amount of energy use going on then maybe someone close to you is tapping into your supply and making you pay for their high usage. It’s time we all paid our own bills 👊

Stand Up Chameleons
This message is about mastering the art of ADAPTABILITY and BLENDING IN so that we can serve and influence those who don’t share our worldview. The apostle Paul became all things to all men...
Moses blended in for years so did Esther, Joseph and Daniel. KING DAVID ‘CHAMELEONED’ himself by giving an Oscar winning performance as a MAD MAN in order to disguise himself, avoid detection and survive behind enemy lines.
Being a CHAMELEON is also about being smart and versatile enough to reinvent and reposition in order to remain relevant and achieve longevity. IF WE CAN’T CHAMELEON WE WON’T LAST ?

Leftovers - the miracle of the discarded
Following the feeding of the 5000 Jesus instructed the disciples to gather all the LEFTOVERS he was adamant that their should be no waste.
There’s always a miracle in what you don’t want, need or have too much of. Leftovers are the for those who weren’t there, weren’t included or couldn’t make it and from the moment Jesus broke the first piece of bread he was thinking about the leftovers.
So much of the church is totally spoiled we have far too much bread and instead of giving away to the hungry what we don’t need we just keep getting fatter. If just a crumb from our tables fell into some people’s lives it would be like an entire banquet to them.
There’s a miracle amongst the ‘RECYCLED’ blessings of our lives. There’s a miracle amongst the discarded people that nobody wants, and that was once maybe you that someone included. God is a God of the leftovers and we must be too!!

The Power Of Imaginary Friends
God told the 100 year old childless Abram to look up and try to count the stars because his descendants would be that numerous. Those stars became his imaginary friends, those stars were us and millions like us.
We are the only species on the planet blessed with the amazing gift of imagination and yet as we age we use it less and less. Imagination is our off ramp from today’s cruel reality.
Imagination is itself a huge act of courage and I want to share with you some of the imaginary friends who have journeyed with me and kept me company in some of my toughest seasons over the past 20 years.

Leadership - No Ox, No Achievement
Solomon tells us in the book of Proverbs that where there’s no OXEN the manger or work place is clean.
I know that’s all a bit too agricultural for most of us but metaphorically it’s still so true today.
In other words the OX is ugly, smelly, sweaty and poohs everywhere. But above all it’s PRODUCTIVE! No sweat no productivity...so don’t ever be afraid of or apologise for the ugliness of pure hard work.

Tyranny is the deliberate removal of nuance
TYRANNY IS THE DELIBERATE REMOVAL OF NUANCE. The word NUANCE is from the French word meaning ‘shades’ and in this very divided world we need to appreciate different shades more than ever. Everything has become either/or…for/against…good/bad…black/white…true/false….right/wrong…gay/straight…us/them….in/out…Brexit/remain…Republican/Democrat…guns/no guns…Palestine/Israel…etc… If you’re not convinced just try posting your shade of perspective on anything & prepare to be trolled.
The Apostle Paul writes to the very divided multicultural church in Rome who were judging each other about certain foods, holy days and rituals. He concludes that all these things are ‘DISPUTABLE MATTERS’ or subject to NUANCE and it was the deliberate removal of any allowance for nuance that created the social pressure to ‘take sides’ in the church.
He went on to teach us that in Christ there’s no Jew/gentile…male/female…slave/free… but that we are all ONE in the ‘NUANCE ALLOWING’ CHRIST JESUS Tyranny is when I control the debate and deny you any grey because I’m addicted to black or white. Nuance is the difference between allowing my first impressions to shut me down and realising there’s far more information and perspective here that I would benefit from knowing. Do you like GREEN? .. if so which one?
There are over 500 official shades of green. But that becomes over one MILLION when you factor in how we each perceive colours differently through our own unique photoreceptors (remember that internet dress?) We go to war over ‘green’ not realising that we actually all love green, just different shades. There is no right or wrong GREEN! God so loved the world that he didn’t create one shade of anything. Lets not build lives or churches that deliberately remove nuance…it’s a TYRANNY.

Wisdom - They Devoted Themselves
If you could take an early church believer and put them into today’s church they’d be shocked at what most leaders spend their time doing. The book of Acts tells us that the early church DEVOTED THEMSELVES (Acts 2:42) to personal growth and community service.
The reason the church exploded so quickly was because the devotion to God and humanity came from the grassroots up, not the top down. In Acts the leaders were free to lead because they weren’t worn out trying to persuade and remind people to be in church pray, give and serve. You cannot manufacture or sustain another persons devotion.
If you do they will expect it and your ministry becomes one of BORROWED DEVOTION and manufactured energy. PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS... ( Especially you younger pastors) I really want you to understand something that became a massive game changer in my leadership🙏🏼

Left handed leadership in a right handed world
Left handed leadership in a right handed world is about what the 90% right handed world can learn from the 10% left handers. Left handers despite their tiny minority have had a massive effect on human history.
Militarily, architecturally, musically and in sports, politics and the highest levels of leadership south paws have had a huge disproportionate influence on mankind’s evolution. This message looks into the neuroscience of how the brain is cross wired and the implications of that for right handed left brain people vs left handed right brain people.
It’s another subject who’s time has come because the world has already entered a whole new era which is replacing the Information Age and this new world order favours left handers who are right brain dominant.
I want to speak to our right handed world about the need for us to develop more right brain skills in order for us to flourish in this new era.

Leadership - Struggles & Strength
IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND MY STRUGGLE YOU WILL MISUNDERSTAND MY STRENGTH
A persons strength is governed by the struggle they're in. Because we are more aware of the strength than we are of the struggle behind it we often misread them. If you can't find out more about someone's struggle than don't be quick to miss judge the strength they must have to survive that struggle.

Bricks Without Straw
he difference between liberation and freedom is an enemy not a friend. Friends create comfort but enemies create movement. Without an enemy your present is permanent.
God used Pharaoh and the bricks without straw scenario to force movement amongst a people who had become attached to an enemy they thought couldn’t get any worse.
The problem wasn’t ‘Let my people go’ it was WILL MY PEOPLE LET GO? Liberation often requires an irritation for it to become freedom and a bricks without straw situation will always do the job.

Wisdom - Prison run by friends
Maybe you keep choosing to live in jail but don’t realise it. You don’t realise it because you feel ‘free’ in the company of friendly jailers.
It feels safer living inside the cell of certain people’s acceptance and approvals, than it does to break out and risk their rejection. I pray that you will find the courage to leave your ‘friends’ prison because a smiling jailer is still your enemy.

Step Out of Stuck
STEP OUT OF STUCK based on the encounter Jesus had with the severely disabled man waiting for a miracle at the pool of Bethesda in John 5. This poor man was not only paralysed and stuck physically but also mentally emotionally and relationally. He was STUCK because he had spent decades at Bethesda, a place that was rigged for failure and disappointment.
I’m using BETHESDA as a metaphor for anytime you’ve got stuck in your life. Bethesda can be any place, person or situation that promises breakthrough whilst locking you into a system, structure and culture that denies your breakthrough.
BETHESDA is a place of highly organised failure and systemic disappointment. Many people are stuck in life by their highly organised fear, guilt, shame, anger, regret and failure. This severely disabled man waiting for a miracle at Bethesda didn’t realise that his miracle would be in leaving Bethesda the problem WAS Bethesda.
Jesus told him to STEP OUT OF STUCK.. leave the system and go home and millions of us need to do the same. Don’t keep surrendering your life to other people’s Bethesda’s and leaders stop creating Bethesda churches and organisations.

Wisdom - Keep 2% of you back
John tells us that Jesus wouldn’t entrust himself to people because he knew what people were like. (John 2v24)
I call this always keeping a little 2% of you back that you never give to another person. A piece of you that you never entrust to anyone but God.
That 2% is the management of your expectations about humans. It’s for your personal Gethsemane’s when they will let you down.
It’s for the crosses that you must face alone.
This 2% could be the difference between fulfilling your destiny and quitting because of who quit on you.
KEEP 2% IN RESERVE 🙏🏼

Transition Generation
A ‘Transition Generation’ is one who has to be the bridge of continuity between the past and future. In any war the enemy always targets the bridges first because bridges connect, supply and bring together. The greatest transition generation of all time the children of Israel have a few priceless lessons to teach all future transition generations.

Don't Despise the Day of Small Beginnings
God told Zachariah not to despise small beginnings, because small, fragile, unstable, and unsupported beginnings can be so despicable.
If God warns us not to despise our beginning it’s because he knows something about beginnings that we don’t. He knows that hidden within the hardship of beginnings are things you can never learn in middles or endings and that despising robs us of discovering them. What you despise can’t grow you and the unique growth carefully concealed within our beginnings is too precious to surrender to the pain that results in a despising attitude.
The preparation for all your endings and outcomes Is hidden in your despicable beginnings. All the beautiful OMEGAS destined for your life are embedded in the loneliness of your ugly ALPHAS.

Leadership - Strategic Quitting
Winners keep winning because they regularly quit.
The difference between quitters and winners isn’t that one quits and the others don’t, it’s that winners quit strategically not reactionary.

The Agony of Divine Delay
This message is for anyone living in the agonising delay between tragedy striking and God intervening. It’s about the times in our lives when God seems absent, invisible, deaf, silent and indifferent to our pain and suffering. Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Job and Jeremiah to name but a few have all endured the pain of apparent “PASSIVE OMNIPOTENCE” so you’re in good company.
This message is not for the faint hearted nor is it for those whose God is too fragile to be questioned or criticised by humanity. Are you or is someone you know living in THE AGONY OF DIVINE DELAY… if so this for you.

Acceptance Precedes Change
This was ‘THE’ defining issue in the early church and in my opinion it’s still a huge issue for us. God accepts us without first requiring any change from us, because his acceptance can’t be earned, it’s a grace gift.
We however have behaved as if acceptance belongs to us and we can charge people what we want for it. Acceptance precedes change and that is and always will be the at the heart of the gospel!
We gotta stop charging people for what we freely received!

Wisdom - Fan Clubs & Fight Clubs
Recently I was in a community centre and the complex and contradictory range of groups listed in the lobby who used the venue was vast and reminded me of something I once heard @bishopjakes say about the mixture in us humans.
They had everything from FAN clubs to FIGHT clubs holding events there, but it occurred to me that non of these users owned or defined the venue.
It got me thinking about the range of things that can be in all our lives simultaneously, and yet non of them are truly who we are.
Our lives can be host to a whole range of opposing thoughts, emotions, motives and other ‘renters’ without any one of them being able to lay claim to our true identity. .
Don’t allow the presence of fan or fight clubs in you to define you, just keep evolving and growing until you’ve reached a place of a perhaps more exclusive cliental. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Cathedrals took over 200 years to build. The cathedral in your heart is about committing to dreams and visions that we know we will never live to see finished.

Wisdom - Jesus was not a Christian
What we call Christianity was created by people not God.
Jesus is bigger than Christianity, he’s not a joiner of groups or the head of a denomination. He’s not a fan of religion which Christianity has often been reduced to.
All forms of tribalism were created by us including denominationalism.
I’m a Christian but that doesn’t define me or Jesus or you.
I love and follow Jesus but often Christianity tells me how, where and when to do that like an instruction manual for an object I bought.
Let’s not reduce Jesus to our Christian tribe or any tribe. If Jesus has a group it’s the humanity group.
The cross was not for the church, it was for the world.

Image of Self - part 3
We were all created in the image of God; therefore God has a self image. We are like God and God is like us. Often our self image is unrealistic, we think ourselves capable of or ready for something we aren’t.
Like Peter promising he would never forsake Jesus, then denied him three times; we too can have an unrealistic self image. The great news is that grace holds us between images, between where we are and where we want to be.
This teaching also deals with our need for self awareness in discovering our unique God given personality type.

Leadership - Changed focus
Be intentional about endings because a weak finish can hinder a strong start. Endings don’t have to be pretty or tidy some are like tying down a tent rope in a storm at night.
The environment is often too hostile and you don’t have the the luxury of lots of time or light to do a neat job on the ropes. Tie things up best you can and move on.

Excellence - Q&A Interview
Excellence is the Cinderella of Church life.
One of my greatest challenges as a pastor here in the north of England was to create a culture of excellence in everything we did.
Having seen so many churches being run by the two ugly step sisters of ‘it’ll do’ and ‘good enough’ I was determined to at least attempt to build a place of excellence despite being volunteer dependent and having no corporate leverage.
In fact the only excellence that counts is voluntary excellence ie excellence that comes from within not from some external coercion.
It’s time we brought Cinderella from below stairs and kicked out her ugly sisters.

Communication - Q&A interview
In this interview Tom and I speak on the topic of Communication, for all communication fields from public speaking, one on one, small groups, to social media etc.
Here are some of the questions we chat about.
Since you have stopped pastoring, what are some of the challenges you have faced in your communication style? If "connection is the holy grail of communication" how do you achieve that connection? At what point did you and how did you come to the understanding of growing people and not things? How has your current emphasis on servant leadership affected your communication style? How big of an impact does authenticity have in leadership? Is there a starting point to a leader finding their authenticity and then communicating from that? How do you use a social media platform to communicate well? How important is is how you say something? What is the win for you as a communicator?Thank you for listening to the Growing Big People with Paul Scanlon podcast, we want to hear from you so please keep in touch with us and share your thoughts on this episode with Paul on his social media - @PaulScanlonuk

We talk about developing a relationship with yourself, learning to live from the inside out rather than from outside in.
