The Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery is the dean of Duke University Chapel and associate professor of homiletics at Duke Divinity School. A national leader in the theological study of the art of preaching, Powery regularly delivers sermons at Duke Chapel as well as at churches throughout the United States and abroad. He is often a keynote speaker and lecturer at educational institutions, conferences, symposia, and retreats.
His teaching and research interests are located at the intersection of preaching, worship, pneumatology, and culture, particularly expressions of the African diaspora. He is the author of Spirit Speech: Lament and Celebration in Preaching; Dem Dry Bones: Preaching, Death, and Hope; Rise Up, Shepherd! Advent Reflections on the Spirituals; and Were You There? Lenten Reflections on the Spirituals. He has co-authored an introductory textbook on preaching, Ways of the Word: Learning to Preach for Your Time and Place. He is also a general editor of the nine-volume lectionary commentary series for preaching and worship titled Connections: A Lectionary Commentary for Preaching and Worship.

Episode 119: PROFESSOR DOUGLAS CAMPBELL
Professor Douglas Campbell was born in London but raised a New Zealander. He did his undergraduate degree in Political Philosophy at the University of Otago in New Zealand, and his graduate degrees in Religious Studies at the University of Toronto in Canada, where he was supported by a Commonwealth Scholarship. He is currently teaching at Duke Divinity School, where he is now a Professor of New Testament and directs the Prison Studies program. Since arriving at Duke in 2003 he has published five books on the apostle Paul. Douglas has two adult children, and is a keen supporter of the arts, as his wife, Rachel, is a painter. He loves the warm weather of North Carolina, and currently lives in downtown Durham with two cats, a dog, and his wife's chickens. Despite qualms in terms of a Christian virtue ethic, he remains passionate about international politics and international rugby.
Today we talk about the state of The Church as a whole, the Apostle Paul, interpretation of the bible and much more!

Episode 118: BISHOP MANDE MUYOMBO
Bishop Mande Muyombo was elected to the episcopacy in 2017. He is the Resident Bishop of the North Katanga Area, which includes North Katanga, Tanganyika and Tanzania conferences in the Congo Central Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Bishop Muyombo joins us in studio this week to talk UMC issues and how we need to revive, renew and reclaim who we have always been as United Methodists.

Episode 117: THE ASBURY REVIVAL
Today we are joined by Keith Cowart. Bishop Cowart is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and Asbury Seminary for the M.Div. and D.Min. degrees. He and his wife Pam, who is also a graduate of the Seminary, have two adult sons. In 1997 Keith planted Christ Community Church in Columbus, Georgia, where he served for 21 years as lead pastor. Christ Community planted or played a major role in planting four other churches and sent out more than 35 men and women to serve as pastors, parachurch ministry directors, military chaplains and missionaries around the world.
Today we talk about the Asbury Revival. Keith was able to spend a few days at Asbury while the revival was taking place and talks about his experience.

In 2018, Dr. Levenson officiated and preached at the Memorial Service at St. Martin’s for the late First Lady of the United States, Barbara Pierce Bush. Later, in 2018, he co-officiated and preached at the State Funeral for our 41st President, The Honorable George H.W. Bush at both Washington National Cathedral and the Houston-based memorial service held at St. Martin’s. President and Mrs. Bush were active members at St. Martin’s for over fifty years and served in many roles of leadership and ministry.

Cynthia Fierro Harvey served as bishop of the Louisiana Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, having been assigned there in September of 2012. The Louisiana Annual Conference is composed of 486 congregations and 118,725 members and includes the entire state of Louisiana.
Bishop Harvey was recently appointed as the Bishop for the Texas Annual Conference. Today we discuss her hopes for the future, how she became a bishop, how it feels coming back to Houston and the process of appointing Bishops.

A bishop in the United Methodist Church, Professor Willimon served as the dean of Duke Chapel and professor of Christian ministry at Duke University for 20 years. He returned to Duke after serving as the bishop of the North Alabama Conference from 2004 to 2012. He has taught in Germany, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia in various seminaries. He is a trustee of Wofford College, Emory University, and serves on the Dean’s Committee of Yale Divinity School. Willimon is the author of over 70 books. His Worship as Pastoral Care was selected as one of the 10 most useful books for pastors in 1979 by the Academy of Parish Clergy. More than a million copies of his books have been sold. His articles have appeared in many publications including Theology Today, Interpretation, Liturgy, and Christianity Today. He is editor-at-large for The Christian Century. His book Pastor: the Theology and Practice of Ordained Leadership is used in dozens of seminaries in the United States and Asia.

This week we are joined by Matthew Marchetti. Matthew is the Co-Founder of CrowdSource Rescue. CrowdSource Rescue is technology platform developed in Hurricane Harvey to help organize civilian water rescues. Since Harvey, the platform helped rescue nearly 43,000 people by connecting them to 15,000 civilian rescuers. Our mission is simple: provide a platform to help organize spontaneous volunteers and empower them to connect with more survivors after a major disaster.
Today we talk about how CrowdSource Rescue began and the resources that the organization continues to provide for those suffering from natural disasters.
