Everyone works together with the person who is dying, the caregiver, and/or the family to provide the medical, emotional, and spiritual support needed." However, research shows that WILLPOWER is a better predictor of success than IQ. This episode explores 3-4 steps you can take to grow your Willpower toward what you want to succeed at." Candace discussed the topic of willpower and its significance in achieving goals. She referred to resources including a book by Roy Balmaster and work from psychologist Walter Mischel. Candace explained the marshmallow test conducted by Mischel, which showed that children who were able to resist eating a single marshmallow immediately were more successful later in life. She also mentioned that low glucose levels could make it harder to resist immediate gratification. Balmaster states, “Once a good habit is in place, Baumeister says, you'll no longer need to draw on your willpower to maintain the behavior. Eventually healthy habits will become routine and won't require making decisions at all. Many questions about the nature of self-control remain to be answered by further research.” Karen identified she incorporates her habits into her daily routine those include eating healthy as well as exercising. However, she reminds the listeners she is human, and she slips occasionally. If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at 440 525 1530

Doug expressed his concern about people becoming dependent on Medicaid for nursing home care and suggested that more effort should be made to provide equitable support for those who wish to receive care in their own homes. He also pointed out the issue of varying state reimbursement rates for Medicaid, which can affect the quality of caregivers. Doug mentioned a bill that had initially been miscalculated by the Congressional Budget Office, leading to incorrect cost estimates. He emphasized the need for thorough consideration of how funds are allocated for different care options. Doug discussed the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and enhance care for the elderly. He mentioned the use of AI in smart homes to detect patterns and potential risks, such as falls. Also he highlighted the importance of combining AI with human touch for optimal care. Karen agreed with Doug's points, noting the potential benefits of AI, especially in addressing the caregiver shortage. Doug and Karen discussed the looming caregiver shortages and low birth rates, which Doug believes will lead to significant problems in the future. They also touched on the cultural shift towards choosing to be single, which could result in fewer available caregivers. They also recognized the trend of parents growing older without their children nearby, which could exacerbate the caregiver shortage. Doug discussed the trend of company consolidation in their industry and expressed concerns about its potential negative impact on the quality of care. Doug emphasized the importance of maintaining a care-centered approach as their company expands, prioritizing it over profit. Both agreed on the importance of local needs and cultural differences in determining the success of hospital chains. Doug warned against overly corporatizing the systems and advocated for adaptable systems that maintain a personal touch. The importance of home care services was talked about. After being honorably discharged from the US Navy, in 2007, with service-connected disabilities, Ben continued his long-time relationship with cannabis, and made every effort to incorporate its benefits into his own health and recovery journey. We'll touch on Carol Dweck's research as well as the work of John Maxwell and others to identify key skills we can develop to be good at failing. John Maxwell states, "It is part of the road to success. Failure is life's greatest teacher. It builds your character and humbles you. Failure is suspended success until the right moment, but in the meantime, you must work hard, think hard and be consistent." https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Right-Kind-of-Wrong/Amy-C-Edmondson/9781982195069 https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/failure-found-to-be-an-essential-prerequisite-for-success/ Carol Dweck coined the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement. Early childhood marriage occurs around the world even in the United States. “Child marriage refers to any formal marriage or informal union between a child under the age of 18 and an adult or another child. Despite a steady decline in this harmful practice over the past decade, child marriage remains widespread, with approximately one in five girls married in childhood across the globe. Our guest Katherine Cleland is passionate when it comes to this topic. She is meeting this challenge working alongside Zonta International to put an end to this practice. Katherine Cleland is the retired owner of her own marketing consulting firm, and she has been a small business advisor and mentor to women owned startups, helping them start and thrive. She has spent the past 20 years, in her “free time”, volunteering and working on behalf of building better lives for Women and Girls. Theory # 53 Strike While the Iron’s Hot This theory started out to be something completely different than what it ended up being. So, short story long, let me explain. Last Friday, I’m driving home from work, and listening to this talk radio show. They were making comments about a young woman on Tik Tok who was explaining that the reason she couldn’t show up to work on time was because of something called “Time Blindness”. She continued to say that this was a very serious illness and that employers should take into consideration those who suffer from this affliction. Then she went on, blah, blah, blah, it’s not my fault, I can’t help myself, everybody should accommodate me, blah, blah, blah. I almost slammed into the guy ahead of me, partly from laughing, partly from rage. But I realized right then and there that this was my definitely next theory. So, the weekend goes by and I eventually gather my thoughts, jot down some notes, and then look up the actual post of this person just to get my quotes straight. Unfortunately, what I find is myriad opinions about her and her Time Blindness crapola. “Every phone has an alarm clock, just leave a few minutes earlier in case there’s traffic, etc…” Now let me just say this – in all of the 50+ theories I’ve written I ‘ve never taken anybody else’s work without crediting them. My ideas are my own, even if someone, somewhere, has at one point opined the same thing. But in this case, the more I investigated the topic, the more opinions I heard, and the more they somewhat mirrored my own, and pretty soon I couldn’t tell mine from theirs. Before long I realized that it just wasn’t going to happen. A day or so later, I come across Neil Tyson de Gras, and he was talking about kids in high school and college who complain about having to learn math and science when they are never going to use it in ‘’real life” (as if they have any clue as to what real life is). I instantly thought to myself, I can’t believe this is happening again. A couple years ago I started writing a theory about exactly this, but never finished it. The man went on to say that you’re actually not in school to learn math or physics or history, per se. You’re in school to train your brain to problem solve. Solving math problems forces your brain to work a certain way to come up with the answer. The same with History with respect to memorization and science in terms of picturing the problem you’re trying to solve. Almost word for word the things I brought up a few years back. The only thing different was that didn’t use the tag line I came up to sum up the topic. “You’re not in school to learn different subjects, you there to learn how to learn.” But the bottom line was that someone beat me to the punch again! https://newclevelandradio.net/listening-links/thoughts-theories-and-queries-steve-valdez/

She began volunteering with Geauga Mamas in January 2019 as a foster. She quickly became a transporter and actively involved in getting puppies adopted. Recently, this year, she became a board member. Geauga Mama Dogs and Pups was started 12 years ago by Karen Braun, out of her barn, helping local rescues care for pregnant moms, moms with litters and abandoned litters. We have approximately 300 members that volunteer in various ways. Our group consists of many women, and some husbands, that foster, welp puppies, feed bottle babies, transport, marketing, bookkeeping, etc. The group has grown in the past years in number of volunteers, number of mamas and pups rescued, and area of shelters, APLs and Humane societies we help and that help us across Ohio and into W. VA and KY. They rely strictly on donations. This year we have a Bookkeeper who contacted us to help us with grant writing. Hopefully that will yield much needed funds for food, vet bills, and medications. Lori has assisted in over 20 large fundraisers over the past 30 years,so she decided to undertake the first fundraiser on a large scale, set for Friday Sep. 29th. https://www.facebook.com/GeaugaMamaDogsAndPups/ https://www.facebook.com/melindasmithhearmojo

Heart Mojo with Melinda Smith with guest Jane Austin_Zonta_Climate Change 72723
Please subscribe to our youtube page to receive notices on all new podcasts as well helping us grow our audience. https://www.youtube.com/c/NewClevelandRadio If you would like to be a podcast host or guest please contact Karen at newclevelandradio@gmail.com Melinda continues her conversation with Zonta Members, today Jane Austin is her guest discussing Climate Change and the effects it has on (specifically women) who are often left to resolve issues in their community when a disaster happens and Climate Change is causing disruptions in our eco system - someone must step in to protect Mother Nature. Jane Austin has been a member of Zonta International, a global organization of professionals working to build a better world for women and girls, since 1999. A member of the Zonta Club of Minneapolis St Paul Area, she currently serves as Lieutenant Governor for Zonta’s District 7 and previously was district advocacy chair and representative to Zonta’s USA Caucus. Jane’s interest and concerns about climate change are founded in her work as a research wildlife biologist, investigating waterbirds and their habitats. Now semi-retired, she works with a diverse team of Zontians from across the US and the world to help us better understand the implications of climate change for women and girls and learn ways to take action to create a sustainable world. Zonta International joined with the United Nations in 2021 in recognizing how climate change magnifies existing inequalities faced by women and girls around the world. Climate change, environmental degradation and more frequent and intense disasters often result in loss of homes and livelihoods, water scarcity, destruction and damage to schools, health facilities, and transportation systems, and the displacement of women and girls and their families and communities. Women and girls face specific challenges including increased risk of violence, reduced access to employment, education, and health care, and health risks – even in North America. The “Zonta Says Now” campaign compliments and amplifies Zonta’s core mission to narrow the gender gap and reduce violence against women. In the US, we are raising awareness on the different ways climate is affecting our communities and in turn how it affects women and girls, and providing tools for clubs and individuals to take action.
