Bruce Nesmith started his career as a programmer, and game designer, creating materials for Dungeons and Dragons, Marvel Superheros products, Gamma World supplements and board games. He moved on from his career at TSR, Inc and to Bethesda Softworks, where he worked on Elder Scrolls and Fallout games, and he held the role of lead designer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Bruce has moved on from the gaming world, turning back to writing full time.  He joins me today on The Power to Pivot Podcast to discuss The Loki Redeemed Trilogy, an epic journey of Loki’s redemption.

David is currently working on the movie Made With Love, a heartwarming story starring his friend Jay Thomas Carr, an actor with Down syndrome. David overcame many obstacles to make his first feature film, ELVIS’ GRAVE, and he did so when he was just 23 years old. He was the second person to make a homegrown film in his home state of Alabama, and the youngest at the time. David spent most of his career in sales and marketing, but God called him back into filmmaking three years ago.

Gloria Miller was born in New York City. Her family heritage is Italian and Latvian. As far back as her memory serves, she began her connection (obsession) with Scotland. In the late 1960's she fell into her hippie mode of life and 'hit the road' with two friends and hitchhiked from New York to San Francisco. After the death of her husband, she settled back in New Jersey to raise her daughter. There was a wee bit of job switching from Photographing rock bands, to secretarial duties at Law Firms, Wall Street, and Real Estate. She travelled several times to Scotland, because her soul demanded she do so. After winning a battle with cancer she decided to retire. She now lives in Pennsylvania with her two fur babies, David and Nigel. Keeping busy writing her books, riding her bike, and selling metaphysical items at her store Dagawom (Dragons And Gargoyles And Witches Oh My) in Carbondale, Pa.

Gloria joins us on the show today to talk about her books - Chronicles of a Time Thief, My Favorite Demon, and Rainbows End, as well as her store Dagawom, located in Carbondale, PA.

Why be boring when you can live your life being free? 

I absolutely love this question, this statement, and I first read it on the Instagram page for author Hannah Louise Smith.  Hannah is joining me on the show today to talk about her books from The Mythics and Mortal trilogy, and we talk about writing, the creative process, and how to avoid being scammed in the self-publishing industry. 

This is an important call out.  Self-publishing is not a new concept, but every day it seems that, more and more offers are popping up with the intent to take advantage of self-published creatives.  Hannah is sharing one of her own experiences on the show today, and it is a great reminder to make sure you are doing research before signing up with any specific service.  If it doesn't feel right, if something feels "off" about the claims they make, it could potentially be a scam.  

I know as an author, it can be easy to get excited and want to share the work out there.  Remember, though, it is okay to ask questions. It is okay to tell them you will get back to them, and it is okay to need a minute before you make a decision.

What does it feel like to take time to stop, breathe, and reset?  Is this part of your regular, daily practice, or something that you struggle with? For me, I know this is something that I find myself battling myself on - finding those moments when, I know in my heart that I am being called to sit and rest, and have patience, but my mind is telling me to keep pushing on.  

It has taken me a long time to recognize some of my own patterns that were keeping me stuck in a cycle of feeling rundown, hopeless, and lost.  And, honestly, I am still figuring some of them out. Ultimately, though, I know in the times when I let myself take the step back, had some patience, and gave all of the fear and worry over to something bigger and greater than myself, I could find peace, and rest, and was able to figure out the next steps that much sooner.  

It's important to remember that sometimes, slowing down is the best way to speed up, and this is something that I am talking about today on the show. I am joined by Actor Matthew Gross of the upcoming Christian family comedy series Save Point, and we are diving into a discussion that started with acting, and landed us talking about timing, miracles, and connection. 

Matt shares his experience through his audition for Save Point, and opens up about some of the major lessons he has learned to help him keep the faith.

Welcome to 2023 and our very first episode of The Power to Pivot Podcast for this yew  year.  I don't know about you, but this year sounds like absolute magic. 2023 has a great sounding vibe and energy to it, and with everything that the world has been through in the last few years, let's face it - it's time we all called in some high vibes and got life moving again.  And this is why I am so excited for today's guest! I am talking with Actor and Creator Dante Donaldson, part of the cast of the upcoming Christian family comedy series Save Point.  

Dante and I are talking about his journey to fitness and spirituality, and something that has been coming up for me a lot lately - this idea of fellowship - togetherness - community.  If I learned nothing else during Covid, the one thing that was highlighted most was how much we need one another.  When things are good. Or bad. When you need a shoulder to cry and lean on.  Or, to take it back to the good ole days and you just needed a cup of sugar from your neighbor - we are social beings, and, let's face it - life is a lot more fun with good people around you to enjoy it with.

Dante and I discuss the importance of community, and of course, he talks about being on the cast of Save Point. 

This episode is perfect for being the first one of the new year - the theme of "moving forward" continued to come up, and this year is definitey our year - all of our years - to pivot and move forward in our lives.

Coming up today on The Power to Pivot Podcast, I am joined by creator Josh Cox, founder of Bezalel Films and creator of the Christian family comedy series Save Point.  Josh is giving us a sneak peak into the world of Save Point, and we talk about fear, the debate between Christianity and science, and surrendering to the outcome.

I know personally, I always find it amazing when I have those moments where I want to control the outcome of a situation or project, and it is in those times that I have to remind myself to pivot, to take a deep breath and let go, and when I do, there is this release of so much pressure and I can actually enjoy the journey.

This episode is actually a perfect example of this.  Josh and I recorded an episode together a few weeks ago, and when I went into the editing room, there were some issues with the audio, and we had to re-record. I could have sat back and got upset and angry and frustrated, and given up, and Josh could certainly have as well.   Instead, we both took that as a trial run, and showed back up for a second run.  And this time, we both agreed, in many ways it was so much better than the first.

It’s a reminder that we always have a choice in how we look at a situation, and while things can often be scary, we don’t have to stay in that fear.

We also talk about doing the work, and how, when we let ourselves take the journey, no matter what it is that we are working on, and stop focusing on the outcome, we grow and evolve and change.  It's that personal evolution that makes the process so much more rewarding.
