Good morning, folks I haven’t done one of these videos in a really long time. I want to expand on something I was listening to on the radio earlier. It was a child psychologist that runs one of the clinics here in Louisville and he was talking about how we coddle our kids and how that affects them in later life.

When they are small folks worry, they are afraid the kid is going to fall and get hurt. Well that is a natural response as a parent but then they start getting into grade school some parents are so fixated on worry about them failing in grade school they do everything they can to not let them fail. To shield them from it. In some schools they have gone as far as eliminating bad grades.

And it goes on to sports where no one keeps score. Then middle school and high school. Some parents are so adamant that it's not their kid getting the bad grade. Demanding something be done to change that grade because my kid won’t get into college.

Failures are not allowed. We are taught that we are not allowed to fail. You can't fail. You have to succeed at all costs.

That's the message we keep giving and we coddle them. We don't let them fail. They don't learn to fail.

Then you wonder why, when they grow up they act the way they do. That they are entitled to success. Entitled to get what they want and if they don't get it then it is not fair.

Failure is part of success.

One can't have success without failure.

'Alarming' New Data on Disordered Sleep After COVID 

More than two thirds of patients (67.2%) reported at least moderate fatigue, while 21.8% reported severe fatigue, Pena reported. In addition, 41.3% reported at least moderate sleep disturbances, while 8% of patients reported severe sleep disturbances, including insomnia, "which may impair quality of life," Pena said. Obesity, mood disorders, and Black race emerged as contributors to problems with sleep and fatigue after COVID. Notably, after adjusting for demographics, Black race conferred threefold higher odds of moderate to severe sleep disturbances. "We know that people who have had COVID have more trouble sleeping afterwards. There is the COVID insomnia created in all of us just out of our worries, fears, isolation, and stress. And then there's an actual impact of having the infection itself on worsening sleep," said Benca, with Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Winston-Salem, North Carolina  

Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Reduce Blood Pressure 

An omega-3 fatty acid daily intake of approximately 3 grams, either in the form of supplements or food, may reduce blood pressure, a new meta-analysis suggests. The findings showed a substantial reduction in diastolic and systolic blood pressure when individuals consumed a moderate amount of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) plus docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) combined, in doses of 2 to 3 grams per day. This association for systolic blood pressure was slightly more marked in study groups with a mean age of 45 years or older, reported Xin Zhang, PhD, of Macau University of Science and Technology in Taipa, China, and colleagues. The results were published online June 1 in the Journal of the American Heart Association.  

High Fructose Intake May Trigger Fatty Liver Disease 

Adding drinks with a high fructose content to a diet that already includes high fat content can accelerate the chances of fatty liver disease, according to scientists at the University of Barcelona. What to know: 

• A high intake of fructose may increase the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, in which too much fat is stored in liver cells.
• High-fructose corn syrup is one of the most common sweeteners in the food industry and is used despite scientific evidence that it is associated with metabolic disorders that are risk factors of cardiovascular disease.
• Consuming a high-fructose diet for long periods can lead to a deterioration of the layer of cells that creates the intestinal barrier that prevents bacteria and toxins from leaking into the bloodstream and affecting the liver.
• Fatty liver disease can lead to liver inflammation and liver damage, resulting in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a more aggressive disease that in turn can progress to scarring of the liver (cirrhosis), liver cancer, and liver failure.
• Severe fatty liver disease and liver tumors from the gut barrier deterioration created by excessive fructose intake can be prevented with medications.

What you think about you bring about. How are you guiding your inner self?  

If you are not consciously driving, important word there - consciously. If you are not consciously driving the direction of your thoughts; consciously thinking about what it is you want in your life, left to your own devices it's going to be negative.  The media is using the "power of suggestion" quite well to make people afraid. To imbed these seeds, these thoughts into your brain so you are thinking negatively. You have to consciously and purposely choose what you are thinking about. What you are fixated on. What you are focused on. 

To get to the next level you have to focus, to focus on what you want.  

If you are frustrated. Going through tough times. Experiencing scarcity, challenges, it is so important for you to focus on the present. The evidence in front of you. The evidence that is a result of what you have been thinking about in the past. The evidence that has manifested in your life today.  

Change what you think. What you are fixated on. Things will start to change as evidence in front of you.  What is that big thing you are wanting to happen for you?

“Those who are wise won’t be too busy, and those who are too busy can’t be wise.” – Lin Yutang

“I am so busy.”

It’s a simple, common, four-word sentence.

And with the increase in demands professionally, massive increases technologically, and intense strains on our time personally, it’s a sentence the vast majority of us use with great frequency.

We use it when speaking with colleagues to show our importance: “Things are going extremely well for me…I am so busy.”

We use it when there is some task, job, or duty we’d rather not do: “Sorry. Can’t help with that…I am so busy.”

And we use it to describe our yesterday…tomorrow…weekends…and life: BUSY.

In the journey through life, though, it’s important to keep in mind the goal should never be mere busyness.

Being busy robs us of full productivity. We all have aspects of these four characteristics within us. They steal our time, energy, ideas, satisfaction and potential to truly live inspired. They negatively impact our relationships, our health and our bottom line.

Now the obvious answers would be hard work, persistence and preparation but most folks actually are hard workers. And many folks have the great attribute of being seekers, on the lookout for something better. So what were they missing?

I always thought opportunities and success were something you went after. Then I found out that I needed to turn it around. Opportunities and success are not something you go after necessarily but something you attract by becoming an attractive person.  

If you can develop your skills, keep refining all the parts of your character and yourself, your health, your relationships so that you become an attractive person—you’ll attract opportunity. Opportunity will probably seek you out. Your reputation will probably precede you and someone will want to do business with you. 

The key is to continue making yourself a more attractive person by the skills you have, the disciplines you have, the personality you’ve acquired, the character and reputation you have established, the language and speech you use—all of that refinement makes you more attractive.

So how Do You Attract Opportunity Into Your Life? By attracting opportunity to you by becoming a more attractive person.  Personal development is the never-ending chance to improve not only yourself but also to attract opportunities and to affect others.

There are more than two million cat videos on YouTube. People have watched these videos more than 25 billion times, which equates to an average of 12,000 views per cat video.  Hours are spent on YouTube with mind numbing activities like this. We've come to a point where we are constantly distracted.

Maybe it is because we aren't happy with our job, it doesn't satisfy us or challenge us any more or pay us what we're worth. Maybe its because we don't feel appreciated at work. Maybe it is because the average American now has about $38,000 of personal debt excluding our mortgages and we just don't want to think about it. Maybe our health or the health of a loved one has us worried so we want a distraction. Maybe it is information overload.

Our brains are inherently wired to avoid pain and maximize pleasure so that's probably why those darn videos are so addicting.  The problem is that most of us just don't realize the true cost of distractions. They use up what is actually a limited supply of attention that we have each day, and make us far less effective, costing us time and money. 

The law of substitution says that we can't think of two things at the same time. We can't think of the negative things that bother us in our daily lives at the same time as we're thinking of positive things. We let these distractions in so we don't have to think about those difficulties that worry us the most and that is costing us money.

Instead of feeding our mind with these mind numbing online distractions why not use the power of our mind to get us out of the painful situations that we are in and maybe, just maybe that time spent watching funny cat videos can be turned into profitable positive action.

Instead of wasting time becoming distracted by funny cat videos so we don't have to face our fears, what if instead using that same law of substitution, take the time to feed our mind. 

Zig Ziglar once said, "If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." 

Guard yourself from that trash TV or that online content, the binge watching that just distracts you from everything that you want to accomplish. Use that law of substitution to get the negative out. Associate with positive people, positive activities that feed your mind. Guard your mind from trash reading, and trash, mind numbing video watching. Instead feed your mind positive uplifting audio and video that's gonna inspire you, and educate you and help you reach your goals.

You can fill your entire year with funny cat videos and they may make you feel good but that's not gonna take you where you want to go. Spend more time with positive quality people and educational activities. Make that your determination. Make that your intention. Make it your objective. Make that your goal. Commit to it and do it. Forget resolutions, do it. Get busy with the positive and make no time for the negative.

The late Jim Rohn always says, "Remember, the same wind blows on all of us. It's the set of your sail that determines your course so set your sail for success today by learning the skills of success." I set my sails on personal development and it is something that I have been doing for years.  I'm always taking courses or reading books to further various skills and I encourage you to as well.

One of my mentors, Matt Morris said several years ago, "Personal stagnation is the cause of decay and failure in most people’s lives." Spending so much time on those funny cat videos is a sign of personal stagnation.

How you can make money watching Funny Cat Videos? Your not going to make money watching funny cat videos but if you take the time you spend on these types of mind numbing activities and do as Zig says, become determined to learn, then no one will be able to stop you.

A Federal Reserve study says 4 in 10 Americans say they wouldn’t be able to scrape together for a $400 emergency expense, and a quarter of Americans skipped some form of medical care in the past year because they couldn’t afford it. (Mary Altaffer/AP)

What's up with that?

This is supposed to be the longest period of sustained economic growth on record, yet millions of middle-class and low-income Americans still aren’t on solid enough ground to weather a some sort of economic storm in their lives.

This year’s Federal Reserve’s annual report on household well-being identified the underlying fragility and exposed pockets of distress. 

Almost four in 10 people (39 percent) said they wouldn’t be able to scrape together the cash to meet a $400 emergency expense. Even without any sudden expense, about 17 percent of adults said they would miss a payment on at least one bill this month.

More than 6 in 10 said losing their job would mean they couldn’t cover three months of expenses, even if they took out loans, sold assets or borrowed from friends and relatives.

Only 36 percent said their retirement savings are on track. Which means 64% aren't ready

Almost a quarter of Americans skipped some form of medical care in the past year because they couldn’t afford it.

1 in 5 faced major, unexpected medical bills. About 4 in 10 of those folks were still carrying debt related to those bills.

These stats cover 2018, when the unemployment rate averaged 3.9 percent, the lowest since 1969, and the economy grew 2.9 percent, matching its post-Great Recession high. Average hourly earnings grew 3 percent, easily the fastest rate since the recession’s end.

I heard a story about a man riding a horse at breakneck speed. It appears he’s going someplace very important. A man standing along the roadside shouts, “Where are you going?” To which the rider yells back, “I don’t know. Ask the horse.”

This seems to be essentially the story I’m hearing from lots of people today. They’re riding the horse of circumstances, their habits or other people’s expectations. If that describes you, it’s time to grab the reins and move your life in the direction of where you really want to go.

One of the defining moments of my life occurred 1988 when I somehow got a copy of a cassette tape recording of Earl Nightingale called The Strangest Secret. The central message was this – We become what we think about. That opened a door to a whole new world of possibilities for me that has never been closed.

Lets dive a little deeper into this idea that, “You become what you think about most of the time”

Is it better to set goals or resolutions? Here are 8 tips to help out. Episode 16

Why do most of us fail at keeping our New Year’s resolutions and what simple change can we make that will help us achieve what we want to accomplish in the future? 

It’s important to set some intentions for positive change in our life for the New Year, to hit the refresh button, so we need to take a different look at how we set those intentions for this New Year.

By definition, resolutions are more do-or-die which makes them more intimidating and more likely to fail. The definition of resolution is “a firm decision to do or not do something” or “the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter.” A resolution tends to be ridged and inflexible. More conducive to failure.

Meanwhile a goal by definition is “the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result; the destination of a journey.”

Just by these definitions alone, a goal sounds more attainable. Instead of setting a “firm” resolution that requires a very specific result we need to set a goal which is a part of a journey and enjoy the road to reaching a better place in our life.

It’s better to set a goal, so we can evaluate our progress and adjust along the way rather than write off a failed resolution and give up on it.
