Episode 45 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
In the next minute of the show, we look at a scene in the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men, and discuss some of the things that come up with interracial dating / relationships. Communication (or rather miscommunication) is part of any relationship and when we are vulnerable in intimate relationships, sometimes things in our heritage and upbringing can get highlighted. Sometimes we forget the we are unique people and our partners can't read our minds and don't know all the things that make up our backgrounds.

Episode 43 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
In this next episode, we look not only at the next minute of the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men, but also touch on race, ethnicity, and complications when it comes to depictions in the media as well as in Western medicine (which does not have the best track record when it comes to how people from non-Western cultures are sometimes thought of). The more we can hopefully discuss these kind of topics frankly and openly, the more awareness we will hopefully have a society in being able to confront differences that separate us.

Episode 42 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
In this next episode of the show, we look at minute 42 of the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men, and discuss adulting! Yes, all tat boring stuff like paying bills, making and keeping appointments, taking responsibility for your actions and decisions, etc. These are skills that need to be cultivated and learned like anything else, and there really is no age limit on learning them.

Episode 41 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
In this next episode, we touch on the next minute of the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men, in which the main character, Izzy has loaded up on 4 cups of coffee by 6:30 AM after an unexpected sexual encounter and bursts into the room of her still sleeping sister and her sister's boyfriend to debrief. Needless to say, they are less than amused. We discuss what might be an obvious phenomena - drinking too much coffee can make one wired ... but discuss some aspects of physiology when it comes to stimulating substances (like caffeine) as well as the at times complex and often misunderstood interplay between anxiety and inattention (which are often found together).

Episode 40 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
Happy New Year! In this next minute of the show, we are looking at a continuation of episode 39 which introduced the topic of discussing sex education in the context of the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men - in this next minute, we build on that topic and discuss some of the awkwardness when it comes to discussing this basic aspects of human existence of which much is discussed ... but often in hushed tones or with stammering, stuttering phrases, much like this minute, in which Izzy and her current spectacular man, Logan, have sex for the first time in a rather awkward but comical fashion,

Episode 37 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
In this next minute of our show, we discuss an aspect of communication illustrated in the next minute of the 2017 film, The Year of Spectacular Men, where the main character, Izzy used an acronym that even her sister and boyfriend didn't quite know. Episode 36 - The Psych Movie Minute Podcast
We're back after a summer hiatus! Happy fall, and join as we get back to the next minute on the show looking at the 2017 movie, The Year of Spectacular Men, as our protagonist gets distracted by a hamburger on a tray while her sister, Sabrina, is trying in vain to give her job interview tips ... leading to a discussion on attention (or, rather, inattention), a very common issue in mental health. In fact, almost all major mental health concerns have problems with attention as a core symptom. Developmentally, there is also much to consider, as our ability to focus on what is in front of us does get better as our brain matures into adulthood (though that may not be until the late 20s or early 30s in many people). That means for most young adults (like Izzy in this case), there is a developmental angle that should also be considered.

Ultimately (and this is for a future episode), we get hints as to why she was depressed in the first place - we'll come to that in a future episode so as to not give it away now.

We touch on a number of existential mental health as well as societal issues and trends during the course of the episode, which was actually recorded almost a year ago (though we're just getting to it in the lineup now, in some ways, many things have not really changed much in this area). The book, by the way, that Dr. Dube mentions in the course of the show is 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Harari PhD.

By the way, we keep forgetting to mention, but we have set up some social media accounts that have extra details for these episodes - on Twitter (www.twitter.com/PsychMinute) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/psychmovieminute).
