Exploring TEL research with John Brindle
In this exclusive #ALTC23 episode, I am joined by my good friend, John Brindle. We dive deep into our research journeys, reflecting on how much we have evolved (for the better, we hope) since commencing our doctoral studies at Lancaster University. We also share invaluable advice we have received from our supervisors and touch on various other engaging topics. If you are contemplating the challenging path of doctoral research and feeling daunted, John and I won't sugarcoat it as easy, but we can affirm that it's profoundly rewarding, and most importantly, you will not alone in this journey.

Stop Weighing Your Pigs! Why Are We In Thrall of Grades? (Part 2)
Content warning: Profanity was used between 10:00 and 10:10 mins.
Stop Weighing Your Pigs! Why Are We In Thrall of Grades? (Part 1) with Dr Martin Compton
In this episode, Martin and I discussed a thorny issue - ungrading. Should we grade our students or not? What good or harm can we do to our students by giving them bad grades? Or really good grades? What do grades mean in their development anyway? Is it time to stop giving grades and focus on giving personalised and constructive feedback? We most definitely talked about the art of giving feedback that will actually mean something to our students, which is not an easy thing to do but it is worth it in the long run for everyone.
Dr Martin Compton is an Associate Professor in the Arena Centre at UCL.
