8: Mapping Scotland with Ordnance Survey
Registers of Scotland is responsible for maintaining the legal registers relating to land and property in Scotland, but to do this effectively we work with a number of other organisations. OS is one of the most critical of these, providing the base map upon which we register property titles.
Our host for this edition is Kenny Crawford, Business Development Director at RoS, and to share the story of OS, their work and how they work with partner organisations like RoS, he’s joined by David Henderson, Managing Director of OS GB.

OS’s other consumer offerings (04:56)

7: Using Scotland's land registers to find title sheets, house prices and more
Registers of Scotland underpins the process for each and every property purchase in Scotland, but for the average person buying their home, much of this is handled by solicitors and other legal professionals. However, the information on our registers is important to all homeowners, whether it’s about knowing your property boundaries or what happens when you buy or sell a home.
That's why we’ve created our simple guides (https://www.ros.gov.uk/support/simple-guides) , and in this podcast we’ll take a closer look at what they tell you and why property information is so important.
You'll find out more about the information we hold on our registers, like:
The ins and outs of a title sheet (02:30)
Burdens and securities (04:02)
How to get a copy of your title sheet? (07:00)
What does land registration involve? (08:34)
What are advance notices? (11:27)
What happens when a property changes owner? (13:10)
What are boundaries? (14:32)
What if your property is on the Sasine Register? (17.30)
What is the land register? (20:35)

5: Joining the dots – designing services for the public sector
Did you know that there’s evidence of service design in our Land Registers as far back as 1807? Thomas Thomson wanted to improve what was at that time a rather busy and hard to decipher Register; pages and pages of tightly covered entries in small cramped writing with no space between them. Enter Thomas who introduced limited number of words per page, added margins and search aids. This meant searching became more efficient and it reduced time and cost for Registers of Scotland.
So basically he was improving the search for data, and making it easier to digest by being a content producer, creating style guideline version 1 for Registers of Scotland and creating a single source of truth. Sound familiar?
