On May 14, 2022, a terrorist attack took place in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. Ten people were shot and killed and three injured. Eleven of the victims were black. The shooter livestreamed the attack on Twitch. The terrorist, identified as 18-year-old Payton S. Gendron, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Gendron wrote a manifesto describing himself as a “white supremacist” and voiced support for the so-called “great replacement" conspiracy theory. We will discuss themes around the issue but not the issue itself.
