“Coleropolis” in Review
Ryan and Michael’s second journey into Beyond Gilead’s old time radio parodies is a bit rocky as the two co-hosts break down episode 128 (10-3), “Coleropolis.” The review of this relatively inconsequential episode touches on its lesson and whether it was warranted, the story structure of the real life scenes, who bears responsibility for the main conflict, and some odd directing for MacKenzie Segard.

The Season 10 Premiere in Review, Part 2
The review of the Season 10 premiere continues as Michael and Ryan discuss the overarching themes of these two episodes. Pointless eminent domain, John’s reaction to the bulldozer, emphasizing plot and forgetting character, and the sanctity of Gilead Lane all factor into part two of this discussion.

The Season 10 Premiere in Review, Part 1
Drama on Gilead Lane! Dreams! Premonitions! Bulldozers! And... a discussion once again on how to write appropriate messages from God. Ryan and Michael get into the nitty-gritty of the discussion on the theology of the Season 10 premiere of Beyond Gilead, episodes 126 and 127 (10-1 and 10-2), “An Approaching Shadow” and “Choice Morsels.”

“The Greatest of These” in Review
It’s Gilead’s only split episode! Michael and Ryan return to Return to Gilead for a review of episode 125 (S-15) of Beyond Gilead, “The Greatest of These.” The first split, “Sir Plungealot,” serves as a source of laughs and surface-level themes, while the second split, “Flower Day,” prompts some interesting discussion on Valentine’s Day and how Lori Twichell handled it with the Morrisons.

“Putting the Christmas Back in Hope” in Review
Is this the best Christmas episode? Ryan and Michael take some time at the start of this review to rehash their objective standards for episode reviews before diving into the great character development in episode 124 (S-14) of Beyond Gilead, “Putting the Christmas Back in Hope.” The two hosts highlight Justin’s return and his interactions with Hope, some odd lines from Tiffany Richter, stuff that coulda been cut, and Ryan having a funny.

“Table Talk” in Review
The fourth longest episode of Gilead sparked a little bit of controversy between Michael and Ryan... but we’ve edited down the highlights for an insightful review of episode 123 (S-13) of Beyond Gilead, “Table Talk.” Up for debate in this review of Gilead’s third Thanksgiving special are the sheer runtime of this episode, Hope’s side plot, Tim’s heartwarming scenes, the random war trauma flashback, and John’s possibly out-of-character parenting style leading to a disturbing scenario for Michael Morrison.

The season finale is here, bringing a character-driven episode for Tim to shine. Ryan and Michael pick apart episode 122 (9-12) of Beyond Gilead, “Letting Go,” John Fornof’s poignant conclusion to Season 9. The two returned hosts discuss the episode’s short length, Hope’s inconsistencies, Tim’s specific lesson, and ever-excellent acting. Plus, a voice message from Bren!

The prolific audio drama master chats with Michael and Ryan about his experience working with Steve O’Dell and the Gilead team, how he respects Beth Culp’s source material, good ways to write salvation scenes, his perspective on hearing God’s voice, and talking about his latest project.

“It’s a Richterful Life” in Review
Michael has a new top episode of Beyond Gilead! ...Ryan not so much. The two avid Gilead fans break down the Morrison-lacking penultimate episode of Season 9, episode 121 (9-11), “It’s a Richterful Life,” and its compelling theme, strange story structure, genuine characters, and iffy dialogue.

“Knock Knock, Who’s There?” in Review
It’s back to Michael and Ryan and normal episodes of Gilead in this review of episode 120 (9-10) of Beyond Gilead, “Knock Knock, Who’s There?” Mary’s possible hypocrisy, uncontrollable characteristics, differences between praying for and against, a two-act structure, Bill Mincer, and how houses are bought all factor into this thorough review.

It’s a bit of a shorter episode of the Return to Gilead Sunday Special, but still a thorough one! Michael and Ryan are back to break down the continuing storylines, character arcs, and shoddy cliffhangers in Keys for Kids’ Red Rock Mysteries episode 7, “Stolen Secrets, Part 3.”

“The Showdown” in Review (ft. Austin Peachey and Jack Cashion)
Austin Peachey and Jack Cashion jump back on the podcast to join Michael and Ryan in reviewing episode 119 (9-9) of Beyond Gilead, “The Showdown.” While Austin loves the old-time radio spoof from John Fornof, the other hosts aren’t too keen on Tim’s persistent eisegesis, how Tim learns his lesson, and the theme in the episode’s climax.

We have a mixed-up episode as Ryan and Michael piece together episode 118 (9-8) of Beyond Gilead, “Shades of Chartreuse.” And how will Editing Michael deal with this insanity?

“The Locked Door” in Review
We’ve reached another crossroads. John Fornof’s next episode of Beyond Gilead, 117 (9-7), “The Locked Door,” sparks a fair bit of controversy between Michael and Ryan in how Grace Andrews deals with a memory of her parents, considering how Beth Culp created, wrote, and intended for her to be.

“Much Ado About Something” in Review
Anna Townsend is back... and Michael’s opinions on her return may have changed. As Ryan and Michael explore the plot and characters of episode 116 (9-6) of Beyond Gilead, “Much Ado About Something,” the two reviewers discuss the conflict between Maya and Anna, Lori Twichell’s depiction of the theater, Michael Morrison’s place in the middle of the conflict, and the issues with writing a two-act structure. “School Graze” in Review
The negativity unfortunately continues with Michael and Ryan’s review of Lori Twichell’s next episode in Season 9 of Beyond Gilead, 115 (9-5), “School Graze.” Why has Hope started a clique? Why didn’t John stand up to Monica right away? Why doesn’t Hope’s school give her any boundaries? How didn’t John and Mary see this coming? And why did a five-year-old girl go without sandwiches for a week while her parents may or may not have known about it? No idea, but listen to hear your two objective story critics conjecture why!

“A Story of Grace and Hope” in Review
John Fornof’s debut in Season 9 of Beyond Gilead is... a little shaky at best, and Michael and Ryan are here to break down exactly why in this review of episode 113 (9-3), “A Story of Grace and Hope.” The two analytical audio drama enthusiasts talk about the issue with writing a theme into a Bible story (again), whether the biblical Jonah actually complained, some great performaces from Rodney TeSlaa, and some unexpected VeggieTales references.

“Memories and Milestones” in Review
A new season is here! Michael and Ryan kick off Return to Gilead’s review series of Season 9 of Beyond Gilead with the “split” episode 111 (9-1), “Memories and Milestones.” The two reviewers talk about clip shows in audio drama and the returning questions of where trials come from... along with some examples of Michael Morrison’s misunderstood humor.

“A Steady Up” in Review
Things are getting more tense in Coleraine as the mayoral races progress, and Michael and Ryan are here to break it down in this review of episode 107 (8-10) of Beyond Gilead, “A Steady Up.” The Brobdingnagian Gileadites discuss Monica’s lies by omission, the beginning of a series of callbacks for Justin, and how John Fornof delivers an excellent representation of discerning God’s will. We continue the interruption of the Mr. Key Series to remind the audience of the Coleraine mayoral race... with a review of an episode of Beyond Gilead in which seemingly nothing happens, 104 (8-7), “It’s the Little Things.” Ryan and Michael break down the mysterious missing themes and points of the scenes in this episode, the implications behind scripture used for a resolution, and a fun moment of Chris Blair killing it as Michael Morrison.

The Mr. Key Series in Review, Part 1
A four-parter begins... Michael and Ryan settle in for a review of the four episodes in the “Mr. Key Series” of Season 8 of Beyond Gilead, 101 and 102 (8-5 and 8-6), “Days Gone By” and 105 and 106 (8-8 and 8-9), “God Had a Plan.” It’s a slow start to the huge review as the two hosts talk spoilers (for both Gilead and Woodgrove, apparently), the prevalent flashback scenes in the later two episodes, and the acting and directing for young Jeremiah Key.

Today, we celebrate the release of the 100th episode of Return to Gilead... with Ryan getting mugged. Meanwhile, Ryan and Michael’s review of “Trouble in the Jungle” continues with Ryan’s complete teardown of the character of Tom and his “brash” behavior, along with ways to workshop the story, differences between active and passive characters, a few unclear plot resolutions, and a spotlight of excellent sound design.

“Trouble in the Jungle” in Review, Part 1
It’s a more positive spin on a mixed-bag of a two-parter in this first part of Michael and Ryan’s review of episodes 99 and 100 (8-3 and 8-4) of Beyond Gilead, “Trouble in the Jungle.” There’s not much time for festivities upon reaching episode 100, but in the meantime, the audio drama critics bring out the positives in production quality, some good lines of dialogue, subtleties in showing the story to the audience, excellent music from Steve Wick, and Tom and Maya’s development as characters throughout these episodes... before starting in on why Tom’s departure in Part 1 might break the story entirely.

The discussion on discerning God’s will continues in Ryan and Michael’s review of John Fornof’s first episode of Beyond Gilead Season 8, episode 98 (8-2), “When Good Men Do Nothing.” Besides a packed discussion of another side of the issue from last episode, the hosts discuss Timmy (now Tim) Morrison’s powerful subplot and how it ties into and could have made better the main storyline of John Morrison’s mayoral considerations.

The Return to Peru Trilogy in Review, Part 1
In a Return to Gilead first, Michael and Ryan are reviewing three episodes of Beyond Gilead across two seasons: 95 (7-11): “Where He Leads...”, 96 (7-12): “...I Will Follow,” and 97 (8-1): “A Time to Go and a Time to Stay.” In this first part of three, the two audio drama critics discuss the continuing connections between Brooke’s and Tom’s storylines, the first collaboration between John and Lori, Ryan’s exegesis of tithing in scripture, and the foreshadowing of a debate on discerning God’s calling.

Everything’s on Fire – An Extended Review of “The Journey,” Part 2 (ft. Jack Cashion)
Does “Bridges” Promote Purity Culture? Find out in Jack’s (Michael’s roommate’s) second review, the second part of the hosts’ review of “The Journey,” by W. Mark Whitlock. After closing the discussion on the Passport to Purity product, the hosts bring up holdovers from the Whitlockverse, Brooke’s perplexing passersby perspective, and the vague implications of John and Mary’s story about... virginity?

“The Journey” in Review, Part 1 (ft. Jack Cashion)
He’s here!! Michael’s roommate Jack Cashion has finally caved to peer pressure and listened to audio drama... and for some incomprehensible reason, Michael gave him W. Mark Whitlock’s encore episodes of Beyond Gilead, episodes 93 and 94 (7-9 and 7-10), “The Journey.” Michael, Ryan, and Jack talk about these saved “lost” episodes (originally 7-4a, 7-5a, and 7-6a) and their many ties to the Passport to Purity project in this first part of the review.

“The Winds of Change” in Review
A sugar-crashed Michael isn’t enough to stop Ryan’s hot takes on this review of Lori Twichell’s reunion of Brooke and Tom, episode 92 (7-8) of Beyond Gilead, “The Winds of Change.” This chat between the intrepid co-hosts focuses on this episode’s place as a jumping point, Tom’s new growth, Brooke’s reverse culture shock, and how applicable wineskins actually are.

calebdoesntknowwhatsgoingon
This bonus episode includes a conversation between Michael and Ryan that was too long to fit into the last review, discussing an odd quirk in a scene from “Closer Than a Sister.” Michael breaks down an even deeper reason why the misunderstanding plot is rather weak, while Ryan uses that reason to jump into a larger discussion of the real source of conflict in the episode... that is completely unaddressed.

“Closer Than a Sister” in Review
What happened to Michael Morrison? Michael LaFaver and Ryan Matlock are asking that question in this review of episode 89 (7-5) of Beyond Gilead, “Closer Than a Sister.” The two hosts look at the miscommunication plot, Mikey’s disregarded emotions, and whether this episode was actually about jealousy in this shortened critical analysis of Lori Twichell’s fourth episode. Plus, Michael brings some unfortunate news about the Slow Walk Down Gilead Lane... and Ryan brings an Apple Podcasts review!

“Why, God?” in Review
With John Fornof’s second episode of Gilead comes high drama, heavy stakes, and huge emotional development for Luke Taylor... and a praiseworthy episode for Ryan and Michael to review: episode 88 (7-4) of Beyond Gilead, “Why, God?” Up for discussion in this glowing review are some massive version differences, great sound design, references back to Season 5, and a thematic plot that possibly surpasses those of Sara Osinsky.

“Go Ye Into All the World, Part 2” in Review
As Brooke’s journey to Peru continues, so does Michael and Ryan’s review of Lori Twichell’s writing in episode 87 (7-3) of Beyond Gilead, “Go Ye Into All the World, Part 2.” In a similar vein as last review, Ryan brings out how this episode’s structure around inactive scenes and long prayers is a detriment to the plot, while Michael explains how the prayer scenes’ music adds to the emotional core of the story. Karens, journaling, and witnessing through a missing camera also factor into the review along the way.

“Go Ye Into All the World, Part 1” in Review
Lori Twichell’s second episode is up for discussion as Ryan and Michael jump into a review of episode 86 (7-2) of Beyond Gilead, “Go Ye Into All the World, Part 1.” Michael’s extra positivity continues, but the two hosts find meaningful critiques of this episode’s inactive and expositional plot, questions about Timmy’s and Haley’s unprovoked responses, praise for Laurie Krieg’s beautiful acting, and thoughts (again) on getting nudges from God. Plus, an Apple Podcasts review from Austin and a voice message from JACK!!

The Sock Episode in Review
IT’S THE SOCK EPISODE!! As Michael and Ryan move fully into Beyond Gilead territory, the two hosts kick off the Season 7 review series with episode 85 (7-1): “Whatever You Do.” The Mighty Socks, a huge voice change, aimless inner monologue, lapsing creativity, and misleading hooks all factor in to Ryan’s criticisms of this episode... but Michael has a different take.

The Palate Cleanser – An Extended Review of “O Little Town of Coleraine” (ft. Austin Peachey)
The time is finally here to review Lori Twichell’s first episode of Gilead, 84 (S-10): “O Little Town of Coleraine.” Austin Peachey again joins Ryan and Michael to engage in a little well-natured debating over the merits of this soft season premiere. While all three hosts appreciate the much-needed respite after the Whitlock trilogy, opinions are mixed on the overall plot, the final scene’s twist, how the episode earns (or doesn’t earn) credibility, and what the theme, if anything, actually is.

“Reuben Get Your Gun” in Review, Part 1
The “lost” episodes of Gilead continue with the first in a bonus two-part review of 7-2a and 7-3a, “Reuben Get Your Gun,” by W. Mark Whitlock. Ryan and Michael delve into questions we’ve always wanted to know, such as: What is the Valkyrie file? What stereotypes a hacker? Does the FBI call you to threaten seizure? Who are the Pythons? What are Vinnie and Morrie’s (or, for that matter, the Coleraine police department’s) stakes in this? Can Mrs. Donner keep her son from calling an ex-gang member? How can you know which way bullets were fired from the orientation of their shells on the ground behind some bushes after thirty years? And, most importantly, WHAT THE DERP IS EVEN HAPPENING???

“Pick Your Battles” in Review
We’re approaching the end of Season 6, and Caleb has at least one more lesson to learn. In this review of episode 82 (6-11) of Down Gilead Lane, “Pick Your Battles,” Ryan and Michael highlight Beth Culp’s excellent message of the struggles we face even after coming to faith in Christ. Along the way, they bring up how Caleb has changed from earlier in the season and in the series, Caleb’s reflection and subversion of Tom in his character arc, Anthony’s reaction to his persecution, and Monica’s and Tiffany’s tragic ends in Beth Culp’s canon.

For Caleb Richter, everything has led to this.... In this review of episode 81 (6-10) of Down Gilead Lane, “The Price of Peace,” Michael and Ryan take a look at Caleb’s low point, the people who help him out of it, and the Person he turns to for hope. Additional topics discussed include the rivalry between Vincent and Michael Morrison, a debatably cut scene, and Tiffany’s fallout from the previous episode.

More drama comes to Coleraine, and Michael and Ryan are ready to defend the narcs (not really) in this review of episode 80 (6-9) of Down Gilead Lane, “Fair Warning.” Before our intrepid hosts spend years upon years coming up with a better title, they talk about this episode’s connection to the Secrets of Grace, Tiffany’s rapid downward spiral, possible chemistry between Brooke and Anthony, and Mr. Donner’s strange habit of watching rainstorms.

“Split Decision” in Review
It’s a perfect pun and a great episode on Michael and Ryan’s review of episode 78 (6-7) of Down Gilead Lane, “Split Decision”! While Caleb is split between making a new path for himself and following his old life, there’s much to be said about Caleb’s thought process, an arc redone, an ideal scene, a suspenseful ending, and (of course) Tiffany being terrible.

“Hometown Heroes” in Review, Part 2
As Ryan and Michael’s review of “Hometown Heroes” continues with its second part, the discussion shifts to some smaller issues from this sportsbally two-parter, including a few unintelligible references to teachers’ names, how Mikey and Anthony both spur Caleb on for good, giving glory to God in the culture regardless of success, and a reiteration of Tiffany’s contrasts with Anthony.

“Hometown Heroes” in Review, Part 1
The big game is here! Caleb Richter and Anthony Donner take center stage in this two-parter, and co-hosts Michael and Ryan are eager to explore the awesome chemistry between these two unlikely friends in the first part of a review of episodes 76 (6-5) and 77 (6-8) of Down Gilead Lane, “Hometown Heroes.” Along with the two star quarterbacks, topics brought out in this review are Anthony’s relationship to his parents, how this two-parter stacks up against Beth Culp’s other laid-back shows, Zach’s odd bias toward Caleb, possible positives for Tiffany, and Justin’s crush (?!?) on Rebecca.

The Season 6 Premiere in Review, Part 2
Who are those who mourn? The discussion takes a deep turn in the second part of Ryan and Michael’s review of the Season 6 premiere of Down Gilead Lane, as the fallout from the last season with Luke’s coping mechanisms and Becca’s advice on the Beatitudes is up for consideration. The two hosts discuss how confronting grief is the best way out of it, who Jesus meant when He referred to “those who mourn,” and where Beth Culp might be going with a specific interpretation of that Beatitude. The Season 6 Premiere in Review, Part 1
The end is in sight! The beginning of Season 6 of Down Gilead Lane brings not only the start of a new storyline but also an amazing arc for Michael Morrison in its first three episodes - episode 72 (6-1): “Deal With It,” episode 73 (6-2): “Hot-Head, Cold-Heart,” and episode 74 (6-3): “The Best Man Wins.” In this first part of three, intrepid Gilead reviewers Michael and Ryan make connections to previous episodes, bring out some great moments between John and Michael Morrison, begin to explore Luke Taylor’s emotions, and find an unusual tie between the three main subplots of the first episode of the season.

Michael and Ryan talk about what makes this episode’s dual storyline worth it in this review of episode 67 (5-8) of Down Gilead Lane, “Brighter Days.” The two hosts discuss the intricate interweaving of a seemingly frivolous plot about Haley, the story of Tom Richter post-Grace, and Joan’s journey of faith.

We’ve got more version differences as we cross the halfway point in Season 5! Ryan and Michael are ready to jump into episode 66 (5-7) of Down Gilead Lane, “Talk to Me,” by highlighting the well-done dual storyline, similarities to a Season 1 episode, Beth Culp’s refusal to show plot payoffs, and the true name of the Sunrise Grill waitress.

Becca, the Antagonist – An Extended Review of “Comeback, Mom”
With a shocking revelation about Joan Taylor comes a surprising reaction from Becca... one that Ryan finds not just misplaced, but genuinely antagonistic. In this extended review of episode 65 (5-6) of Down Gilead Lane, “Comeback, Mom,” Michael and Ryan explore the character of Rebecca Taylor, her neutral qualities, and an intriguing lack of sympathy for her. Also in this review, the two discuss an excellent dual storyline when it comes to Timmy’s side. And WORD POPPERS!

“The Domino Effect” in Review
The Taylors’ troubles are starting to affect the Morrisons, just like dominoes! Or not. Ryan and Michael explore just how far the domino theme was taken in this review of episode 64 (5-5) of Down Gilead Lane, “The Domino Effect.” Along with a look at Brooke’s sudden turn and how her family mindfully reacts, the two reviewers discuss Justin’s frame of mind, each of the Taylors’ mindsets toward Joan, and Mrs. Donner giving Tiffany a well-deserved piece of her mind.

The Taylors’ world has been shaken by Joan’s return to Coleraine, and Michael and Ryan are here to discuss the tumult that ensues in episode 62 (5-3) of Down Gilead Lane, “Snot Fair!” Besides some emotional scenes with Becca and Brooke and a breakdown of Tiffany’s psyche, the co-hosts look at Haley’s illness storyline’s peculiar parallel to Job (and cumbersome acronyms).

New season, new music! Era 2 is now in full swing as Michael and Ryan begin a review series of Season 5 of Down Gilead Lane, starting with episode 60 (5-1), “Spoiled Sport.” Along with a new pun-rating tradition from Ryan, the team discusses Beth Culp’s story potential post-Grace, parallel themes in the Morrison and Taylor families, John’s reaction to Michael’s heart issue, and the start of a long, emotional arc for Rebecca Taylor.

It’s Sara Osinsky’s last episode, and Michael and Ryan have plenty of praise for the last special episode before Beyond Gilead, episode 59 (S-9) of Down Gilead Lane, “Heart and Soldier.” The podcast hosts bring up the way this episode expands the character of Mr. Key, how Haley makes a great foil for everyone, showing emotions through writing and directing, and seeing a simple story from multiple perspectives.

“Spring Broke” in Review, Part 2
In this second part of Ryan and Michael’s review of “Spring Broke,” the duo picks up where the conversation left off on the contrasts between the Morrison and Vaughn families. The discussion this part also includes thoughts on letting the audience come to their own conclusions, woes of six-year-olds, whether the receptionist did her job well or not, and the theme of making God the center of every choice we make. Also, some feedback from Noah!

An Interview with Beth Culp
Return to Gilead welcomes Beth Culp, the creator and showrunner of Down Gilead Lane, to the longest interview to date on this podcast! Beth shares about her tragedy early in life that led her to grace and the story of Down Gilead Lane, along with how she was approached by CBH Ministries to create the show and went about writing scripts and casting characters. She also gives insight into the hardest and the most fun episodes to write, and she discusses how her writing style differs from that on Adventures in Odyssey. And, in a discussion highly anticipated by hosts Michael and Ryan, Beth takes a deep dive into the questions of “How do you start a dating relationship?” “What is the proper way to have cleaning days?” and, most importantly, “Was Grace right?”

“Free for All” in Review, Part 2
Ms. Kopek’s arc comes to an end, as do Ryan and Michael’s thoughts on this two-parter, in this continued review of “Free for All.” The discussion picks up from the last episode with questions about keeping secrets in a harmful relationship, thoughts on Grace’s odd passive-agressiveness, how story structure shouldn’t shame the audience, and a look at a wonderful final scene for the main characters.

It’s the second two-parter of the series! In this review, Michael and Ryan begin a deep dive into episodes 52 and 53 (4-8 and 4-9) of Down Gilead Lane, “Free for All.” The first of two parts concerns an excellent roast by Ms. Kopek, how the passage of time is felt deceptively well, “vaccoons,” Timmy’s feelings toward the infant trash pandas, and the start of a discussion on Ms. Kopek’s new friendship with Maya.

“Sneeze the Day” in Review
Is Coleraine trapped in the past? Monica Richter certainly thinks so, and Michael and Ryan are here to ask why in this review of episode 51 (4-7) of Down Gilead Lane, “Sneeze the Day.” With a triple storyline in this episode, the duo wonders whether the episode could have used more refining, how more opportunities to show rather than tell could have been used, where the source of Mr. Key’s emotions lie, and what the central conflict at the town meeting actually is.

“Can Do” in Review
We’ve reached the big five-O! Michael and Ryan celebrate this milestone with a review of episode 50 (4-6) of Down Gilead Lane, “Can Do.” While both reviewers think Luke’s storyline could have been expanded, there’s much to say about Haley’s abysmal detective skills, can bug physics, the chemistry between Ben and Luke, and much more.

“Insomni-Maniacs” in Review
The plot progresses closer to a big reveal as Ryan and Michael continue Season 4 with a review of episode 49 (4-5) of Down Gilead Lane, “Insomni-Maniacs.” Both hosts are a tad iffy on this show, with questions about the source of and solution to Michael Morrison’s problems, the repurcussions to Brooke’s all-nighters, and the Morrison parents’ dismissiveness of their kids’ questions. Meanwhile, Michael Morrison making holes in the lawn, Brooke talking like Haley, and the return of Sally the waitress bring some positives in this review.

“Fish-n-Slips” in Review
It’s a great day for two avid Timmy fans as Michael and Ryan review episode 48 (4-4) of Down Gilead Lane, “Fish-n-Slips.” The podcasters showcase Timmy’s acting through Sarah Osinsky’s writing as a foundation for his relationship with Mr. Key, how the Michael and Haley subplot works as a misdirection rather than as its own story, and the dedication of the sound designers in getting accurate water sound effects. Also a quick story about Archimedes!

Find out in Ryan and Michael’s review of episode 47 (4-3) of Down Gilead Lane, “Aim Higher.” The two hosts try to find the differences between Sara’s and Beth Culp’s writing, bring up how a single scene highlights everything great about the episode, and break down the theme of the episode and how the three main characters exemplify it.

“Raining Cats and Clues” in Review
Cat! On this review of episode 46 (4-2) of Down Gilead Lane, “Raining Cats and Clues,” Michael and Ryan come to the conclusion that there is a cat. For Leah Gartner’s final episode, Becca Taylor saves a cat while avoiding a messy relationship with Brad Smith, who doesn’t like cats. There are also questions about dating that have nothing to do with the cat, so they’re probably not worth talking about. Hey, I just remembered something. This episode has a cat in it. A Right to Be Upset – An Extended Review of “Eruptions”
Season 4 has begun... with a very thematically confusing episode! Ryan and Michael are ready to dive deep into the Bible verses used to justify the Morrisons’ stances in episode 45 (4-1) of Down Gilead Lane, “Eruptions.” For an extended review, much time is taken to discuss how exactly Proverbs 26:17 and 31:8 should have been used in the context of this episode. Afterward, the podcasting duo brings up how this episode is a perfect season opener, how the music sets the tone for the finale, and the complete ineptitude of Coleraine’s systems engineers.

Rodney played Tom for the entire run of the show, but he also had a hand in its creation before his first appearance in Season 2. In this interview, Rodney talks about Tom’s character development from a side antagonist to a well-developed mainstay, memories from the studio working with Beth Culp and Steve O’Dell, his background in comedy and theater, and thoughts on creating good Christian stories.

The end of Season 3 is here, with possibly the most compact and intense finale yet on Down Gilead Lane! Michael and Ryan begin the discussion of the final three episodes of the season – episode 39 (3-10): “Cosmic Confusion,” episode 40 (3-11): “A Story to Tell,” and episode 41 (3-12): “A Case Against Grace.” Things are a little flipped in this first part, as the podcasting duo focuses mostly on the final episode of the three and how it was both casual and compelling, Ryan’s take on the connections between the plotlines, evidence of Maya’s growth throughout the season, and a peek at the discussion for the next part.

The Battle on Both Sides – An Extended Review of “Beauty and the Beast Within”
Down Gilead Lane is one of the most spiritually deep audio dramas due to Beth Culp’s well-written episodes dealing with mature themes. Today’s episode, 37 (3-8), “Beauty and the Beast Within,” is one of those shows, covering the themes of pornography, lust, and self-image. Michael and Ryan take an extended session to review the ways the Morrison parents broach the issues with their kids, how pornography affects marriage, both sides of lustful images for men and women, the Biblical meaning of modesty and C.S. Lewis’s insights on the subject, and how all these topics are woven masterfully into a children’s dramatization.

The Season 2 Finale in Review, Part 2
Last time, Ryan and Michael covered the positives of the Down Gilead Lane Season 2 finale. In the second part of the review, we turn to a few negatives: the lack of story and strange messaging of Justin’s plot in “Theories,” and the ongoing question of Grace’s prerogatives in “Connections.”

This podcast starts the first of three parts of a discussion of three episodes of Down Gilead Lane – episode 23 (2-10): “The List,” episode 24 (2-11): “Theories,” and episode 25 (2-12): “Connections.” To start off this long review, Michael and Ryan highlight some of the better moments from the episodes, such as the tasteful introduction of the Richter parents, how Michael Morrison’s competitive spirit makes an excellent theme, and the meaning of Jesus’ parables on finding the lost. “All 4 One” in Review
It’s a big episode for Maya Richter this time on Down Gilead Lane, as Ryan and Michael review episode 21 (2-8), “All 4 One.” Aside from the massive character development for a former antagonist, this episode also shows contrasts between the Morrisons and Richter families, a competent incorporation of a real-life ministry, how a heart for service changes people, and still more hints about Grace Andrews’ past.
