This episode is all about finding and hopefully catching exotic freshwater fish in South Florida. Mainly in Miami - Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The focus is on peacock bass, along with snake heads, clown knife fish, and a host of cichlids. Gear, baits and locations are all discussed.

Guiding folks to fish is fun and challenging, but it's also a lot of work. Here's the skinny on how to get started.

An all-in-one talk about the many types of plants that can be grown in Florida. From palms to flowers, butterfly gardens, and orchids.

Fishing is a science. It's also lucky. Nope, not true. Like anything else, fishing takes practice, but there's also a little inner voice that talks to me on the water and tells me where I should be to catch fish. I call it a "notion", but it's really experience and time on the water. Here are some tips to hopefully help you with getting a notion.  

I learned to sail at a young age, long before I piloted my first power boat. Do you have a youngster in your life that needs to get out of the house? Might want to look into sailing clubs all around Florida that teach sailing. It worked for me!

Shelling is huge in Southwest Florida. As a matter of fact, Sanibel Island is the number 2 destination for serious shell seekers. I'm what I like to call an accidental sheller. I love to walk beaches and I love to fish along beaches. While doing both of those activities I tend to pick up shells. Only the pretty ones. Thus I'm and accidental sheller.

The title says it all! A recent visit to a fishing tackle store was eye opening. There's lots of new fishing stuff out there! 

The title says it all. I sometimes have several random ideas and really can't decide what one to grab ahold of and run with it. Mostly because there's not quite enough to cover 30 minutes or more. So, this one has some current events, Scottish Highland games, and air fryers. Go figure. 

I love a good story. Written or spoken, it doesn't matter. I also love to tell stories, mostly true. In this podcast I've included a few of my own as well as a list of other authors that I think do a wonderful job of telling a great short story.

Retirement has its ups and down's, but when it comes to playing outdoors its most certainly full of ups! This podcast is mainly aimed at those of you that have reached the goal of not working, only to find that you still want to work and play. You young folks might want to listen too. There's some good advice here, if I say so myself.  

Back to fishing we go! A long story about how I was introduced to a very special lure that has caught more Florida saltwater fish than I can count. 

I very special guest joined me for this podcast. The former 'Executive Chef' of Reel Talk Radio, my wife, JoNell Modys, sat down to the mic to share her knowledge about favorite Florida libations and some very yummy appetizer recipes. Yum, yum! 

Florida has thousands of birds. From the shores to the interior there are a combination of soaring, wading, diving, swimming and song birds. I've long been fascinated with the many types and thought I share some insights on some of my favorites. 

As many of my listeners already know, I love Key West. I've spent many wonderful and crazy days & nights on that small island at the end of the Florida Keys. I decided to share some insights into visiting there. Basically "what to see and do." Hope you enjoy the podcast!

Happy New Year. What happens when a large northwest Florida river disappears into the the ground?  It reappears 3 miles later and continues on toward the Suwannee River. Listen and I'll explain. Also there are some cooking tips and another favorite tall tale of mine.

The week between Christmas and New Years Day is often a break for most, and back to work for some. I find it a time to just ponder on the past year and hope for better in the next. That is most certainly my feelings for 2022. It MUST be better. This episode has more random thoughts and a new addition - story telling. I was asked by quite a few listeners to include a story each week, outdoorsy in nature. So hand in there until the end. Happy New Year!

With a great deal of introspection ( I love that word ) I've made a change in the format of my podcast. It will still be about the great outdoors, but instead of sticking to one subject per episode, I've decided to make it multi. This idea came about because I used to be a radio announcer. Stations are required to make public service announcements, yet podcast don't really have to go there. But I am, sort of. I've put together a few things that I think most all outdoor folks, especially anglers, boaters and beachgoers, ought to know. 

The gift giving season is upon us, so I thought I'd throw some ideas out, sooner than later. This seems to be the year to shop early, due to supply and possible shipping slowdowns. Hope this helps listeners find something for that special person who would rather be outside instead of inside.

While watching A River Runs Through It for the umpteenth time, I thought it might be interesting to investigate films that have somewhat of a theme of fishing. Some have quite a bit, and some are limited, but all are watchable. Here's a my take on some of the more popular movies with a little or a lot of fishing included in the plot.

By special request, from quite a few listeners, Fishing Hodgepodge is back and will become a regular feature on Catch You Outdoors. It should appear about every 3rd or 4th episode. Not really a problem for me. I love talking about fishing!

This one is about the changes brought about by the impending cold fronts of winter and how they affect fishing on the west coast and east coast of Florida. I've also added my observations of how those same fronts affect the Florida Keys.

As a kid growing up in Florida it wasn't always fishing and beaching. We also spent a good amount of time visiting what were then known as roadside attractions. Before the Interstate Highway system was established travelers use state roads, and on those roads entrepreneurs came up with some very interesting places to stop and visit. A good many are still there. Might be time to take a road trip!

I can't get enough of fresh Florida seafood. Is there anything better? I don't think so. In this podcast I give listeners insight into some of my favorites, where to shop and where to dine. There's also a few cook-it-yourself tips. Enjoy!
