Who is Sumi:
As a mom to daughter Shaila, he gig as group fitness instructor, personal trainer, fitness blogger, contributing author on the Brinkzone and at Ultimate Fat Burner, fitness model, and “super-motivator” is the stress relieving remedy that keeps her going!
She officially became hooked on fitness the moment she first laid hands on a set of her dad’s dumbbells at the age of 12. Her family’s encouragement of her athletic endeavors took her on a fitness journey where she achieved several milestones: losing all the baby weight less than 2 months after a C-section; bench pressing her own body weight; and finishing a 5k in her personal best time and regularly placing in her age class! These proud moments are especially important to her as an Indian woman given the tendency of our culture to dismiss the value of athletic activities, and I am as motivated as ever to be a role model for everyone seeking healthier lifestyles.
Her personal fitness journey continues and it just gets better and more exciting with time. She loves to lead by example and inspire people to “go for it,” whatever their fitness goals may be.

Neural Side of Strength and Performance with Stuart McGill and Bill Kazmaier
The theme could be the neural side of strength.
Activating the neuro-muscular compartments up and down.
Another topic is about what densifying neural drive.
"Strength starts as a thought and what are his thoughts and focus to create the greatest signal possible? In other words what is the thought of strength? Then the key is to get the nerves to carry this great amount of signal (pulse trains) - usually we use grinding exercises . Then the muscles must respond with great contraction."
Strength requires proximal stability in the linkage to create great strength distally in the linkage any special exercises or drills here? Obviously his breath (holding) was key. The brain shuts down strength when it detects instability.
Injuries occur at the regions of highest stress. The many small features that can enhance performance as well as injury resilience.
Training for bone and joint strength. For example after training a heavy deadlift or squat session take 3-4 days off. Did he do this to gain bone and joint strength? This would be very consistent with the science. I have had great talks with Ed Coan about this and long term joint resilience.
Good training technique, training cycles, and the cerebral side of strength.

Why do all diets fail ? With Lyle McDonald
Who is Lyle?
"I got interested in this field back in high school, a former fat kid I had mandatory sports in school and as I started to get into shape, my obsessive compulsiveness took over. I got into cycling one summer and did a few triathlons, got involved in martial arts and eventually gymnastics (via cheerleading).
This led me to UCLA to pursue a degree in kinesiology (exercise physiology) where I got even more embroiled in the research and science of human performance. Basically, I was a mediocre athlete who wanted to figure out how to get better.
At that time, I was involved in cycling and got into inline skating. I started racing, did moderately well (despite being horridly overtrained in hindsight) until I burned myself out, and ‘retired’. I futilely tried my hand at some strength sports, although I had always been in the weight room, finding that it improved my skating performance.
Around 1996, Dan Duchaine’s seminal book “Bodyopus” came out, it quite literally changed my life. It got me interested in low-carbohydrate dieting and led to the publication of my first book. Several more followed after a rather long break.
The second was an odd little drug booklet (although it dealt mostly with bodyweight regulation), then came the Ultimate Diet 2.0 which was an update on the original from over 20 years ago. Last year I released two books, the Rapid Fat Loss Handbook and a Guide to Flexible Dieting.
Over the years, I’ve worked with folks ranging from total beginners to a couple of female powerlifters, prepped a few bodybuilders for natural shows and trained the occasional endurance athlete in the weight room. Right now I’m in Salt Lake City following my own athletic quest, training full time for ice speed skating (I came out of retirement a couple of years ago) with my coach Rex Albertson.
Basically, I’m an obsessed physiology nerd who is fascinated with all aspects of human performance. This includes training, nutrition (I seem to be most well known for diet stuff but exercise physiology was actually my first passion), supplements and, to a much lesser degree, drugs.
Fat loss and bodyweight regulation fascinates me because I still see the fat kid in the mirror, sports performance fascinates me because I’ve always been a middle of the road athlete looking for solutions. And the rest of it fascinates me because I’m just a great big obsessed nerd that way."

Psychology Skills for Fitness, Performance and Life with Dr. Lisa Lewis
Who is Dr.Lisa Lewis : "I am a licensed psychologist with a strength-based, solution focus, and an active, collaborative style. Some of the clients I work with present with mental health concerns, while others come to work toward a specific achievement, or to pursue personal, career, fitness, and athletic goals. I have been working as a therapist since 2003, and over the years I have worked with a wide variety of concerns and populations.
For those who present with mental health concerns, I often work with individuals who struggle with relationships, depression, anxiety, or an addiction. As a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor (CADC-II) I work with people attempting to recover from an addiction, as well as clients who are negatively impacted by the addiction of someone close to them, like a friend, partner, or family member. I strive to be competent about and sensitive to differences in culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and sexuality, and view these differences as central to an individual’s experience and happiness.
With a passion for wellness and fitness, I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of maintaining a strong mind and a strong body. In addition to the clinical specialties I’ve mentioned, I have a background in sport and exercise psychology, and love to work with athletes and athletically-minded clients who hope to enhance performance or achieve a goal. I also provide services to athletes struggling with issues that are inferring with athletic performance.
While some of my clients describe our work together as traditional psychotherapy, others have used the terms “life coaching” and “consultation”. While all clients come to sessions with a ‘problem’, some focus on correcting negative thoughts, feelings, behaviors or relationships, while others focus on strength-building and life-enhancement.
In addition to providing individualized services, I have also worked with groups of fitness professionals and enthusiasts to provide education and consultation. Please see the Speaking and Workshops page for a description of seminars and workshops I have provided in the past. I’ve been a guest on multiple podcasts and written articles for a variety of websites as well.
Due to my years of experience in college counseling centers, I often work with young adults. My work with college and graduate school students most often focuses on questions concerning personal development, professional identity, and long term goals in both those areas. In addition to working with the University’s students, I also provide supervision to the counseling center’s clinical interns.
Currently, I serve as part time faculty at Northeastern University and teach classes including developmental psychology and abnormal psychology. I have also taught at Wheelock College and Salem State University, teaching undergraduate courses including developmental psychology, sport psychology, and exercise psychology

Dieting and Training with Coach Scott Abel
Now in his fourth decade in the fitness industry, Scott Abel has coached over 400 champions in fitness, bodybuilding, figure, and in sports. He’s worked with busy men and women to help them improve their bodies and their physiques.
Scott got started in bodybuilding in the early 1980s, while still at University in Canada. (Before then, he’d actually started out in a powerlifting gym, but found little success there.) He won several bodybuilding shows, but found he was more fulfilled dialling in other people — though he still became known in the industry for staying “guest-posing lean” year-round.
WATCH A VIDEO OF SCOTT GUEST-POSING In 1989 Scott was invited to be an expert at Muscle Camp in California. He’s worked as a ghost writer in fitness magazines, coached pro bodybuilders and elite athletes, and served on a number of advisory committees.
He is also a best-selling author on Amazon, hosts a popular fitness podcast, and still works directly with coaching clients who want to lose fat, gain muscle, and balance fitness with their extremely busy lives.
Scott’s background, though, is actually in social work. When he works one-on-one with clients, he focuses not just on the physical side, but on the mental and emotional aspects of real success and physique transformation. Scott works with bodybuilders, physique competitors, and everyday people just looking to look better. Whether you need help with food issues, or want Scott to dial you in for a show, Scott adapts his coaching style and programs to suit the client.

Look, feel and perform better as a Diabetic by Phil Graham
From an early age, I have been committed to developing my knowledge of health, fitness and nutrition. This obsession was inspired and motivated by a deep resolve to overcome my very own health struggles with was love after the first rep, and, the rest is history.
I didn’t understand what a proper diet or training program was, but regardless I made significant improvements to my overall health and body composition.
Driven by my passion for improving my health and becoming a better version of myself, I left school to pursue a degree in Nutrition at Queen’s University Belfast.
I spent five years learning about human physiology, nutrition and food technology (food processing and manufacturing). Since then I’ve gone on to complete many other professionally recognized qualifications specific to my role. These include a postgraduate diploma in public health promotion, Certified Sports Nutritionist with the International Society of Sports Nutrition and accredited for body composition assessment through The International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK)
Being armed with this information I was able to hand my diabetes much more effectively and at the same time make incredible changes to my body composition and performance. I wanted to prove to myself and others that diabetes wasn’t going to hold me back. Having seen firsthand how it crippled many others, I was adamant I wouldn’t be another statistic...
