Rockwell Church Messages

The Third of the Ten Commandments is:  “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” Exodus 20:7. This commandment is about so much more than “Don’t use God’s name as a curse word.” We have been given an awesome opportunity to have a personal relationship with the God of all creation and to experience His love – why would we want to carelessly disrespect His name? We are given the priviledge to ask for things in prayer using the authority of Jesus name. We are enabled to call on and proclaim God our Father, our Savior and Lord Jesus God in the flesh and God the Holy Spirit. We are warned God will penalize those who misuse His name and encouraged that properly magnifying God’s Holy name brings blessing and favor.

Come to Rockwell Church at 10:15am this Sunday as Pastor Chris shares Scriptures and examples on how you can magnify His Holy name. We will also have communion. A great Sunday to bring a friend.

God is the creator of life and also the one who decides when it ends. While abortion may seem like a convenient way to take care of an unplanned pregnancy it can have terrible, life long side effects and it ends the life of an innocent pre-born human being. On this Sanctity of Human Life Sunday we share Scripture, video clips and stories of those who considered or completed abortions. Our church shows grace and love to those who have made bad choices in the past. We hope to teach and encourage people to make the right choices in the future. Listen as we look at life, abortion and euthanasia.

Last week we talked about planting seeds for a life of significance. This week we share 5 easy ways to wreck your life. There’s a lot more than five, but the five we are sharing are foundational and transformational. These are five things the Bible says you don’t want to skip doing or you will be very disappointed later in life. Come to Rockwell Church and be encouraged to live a WELL Life.

Many gardeners like to look at seed catalogs in January to see what they can plant in the spring, enjoy during the summer and harvest in the fall. God designed our world with seasons, seedtime, harvest and getting more seeds for future planting. If we reap what we sow, what do we want to see grow in 2023? John the Baptist was a humble servant who said “I must decrease, and He (Jesus) must increase (John 3:30) and James reminded us that we don’t know what life will be like tomorrow (James 4:14-17) so we ought to be ready to flex and pivot to adjust to God’s plan for our lives. Luke 2:13-15 and Psalm 91. The Bible reveals some interesting things about these messengers from the Heavenly realm that are God's agents to help us and accomplish God's will. It also warns us that satan masquerades as an angel of light, and makes it clear that when we die we don't become angels. Christmas season is a fun time to pause and ponder Angels. Maybe we have even crossed paths with angels. Hebrews 13:2 says, "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." One of our favorite parts of the Christmas story is when Angels appear to the social- outcast shepherds and invite them to go see the newborn Savior of the world. What they heard and what they experienced gave them confidence to find the baby and share all they saw and heard. In Luke 2:20 we read the best line: “The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” This week at Rockwell Church be encouraged that those of us who have placed our hope and trust in Jesus will be praising God for all eternity as we are experiencing all that we have been told and promised through Gods’ Word. Even though people in your life may not seem to want to hear the Good News from you, will you be faithful to share it?

Jesus stepfather Joseph was given the great opportunity and the sometimes worrisome task of protecting and providing for Jesus and his mother Mary. Repeatedly an Angel would show up in Joseph’s dreams and tell him to move in a different direction to keep Jesus safe and to place Him right where God wanted Him to be. We read the Christmas story and see how this turned out well, but Joseph and Mary had to be faithful to trust God step by step, with a peace that surpasses understanding, even when their future was unclear. Watch or listen to be encouraged to trust God as He works out his plan in our lives and to experience peace that can only come from true faith in Jesus.

We are starting a new message series to celebrate the Hope found through Christ and help deal with the things that may hinder people from experiencing the true meaning of Christmas. The first message from Luke chapter 1 is about sharing hope even when we feel unworthy. Elizabeth felt too old, Zachariah was left speechless after his unbelief, and Mary was troubled when the Angel showed up and said God has chosen you to do the most significant and unheard of thing in all of human history. The people in this chapter of the Bible were used by God to help bring salvation and hope into the world.

We look at what the Bible says in Psalm 107 about being thankful, grateful and blessed even when life is difficult and you don’t know what’s going to happen next. Being thankful is an important part of worship. The Lord expects us to be grateful as He works things out in our lives and answers our prayers. When we follow God’s will and plans we can expect to be blessed. Be encouraged to see what God has done in the past and how we can trust Him with our future

We seem to make time for the things we value and desire. There’s an old hymn with a great back story called “Take Time to be Holy” that has encouraged Christ-followers for generations. It’s based on Hebrews 12:14, “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” The way we spend our time today can make a difference for eternity. Peace with God and others can make a huge difference now. Listen to be encouraged to pursue holiness and use your time wisely.  

We have been looking at the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis. Here’s a guy from a really dysfunctional family who stayed faithful to God all the way from the pit to the palace. Turns out all the twists and troubles in Joseph’s life were actually helpful for everyone involved, This is a great message to encourage those whose life isn’t really going exactly how they planned. We have been looking at the life of Joseph and his troubled family in the book of Genesis. In this week’s episode, while Joseph’s family struggles with their guilt from the past, Joseph finally reveals his true identity. We are looking at the life of Joseph and his troubled family in the book of Genesis. Joseph stayed faithful to God during the most difficult times of his life. His brothers kept their wicked secret from their father that they had threatened to kill Joseph, selling him into slavery, and convincing their dad that Joseph was killed by a wild animal. In this week’s episode, the brothers suspect their sins have found them out. What will they do now? Come to Rockwell Church this Sunday to be encouraged to own your past, seek forgiveness and find closure from guilt, shame and fear.

We are looking at the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis. A guy who kept his faith in God even when it seemed everything was against him. Today we see how Joseph finally experiences the freedom and success he was dreaming of. It’s one of those ah-hah moments when he can now look back and see how God was using the hard situations (and maybe even testing his faith) to get Joseph ready to fulfill God’s big purpose for his life. Listen and  be encouraged to trust in the Lord, and keep being faithful, even when things aren’t going the way you dreamed. It’s also communion Sunday. 

We are looking at how God worked in the life of Joseph from the book of Genesis. Joseph had big dreams and high expectations that were shattered by brothers who hated him so much they almost killed him, a slave owner who punished him even though Joseph did everything right, and some guys he met in prison that forgot to work to help him. While Joseph did not lose his faith in God during these hard times, I’m sure he wondered what God’s plan was and why He was allowing Joseph to suffer as a captive. Listen and be encouraged that faithful endurance can lead to a great future and a productive life.

We are looking at how God worked in the life of Joseph from the book of Genesis. As a teenager he had big dreams of a great destiny, yet everything seemed to be going in the opposite direction of that in his life. While he couldn’t control the difficult events that held him back, Joseph is a model of faithful consistency. Be encouraged to stay consistent in the hard times and reap the rewards when you experience your God-focused destiny.

How could one person go through so much trouble be so faithful and blessed? The first secret is he knew how to let go and trust God. Be encouraged to faithfully follow where the Lord leads you and truly be happy. 

Here comes another change of seasons, as we will soon shift from summer to fall. God created the world and us with a divine design for work and time. The Bible gives us a strategy to spend our time wisely and compels us to get the most important things done. Come to Rockwell Church this Sunday and be encouraged that the way you work (at your job site, school, or as a volunteer) really does matter to God.

God gives us church as a gift and a resource. Jesus loves the church His bride and sacrificed His life for her. Church is not a building. Church is a group of called people who share Jesus salvation, the empowering of the Holy Spirit, and our Heavenly Father. The church is on a mission to worship and server by meeting needs, reaching out and working together. Like the human body, the local church needs all of it’s members using their God given Spiritual gifts to to function.  We are privileged to have God’s revealed Word readily available in print, video, audio and online. There is so much to learn, discover and share with others. “Learning” is one of the purposes of our church. Learning experts tell us that we are truly understand a subject when we can teach it to others. The Bible is living and active and we can keep learning delightful truths as we grow in faith and knowledge throughout our lives. Jesus calls us to make disciples, teaching them to obey everything He has commanded. What are you learning and who are you teaching? Jesus was asked to summarize all that God desires from us and He said it’s to love God and love others. Many people are confused about what love really is and what God truly want us to be and do. Rockwell Church exists to help people of all ages connect to Christ the ROCK and live WELL Lives through Worshiping, Encouraging, Learning and Loving. This week we are looking at why we need to give and receive encouragement. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “So encourage each other and build each other up…” And 2 Corinthians 13:11 instructs Christ-followers, “…Be Joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Mark Bjorlo is the current Converge North Central President. Before that he was a successful church planter and lead pastor of the Journey North Church in Brainerd MN. He will also highlight the role mothers can play in helping the family find this identity. Winter is over, spring has sprung and hopefully this current swampy-mud season will lead to a quick green up. Jesus taught about seeds and how they grow and then are harvested – it’s interesting to think about. An old comedian Fred Allen used to say, “Most of us spend the first six days of each week sowing wild oats; then we go to church on Sunday and pray for a crop failure.”  What seeds are you planting in your life and what do you expect it to yield? If you don’t plant anything in the open areas of your life you can be sure some kind of weed will gladly take up that empty space. Our Good Friday Service is a time to worship and reflect on Jesus suffering and being crucified. He shed His blood to make the perfect sacrifice for our sin. He was forced to wear a crown of thorns and mockingly called the King of the Jews. In the future He will return as the King of Kings and everyone will bow to Him. It’s Palm Sunday and we are going to focus on how Jesus, motivated by awesome joy, purposefully went to the cross to rescue us from our sins. Pastor Chris will share seven things that will help you experience and spread that kind of joy. Hebrews 12:2–3 says, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. It’s Communion Sunday - a perfect time to reflect on how you have been spending your life and choose to recommit to pursuing the Lord’s plans for us. When you were in school did you ever listen closely to your teacher or professor to find out what was on the test or how to get a good grade? In Mark 12:28-34 Jesus told us clearly that if we do two things we will be on the way to a life well lived. As you know, they are to love God and love your neighbor – pretty simple right? But what does that really mean and what are some ways we can put that into practice? God is all powerful and able to help you accomplish His purposes for your life. He guides and provides according to His perfect timing and sovereign will often answering prayer in amazing ways. While this famous verse is sometimes used out of context to declare that we can selfishly do whatever we want, it is still a powerful promise when we are in God’s divine plan that says “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Phil 4:13 NLT). Life becomes a great adventure when we step out in faith knowing that we can’t in our own strength but through Christ we can do everything He desires. I have made a lot of friends through church connections over the years. Often when people visit our church they are looking to see if there are people they can become friends with. Serving Jesus with others is a great adventure and we are usually more fruitful when we aren’t ministering all alone. The Old and New Testament is full of stories of friends. Your attitude can determine your direction. impact the choices you make, and affect the way people respond to you. In championship sports or in love your attitude can open or close doors of opportunity and be one of the biggest keys to your success. Paul coaches the Philippians that “…their attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5). Like a bad winter storm, conflict can blow in when we least expect it. The Apostle Paul’s life was full of trouble as he was misunderstood by those inside and outside of the church and he was being held in a Roman prison. In his letter to the church at Philippi, he taught how we should respond to adversity and relationship problems. Wondering what comes next and having no idea how much longer you have to wait to find out can be very stressful. Some of the most stressful times come when life doesn’t go as planned. When you get trapped in circumstances you can’t control or you don’t know how you are going to be able to move forward you can either shut down or keep persevering. In the Philippians 1:12-19 we see how the apostle Paul got stuck chained in prison when he expected to be traveling around proclaiming Jesus and establishing new churches. Life can be really stressful when relationships get messy. Sometimes we experience trouble with family, friends, coworkers or even church people. Christmas is more than a historical story, a cultural tradition, or just a church remembrance. Christmas is the time of year we celebrate Jesus, our Emmanuel, who came to earth to teach us how to live and through his sacrifice makes it possible for us to live with Him forever. While it can seem like the Christian life is a list of impossible to follow rules, it is actually a grace-filled relationship that leads to inner peace and an outward behavior change. Dictionary.com defines “awesome” as an adjective. causing or inducing awe; inspiring an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear: an awesome sight. exhibiting or marked by awe. Mary in the Christmas story had awesome faith and was chosen to be Jesus mother. She was willing to play a lead role in God’s plan even though she did not fully understand it. This Sunday our topic is about sleep, rest and recreation.  God who created us knows that we need to recharge by resting and enjoying life with a little recreation. Did you know that rest and sleep is a gift from God? “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones”. Psalm 127:2 (NLT). When we are anxious we can suffer sleepless nights and when things aren’t going as we hope we can get restless. A Topical Bible “Sleep” Study reveals some very interesting things about sleep, rest and recreation and we are going to look at some of them this Sunday. In this life we are surrounded by a million opportunities to buy stuff but are often frustrated that we can’t have much of it because we don’t have the millions of dollars needed to get it. Some of us have too much stuff and some of us really do need more stuff. The stuff you choose to purchase, keep, give away and throw away can define the kind of life you live. I have met millionaires who appeared poor and poor people deep in debt trying to appear to be millionaires. The Bible has a lot to say about money and possessions, including Paul instructing Timothy, “Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth…. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:6,10. Don’t spend your life trying to find contentment apart from God!
