Welcomes to the for the king podcast, and that king being Jesus Christ, the son of God, today I have Jason Szeftel with me. He is a political and economic writer specializing in the nation of China. He mainly focuses on economic and political dimensions of China but today he is joining me to speak about the religious atmosphere in China and more specifically Christianity.

This Wednesday I am joined by an old friend of mine from college, Chris Anderson. In this episode we walk through what he does as a coach for a little 500 team and how he uses it to impact the lives of the people not only on the team, but also in the race. We then turn a fundamental principle in the Christian faith. That principle is best laid out in the Latin phrase "Soli Deo Gloria" translated... to God alone be the Glory. We must remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ on the sermon on the mount,

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Continuing on our Gospel foundations series, this week, we walk through how substitutionary atonement is crucial when understanding the gospel. We must believe and trust in Jesus Christ as our substitute on the cross. He bore the punishment that was due us. We remember in God's word as it says in Isaiah 53: 4-5 and 11-12,

"Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."

"Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors."

The prior week to this episode we walked through the great transaction known as double imputation. One may ask after hearing that Jesus has fulfilled the law and that we can receive that righteousness that comes through fulfilling that law through double imputation, how can I enter into that great transaction? The answer is through faith but as with any theological truth, we could always go deeper than the mere answer. This episode I walk through Canada's new horrific bill that has royal ascent and to be put into legislation 30 days after that ascent. The bill criminalized up to 5 years in prison for forcing any individual to undergo conversion therapy (in other words counseled in a biblical worldview of human sexuality). You can also be imprisoned for up to 2 years for just advertising the practice. After that I walk though one of Joe Rogan's recent guests, Peter A. McCullough and his clinical expertise on how the nation has reacted to Covid-19 and his claim that the church along with the rest of the world has undergone a mass psychosis similar to that in cults and Nazi Germany.

Last week Bryce and I walked through how Jesus has fulfilled the law in all righteousness in his obedient life on earth. Jesus was without sin, yet we are with sin as laid out in our episode "Our fall and the Gospel". So, how can we ever hope to achieve a foreign righteousness that is not our own? The bible lays out a clear mechanism by which we can receive Christ's righteousness and lose our guilt of sin that we have procured for ourselves. Last time on the Sunday series, we spoke about the law and the gospel and how we ought to think about the two together. Building on that episode we walk through how foundational to the gospel is the understanding that the law that we have transgressed, Christ has completely followed and fulfilled in his obedient life, obedience even unto the cross that he died on. This is a foundational truth to the gospel, Christ must have kept the law that we broke for there to be any hope in the gospel.

Many think that we are now no longer "under the law" but under Christ in the gospel. While this is partly true it reeks of antinomianism. Lets not fall into this trap of thinking that just because we are in Christ that we no longer need God's law or want God's law. God's law is refreshing reviving the soul. It is to be delighted in because it is good and shows us the very nature of God himself. While it no longer condemns us in Christ it is our standard of holiness to walk in through the spirit. The law & the Gospel are intimately connected, let us not forget this!

My guest this week is Patrick Melder. Patrick is a trained Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon, and sleep specialist. He trained at Walter Reed Army Medical center and was on active duty with the US Army for 13 years. He left the Army in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel and started his private practice career. Jesus has has done so many things by spilling his blood for us on the cross. Among those is that of redemption. Redeeming something entails paying a ransom to restore something to yourself but also at a cost to yourself, not because the thing is inherently worth it. There is an element of worth in the transaction but to God we are by no means worthy of the death of his son. It ought to humble ourselves into subjection to him.

This past weekend was my bachelor party! I am mere days away from getting married and I am beyond excited to be united to my bride, the love of my life. To celebrate such an event my brother and a few friends went on a hiking trip for my bachelor party! It was an amazing time and I was reminded of the importance of Christain fellowship and how more important it will be to me as a married man in desperate need of prayer to love and cherish my wife as Christ did the church. I am not including this book review in my monthly book review episode because there is far too much to interact with. This Sunday we finish our series on Biblical Gender Roles. We have seen how gender roles apply in homes and churches, but to keep ourselves consistent with what scripture teaches, we must extend its application to the civil sphere and beyond as well. God has designed the world a certain way. Gods word, logic, reasoning, mathematics, etc. are all used in God's world. They help guide us and are used in every walk of life. We have been slowly walking through a biblical worldview when considering gender roles. This week I use Zach Garris' book as a resource to quote a few feminist from he 1st wave in the 1850's. They knew what the bible CLEARLY taught about biblical gender roles and by golly did they hate it. I labor to expose you all to what they said about biblical principles and analyze what has caused them to say such things. Lets not let the feminist understand what the bible clearly teaches about the patriarchy be more robust and accurate than ours... *ahem* egalitarians/complementarians *ahem*.

This week Bryce and I continue to walk through biblical masculinity and femininity. We move first, after defining our terms three weeks ago, to the home, and now to the church. The church is the bulwark against an evil and God-hating world. The church has been tasked with the proclamation of the gospel through public gathering and worship of God and sending families out into our communities to win the nations to Christ. For the organization to run well God has instituted certain members of his church to be leaders and servants of the church known as elders and deacons. This week bryce and I walk through how masculinity and femininity play out in the church. Certain men being the leaders and the rest of the men and women to follow them who ultimately follow Christ. So, we plant our anchor in the home where men and women have specific roles they play out, without which all of society will collapse. This episode I walk through The Fear of God by John Bunyan. It was a wonderful read and something definitely worth picking up. The contemporary church doesn't speak much about the fear of God, but I assure you that after reading this book by Bunyan you will be well informed. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This week on the Sunday Series, Bryce and I begin a new series on gender roles as defined by the creation order in the bible. Gender is thought to be a social construct that changes with society/culture. Biblically we know that our gender, and the gender roles inherent in each gender, are defined by God alone and not mankind. Gender does not change and Gender roles do not change. God has told us what these things are and how we ought to think about them. The human mind is spectacular but not spectacular enough to undo the things God has already put into us. The weeks following, Bryce and I will continue to walk through biblical gender roles and how Christians ought to think about them based on various passages in the bible. Recently, Bryce and I walked through why the theory of relativity, not Einstein's theory ;), is a foolish and contradictory worldview to hold. This week Bryce and I press the issue further with a short talk objectivity and why it is precious for the Christian to cling to. One of Christianity's most prevalent form of relativism is emotionalism in the Church. Bryce and I use emotionalism as a case study for relativism in the church. Enjoy and thanks for listening!

When Paul is requesting what Timothy do when he comes back to him from his journey, he requests books and parchments. Who knows exactly what Paul was reading outside of the scriptures, but we do know that he valued books greatly. Gods word is given to us in books and books have been a conduit for information all throughout human history. This book review, I was only able to read one book this month. It was a good one though, tune in because you may want to read it!

So many people think that the buck stops with them when it comes to truth and reality. An often refrain in our society is, "This is my truth", which tells us a lot of what our postmodern society thinks about truth. Something may very well be true to you and you may very well believe it but that does not mean that is is true. Truth is something external to us. The scriptures paint a clear picture that truth is objective and external to human experience or interpretation. An author always has an intent in something that they do because the intent is what drives the action itself. There is a true reality to all things and we know that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Join Bryce and I this week as we display what God has told us about what truth is and interact with our cultures claim of truth being relative.

This week, my guest (Bryce) and I dive into the second part of a two part series concerning effeminacy in men. The first part was geared more towards soft, weak, effeminate men in our society and that behavior being condemned in scripture. This week we dive into effeminacy in its fruition, namely homosexuality. This sin has been welcomed and invited in our evangelical Christian circles in America. The church has largely capitulated on this issue and terms such as "gay Christian" are now commonplace even in "reformed" circles. The scriptures are extremely clear on the topic although our culture would war against it. Christians cannot serve two masters. Thanks for listening!

One sin that has flown under the radar for a considerable amount of time in our society is the sin of effeminacy in men. Today Bryce and I make a biblical case on why this is indeed a sin for a man to be effeminate and what effeminacy can look like in society. We walk through practical steps to overcome such sinfulness and how to be watchful against it in our own lives as men.

This week Bryce and I explore the idea of freedom in the scriptures. Some of our favorite moments in film and history involve individuals fighting for freedom. Christ is the ultimate freedom fighter and is the model that all other freedom fighters, knowingly or unknowingly, model when they give their lives for the sake of freedom.
