Ep 7 - Keeping Your SCR Clean for Maximum Efficiency, with Jeff Shelton
What do air cannons and sonic horns have in common? They play key roles in keeping SCR catalyst clean and functioning at maximum efficiency. Listen to learn more about why this is importnat, as we interview our very own Jeff Shelton!
Ep 6 - Catalyst, Fuel, and the Changing SCR Market with Scott Hinton
Today's guest is Scott Hinton! Scott received his B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in Chemical Engineering. He has worked in the fossil fueled power industry for over 30 years, with his career starting with Southern Company where he was involved with one of the first SCR demonstration projects as part of the DOE's clean coal program. Since that time he has done research and consulted for the industry, focusing on SCR, along with other back-end control technologies. Today he is the head of W.S. Hinton and Associates, an SCR consulting firm based in Florida.

Episode 5 - Sonic Horns and Acoustic Cleaning with Jake Shelton of ACS
Our guest today is Jake Shelton of ACS!
ACS is the leading supplier of acoustic cleaners and replacement parts to the utility industry. Jake has been working with various types of acoustic cleaners since the 1980s. He has provided technical sales and business development services to companies such as Drayton Corporation, BHA, GE Energy, SCR Tech & Cormetech. He’s been involved with the installation of 1,000s of acoustic cleaners on 100s of SCRs around the world. Recently, he has been assisting plants with the improving the operation of the existing acoustic cleaners with Magnum Sound Generators. Topics covered:
- origins of acoustic cleaning
- benefits of acoustic cleaning
- important tips for maintenance of sonic horns
- why the Magnum Sound Generators are the best in the business
Episode 4 - SCR, LPA, and Preventive Maintenance with Andrew Kline of IGS
Today's guest expert is Andrew Kline of IGS.
Andrew is an engineer and is currently a Business Development Director at IGS, and he has a decade of experience working with, inspecting, and designing SCR and associated hardware.
- SCR/LPA scree inspections are often underutilized by plants because it is not seen as a primary focus.
- It is important to plan for the future when thinking about your SCR and its performance, especially in light of the new NOx regulations. This is especially true since NOx credits are not a viable option anymore.
- LPA, ash distribution, and gas distribution are key things to consider when thinking about your SCR. Air cannons, sonic horns, and catflow screens are crucial to keeping a clean SCR.
- IGS can create custom-designed solutions to help a plant's SCR.
- "Understanding the data is the first step in solving the problem"

Ep 3 - SCR-Related Equipment, with Troy Langley
Today's guest expert is Troy Langley! Troy has years of experience working in the industry and has been doing SCR-related installs for about a decade. In our interview, we discussed LPA screens, catflow screens, air cannons, and more; all in the context of how they are used to aid in SCR applications.

Ep 1 - SCR Basics with Jeff Shelton
Today's episode is an interview with our guest expert Jeff Shelton, president of Dracyon Corp and internationally recognized SCR expert. In the past Jeff has created and sold two companies, Halcyon Technologies and Drayton Corp, and he has also spent time working for IGS, and Martin Engineering. He has been involved in developing and designing SCR technology for decades, and has been interviewed in multiple international publications about SCR. He has also co-authored the book Global SCR Study, which discussed buildup problems in SCR reactors and their various solutions. He is an internationally recognized expert in all things SCR.
SCRs reduce the emissions of NOX into the atmosphere.
I am proud of what SCRs have done for the environment in the United States.
SCRs are part of the solution, allowing us to produce power in an economical manner and still protect the environment.
Good efficiency from an SCR protects our environment and makes power plants money.
