In this 20-minute podcast, we discuss three areas relating to supporting newly arriving children from Ukraine into Irish primary schools:-
1. Primary School Life in Ukraine
Firstly, we speak to Iryna Britanova-Listratenko, a Ukrainian teacher who recently arrived in Ireland with her daughter Sasha. Iryna provides an insight into how the Ukrainian primary school system operates. She also details the first-hand reality of a child leaving their native country at such short notice in unprecedented circumstances.
2. Admission Considerations and Department of Education Supports
Secondly, Fergal Kelly, Catholic Primary School Management Association (CPSMA) Education Advisor, outlines admission considerations for schools enrolling Ukrainian children, as well as current and planned supports from the Department of Education.
3. Advice for School Staff Supporting Children in a time of War
Finally, Michelle McCarthy, Educational Psychologist with the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS), offers advice for school staff in relation to the integration of pupils arriving from a country at war, as well as considerations for existing school pupils.

February 2021 – a phased return to Primary Education
Thursday February 11th sees the phased return to in-school provision for pupils in Special Schools. Pupils attending Special Classes in Mainstream Schools will return to in-school provision on Monday 22nd February 2021.
In this podcast, CPSMA addresses a number of questions raised by school management in relation to the Department of Education’s framework for the safe reopening of special schools and special classes in this interim phased arrangement.

Schools Pathway for Covid-19 a podcast hosted by CPSMA
On Thursday 17th September 2020, CPSMA hosted a webinar with Dr. Kevin Kelleher, Assistant National Director of Public Health, HSE, and a member of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) and Dr. Abigail Collins, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with HSE.
The objective of the webinar was to provide our members with an insight into the operation of the Schools Pathway for Covid-19 from the Public Health HSE perspective, and to address many of the questions raised by our members since our schools reopened.
