A Tribute to Robbie Robertson, and revisiting The Band with Tyrell Lissen
On August 9th, Canadian music icon Robbie Robertson passed away. Robertson was a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and movie score composer. He was part of one of our favorite bands, The Band, of which we've reviewed two of their incredible albums (self-titled at #57, and Music From Big Pink at #100). Robertson's work with the Band was instrumental in creating the Americana music genre. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Band, and into Canada's Walk of Fame, with the Band and on his own.
In tribute, we thought it would be nice to revisit our conversation with Tyrell Lissen, host of the incredible The Band: A History podcast. We also encourage you to go check out Andrew Hickey's (our special guest on our review of Back To Mono) latest episode of A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs where he talks specifically about The Band and their hit song, The Weight.
As a reminder, you can find our favorite songs from the RS500 on our Spotify playlist right here - we'll be updating it as we go with our favorite songs from each album!

Was It Sound Logic? Re-Ranking Albums 91 to 100
We made it to 100! That nice round number means that the time has come once again for us to review and re-rank the last 10 albums. We had a great time reminiscing over the music we have listened to, with some incredible guests including our own daughters! And we're gearing up for our next block of albums. We're busy getting ready for this next batch - stay tuned to hear more as we continue to go through this list of the greatest albums!
As always, we love getting feedback from you! Please send us a message and tell us what you like about these re-ranking episodes, and what you might have us do differently. Leave us a voicemail, and maybe you will be the next guest on the podcast!

#100: Music From Big Pink by The Band (with our special guest, Jason Crane!)
We made it to 100!!! We're thrilled to have a Canadian group here in this milestone slot - even if it is an album we've already previously reviewed. We'll introduce the episode talking about the position shift of this fantastic album from The Band, dropping from 34 on the previous list all the way down to the 100 spot.
This week we will also revisit a conversation with Jason Crane (podcast host of The Jazz Session and A Brief Chat!), his second time on the podcast (go back and listen to Ep. 12 - Miles Davis' Kind of Blue if you haven't already). Jason joined us to help us understand why this mostly-Canadian band called The Band is so important (at the time we were pretty clueless!).

#99: Red by Taylor Swift (with our special guests, Lily Jones and Anika Wideman!)
We think that if Taylor Swift made a "Taylor's Version" of The Sound Logic Podcast, she'd probably get our oldest children - Lily and Anika - to join us as our very special guests (or are they the hosts?)!!
Taylor Swift's iconic album Red, was her crossover from her country music beginnings. A beloved favorite of Swifties the world over, we're taking a look to figure out some of the nuances of this album, it's inclusion in the Rolling Stone list, and how it will stand the test of time. We'll see what our guests think - our youngest guests on The Sound Logic Podcast - and reflect on our own thoughts about this global music superstar.

#98: Car Wheels on a Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams (with our special guests, Pia Smal and Susan Marshall!)
If you were a teenager in the 90s who totally missed out on Lucinda Williams, you're not alone! Mike and Ben have been scratching their heads wondering how they missed this fantastic album - enough so that we reached out to have some guests join us! State College, PA friends of Ben, Pia Smal and Susan Marshall, got to see Lucinda Williams when she visited State College a few years back, and we're thrilled to have them with us on this episode of the podcast!
It's July 1st today - Happy Canada Day to our Canadian listeners!

#97: Master of Puppets by Metallica (with our special guest, Peter Buck!)
Yes, we realize it may have been more appropriate to have a guest named Peter Buck on our last episode when we discussed R.E.M... but we think you'll agree that THIS Peter Buck is far more suited to talk about metal! We're thrilled to have a guest who has actually taught a class on metal music - especially one with as much love and appreciation for Metallica's iconic Master of Puppets album! This album has jumped from its one time place at #167 all the way up into the top 100 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest albums. We're in for a special treat here, as Peter brings his wealth of music composition knowledge, and draws the lines and connects the dots between classical music, jazz, rock, and thrash metal. We hope you have as much fun on this journey as we did!

#96: Automatic For The People by R.E.M. (with our special guest, Scott Williams!)
In 2021, the world lost a passionate R.E.M. fan when Michael Iafrate passed away. Michael was an incredible individual who Ben had met at a conference after discovering their shared love of faith, justice, and music. Michael was described in his obituary as the following: Father. Partner. Son. Brother. Friend. Activist. Liberation theologian. Singer-songwriter. Musician. Magician. Artist. Vegetarian. Voice impersonator. Advocate. Bibliophile. Writer. Teacher. Student. Seeker. Punk. We share this conversation in his honor, joined by his friend, Scott Williams, who shared fandom of this band and this album with Michael. R.E.M.'s iconic album, Automatic For The People comes in at #96 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest albums of all time, and we can't wait to talk about this one in honor of Michael Iafrate. We hope you enjoy this conversation!
