Samaritans is a registered charity that provides emotional support to anyone in times of emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide throughout Great Britain and Ireland. Samaritans is a free, 24-hour service. you can call them any time on 116 123. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, the quickest way to get help is to call an ambulance on 999.  The Samaritans website is an incredible resource full of mental health tips, explainer videos and support for those supporting others. The Speak On panel discusses #MeToo, including their own moments and the impact the movement has had globally. The viral campaign created a global watershed moment when it first exploded onto social media in 2017. Victims of sexual abuse and inappropriate behaviour have come out in their thousands on Twitter and other social media using the hashtag to talk openly about their experiences and raise awareness of this issue. From unsolicited comments and catcalling through to serious assault, the panel asks what can be done to solve this ongoing and widespread problem. The panel also explores when the allegations have been met with comments that could be called 'victim blaming'. These statements (some from high-profile women) suggest that those who have experienced sexual assault can themselves be at fault, echoing the shocking 'asking for it' sentiment. So, as women, do we have a responsibility for our own safety?
