Men's Health Week: The Pressure To Be Buff & Toxic Masculinity

This week we revisit our online event series ‘We Need To Talk About Mental Health’ which we hosted back in November. For Men’s Health Week, we’ve picked our favourite bits from two of the talks that covered all things body image, the concept of masculinity, mental health, men’s wellness and so much more. If you like what you hear, these talks in full plus the rest of this event series is available for free over on our YouTube Channel: https://bit.ly/35sHmZH

Thanks so much to our incredible guest. Full line up:

Speak On: This is How Racism Feels...

Speak On: This is How Racism Feels...

Special Episode: This is how racism feels
It’s the end of a hard few weeks and as you can see from the news there’s been some progress for Black Lives Matter due to the protests, but it doesn’t end here. Because this is about so much more. This isn’t a political issue, this is about humanity. There are no competing concepts of the good in this, Racism is bad.

This is the audio from a video I made and shared on Instagram.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CBDQKNLHagk/

I decided to share it because it captures my emotions at a very difficult time. I though that people needed to see it as so many people were disconnected from this subject, but it also helped a lot of people express how they felt at the time.

Speak On: Is Social Media Ruining Our Lives?

Speak On: Is Social Media Ruining Our Lives?

We are increasingly spending more time on our social media. Because of this, people are asking ‘Is social media a good or bad thing?’, ‘Does it impact society positively?’ and ‘Is it bad for your mental health?’.

Social media influences how we interact with our friends, our family. We watch loads of video content via YouTube, Instagram, etc., and we’re also finding partners on dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble. As a result, do you feel that social media is feeding our misconceptions of who we are and how our audiences perceive us? Do people create experiences just so they can share them on their social media? Is there pressure to portray that you’re living a perfect life?

The Speak On panel discuss social media and the influence it has on the way we share information.

When a hot topic appears on your Facebook timeline or Twitter newsfeed, do you think before liking and reposting?

With so much misinformation and ‘fake news’ coming onto our screens, we’re asking ‘are people too quick to react to and share content before doing a bit of research first?’.

Do you take the opportunity to look into content before liking and reposting?
