Indefinite Hiatus
(Bonus audio: "Glasses", by Jonathan Coulton, the S.S. Librarianship theme song. Used by permission).
Back in the heyday of Television Without Pity, when a show went off the air, they would often assign it the status of "Indefinite Hiatus." In some ways this was a brilliant flash of foresight about the future of TV - they were anticipating that some beloved shows would never be over for good in the age of Netflix and crowdfunding. But it always seemed, too, like a rather poetic nod to the fact that the media we love never really ends, because we can always return to it again and again, often discovering it anew as we continue to grow and change beyond the era it was made and the perspectives we held.
You've probably noticed that S.S. Librarianship has been quiet for a while. We've decided that, for the foreseeable future, this project is over for us. We've loved the ride, and we've so appreciated the responses we've gotten and the opportunities the show has given us to engage in conversation with each other and with so many brilliant and fascinating friends and colleagues. We're very proud of this podcast as a body of work and a testament to our passion for our profession and all our other favourite things.
We'll keep the site up and running for the time being, which means you can return to this feed or to this page to access the archives. We hope the show continues to be discovered by new librarians and new nerds, and continues to provide something useful, or at least entertaining, to all who listen.
We're also not shutting the door completely on podcasting in general. Right now we're both pretty busy with work and life, but we see each other often, and we've never stopped enjoying talking to each other and everyone else about the things we love and the issues we care about. So we may very well be back before you know it, in some form or another. In the meantime you can find us on Twitter individually: Alli is @navillusnosilla and Sam is @dothenextthing. And we still get emails at sslibrarianship@gmail.com.
That's all there is for now, friends. We'll catch you on the proverbial flipside.
