In this episode, Educational Consultant, Katie Marshall speaks with Jason Haap, Educational Consultant with Hamilton County ESC about trauma and compassion fatigue. Jason has been in education since 1997, where he started as a high school English teacher – working in parochial, charter, and public schools for 15 years before becoming a school improvement consultant with Hamilton County ESC working in many areas including the area of trauma informed care and resiliency. In this episode, Jason helps us to better understand compassion fatigue/secondary trauma, increases our awareness of its risk factors and management, and provides strategies for better supporting our educators.

In this episode, Urban Regional Literacy Specialist Jessica Hoffman speaks with Joe Stahl, Instructional Literacy Coach in West Clermont School District. Joe serves in two elementary schools as well as the district preschool program, supporting teachers and leaders with literacy improvement. In this episode, he shares his experiences transitioning from a Balanced Literacy to Structured Literacy approach to instruction--the successes, the challenges, and tips for districts who are just beginning this journey.

According to the National Association of Gifted Children…The term “twice-exceptional,” or “2e,” is often used to describe gifted children who, have both the characteristics of giftedness with the potential for high achievement and exceptional performance, and the characteristics of students with disabilities exhibiting struggles and/or significant delays in various areas of academic and/or social performance that is often not commensurate with their innate abilities. This podcast highlights critical issues with assessment and barriers for students who are "2e", as well as deposits possible solutions that schools and districts can leverage to help meet their diverse needs.

This episode introduces our listeners to the reasoning behind the podcast that we have begun at SST 13.  We are excited about the opportunity to record and share conversations that we are having with educational leaders around the region.
