Marie and David Osmond- a candid conversation about Christmas Joy
Hope and Resilience was the message from this heartwarming interview with David and Marie Osmond. They have an upcoming show at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Thursday, December 22nd, at 730pm. Stephanie got to catch up with David and Marie to talk about Christmas in the Osmond household and the current tour.
Marie not only gushes about how David is wonderful to share a stage with but shares her message that miracles are still happening, and her promise to deliver a little Christmas now is just what we all need.
This informal chat is a very open and honest conversation between Marie and David, and they both convey so much love and light. I hope everyone takes in the show at PPAC.

Grooving with The GroovaLottos
The GroovaLottos was in the house!
Stephanie got to sit down with The Professor and ZYG 808! They talked about the past, present, and future of The Groovalottos!
From their Website:
SEVEN THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE GROOVALOTTOS The GroovaLottos are a multi-Grammy-nominated, soul-funk-Afrobeats jam band, formed in 2009 by veteran touring and studio session players and singers; whose resumes included Motown, Wilson Pickett, Rufus Thomas, Howlin' Wolf, and Angie Stone. Now, as a merry band of frontmen, they turn every show into a party and a revival. The band is built around a prescribed musical philosophy and work ethic, allowing personnel changes without sacrificing quality. The band loves playing festivals and concerts, but smaller venues where they can engage and interact with the audience are their favorite gigs. The current lineup consists of core members: Mwalim, keyboards & vocals; Chuck V., bass, guitar, and vocals; and The ZYG 808, drums, percussion, vibraphone, and vocals. Also in the crew are vocalist & percussionist, Shadowmaster; and bassist Richard Johnson. Their 2016 debut single "Do You Mind…?" spent 41 weeks in the top ten of the Indie Blues/Americana charts. Their debut album, "Ask Yo' Mama," earned 4 Grammy nominations in Pop and R&B in one year and two more nominations in Rock and R&B the following year. The current drummer, The ZYG 808, was a student of the band's founding drummer, the late Eddie Ray Johnson. The GroovaLottos are looking to work with and produce other artists in various genres. They are the house session band and staff producers for Polyphonic Studios in Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, owned by band keyboardist, Mwalim. The professor educates Stephanie on Kwanza, and Groovalottos released 7 Lights, a Kwanza song that "doesn't suck."

Pat Ryan Local Artist heading Jazz Series at Limani
Pat Ryan came through the studio this week and told us about what he has coming up and where he is now with his music.
Here are some excerpts from his latest interview with the Falmouth Enterprises JOANNE BRIANA-GARTNER
"A presence on the Cape’s music scene for nearly three decades, Mr. Ryan is a performer, educator, organizer, and promoter, primarily of jazz music. One of his influences was Eric Jackson, host of WGBH’s “Eric in the Evening.” Mr. Jackson died last month. “He was known as ‘The Dean of Boston Jazz Radio,’ and he educated listeners with his thoughtful, personable curation of music, presented beautifully and consistently,” Mr. Ryan said. “I was a huge fan.”
“We brought many great musicians to Falmouth, some even before they became widely known, like Esperanza Spalding and Jon Batiste,” Mr. Ryan said. “We brought the late guitarist Pat Martino, Grammy-nominated vocalist and Hyannis native Kate McGarry, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, Arturo O’Farrill, Dizzy Gillespie’s Alumni All-Stars, and many other renowned artists. We also featured fine local and regional talent, including the Falmouth High School jazz band.”
Limani will feature live jazz on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 PM, beginning October 19. More information can be found on the venue’s website or at PatRyanMusic.net

Brad Hallen from the Nervous Eaters
Stephanie got a chance for a quick chat with Brad Hallen the Bassist for Boston punk legends Nervous Eaters about their new single "Wild Eyes," and upcoming album on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. Two members are local Cape Cod boys and they have a show coming up at The Music Room in W. Yarmouth on Aug. 11.
The Eaters were contemporaries of acts like the Ramones, The Police, Iggy Pop, The Pretenders, and a host of others, and eventually became the house band for the fabled Boston punk rock club The Rat, where they played with a who's who of punk and new wave luminaries, including The Police, The Ramones, The Cars, Patti Smith, Dead Boys, Iggy Pop, The Stranglers, Go-Go's and many others.
Fun Fact: The Cars' Ric Ocasek produced the band's original demos, which got the band signed to Elektra Records back in the day.
The band, led by founder Steve Cataldo, also features an amazing lineup of players including other Boston rock vets, bassist Brad Hallen (of Ministry, Ric Ocasek and The Joneses), drummer David McLean (of Willie Alexander's Boom Boom Band) and guitarist/vocalist Adam Sherman (of Private Lightning), and between them, they have recorded and/or toured with such artists as Ministry, Iggy Pop, Aimee Mann, Jane Wiedlin, Susan Tedeschi, Jimmie Vaughan, Lenny Kaye and many others.

Will Evans
Stephanie was pumped to chat with Will and he was gracious enough to take time during rehearsal to talk with her.
Below is from Will's website!
"Will Evans has spent the last decade as the primary songwriter and frontman for the New England-based roots-rock outfit Barefoot Truth. After four albums and 50+ million streams on Pandora & Spotify, he’s embarked on his solo journey—carrying along some of the Jack Johnson-ish vibes from his earlier band. He’s since released three additional full-length albums and traveled the U.S. & Europe several times over.
In his shows, Evans displays technical mastery of live-looping that showcase his skills as a multi-instrumentalist, including the didgeridoo, steel drums, percussive beatboxing, acoustic guitar, and layers of soulful vocals.
His album “Rise” was nominated for three categories by the New England Music Awards. The album features deeply personal topics of humanity, compassion, and a reflection of the current political times. While promoting the album, he toured extensively with his friend and fellow conscious-roots musician Trevor Hall, performing for sold-out crowds across North America and Europe. In 2020 Evans released ‘The Summer Swell,’ a 3-song live EP, as well as a new summer-vibed single: “Lean In.”
ENVIRONMENT, HOPE, AND INCLUSION
A lifelong surfer and environmentalist, Evans’ songs speak to the importance of connecting with—and protecting—the earth. At a time when so many are looking for words of inspiration and reassurance, his songs deliver messages of family, love, hope, and inclusion."

The 2022 Cape Cod Academy Dance Marathon; in person again!
In 2009, after her battle with invasive breast cancer, Jenn Rako asked Stephanie Viva if she would DJ a dance marathon for breast cancer, and without hesitation, she answered, "YES." This year will be in-person after the last two years of a virtual marathon! It will be the 12th but 10th in-person, and everyone is thrilled.
Cape Cod Academy has been the host for the bulk of the Marathons, and the Pink Ribbon Club has done a fantastic job fundraising and giving this event a home.
Jenn started the Women's Early Detection (WED) Fund in 2017, which is now funded by more than just the CCA Dance Marathon.
Here is the Impact Statement for the WED Fund (Women's Early Detection), the beneficiary of each Cape Cod Academy Dance Marathon. You can see how the fund has done since its inception and last year. It is rewarding to benefit women through Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation with potentially life-saving diagnostic procedures not covered by insurance.
We are looking forward to the event on April 30th from 3-7 PM. In addition to students from Cape Cod Academy, there will be dancers, and their families and friends from Beth Walsh Dance Centre, Dance Designs, Dance Factory Plymouth, Harper Dance Center, and Open Space Studio, Inc. We are open to the public.
You can save 50% on the admission charge (pay only $10) if you pre-register. This can be done at Cape Cod Academy, through one of the attending dance studios, or by Venmo at Dance_Marathon_Cape_Cod

Inspiration is Everywhere
Sam from Inspiration is Everywhere in Falmouth joined Bri and myself to talk about what has been happening at 24 Spring Bars ave Suite 1A in Falmouth.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity they have plenty to do and find more information here
From Inspiration is Everywhere's website:
"Mission Statement
Inspiration Is Everywhere (IIE) seeks to ensure that our community members are able to receive the care and services, best suited for their needs, when challenges arise in their lives.
Vision Statement
Beginning with its roots as an educational art organization, Inspiration Is Everywhere is a community need-centered non-profit that views our existing system of community aid to be large but imperfect and believes that with an openminded, adaptation driven approach, we can fill in the gaps that many Cape & Islands community members fall through.
Art made of recycled trash teaches us that with just a little inspiration, even waste can be reenvisioned, repurposed, and transformed into something wonderful. With this as our guiding principle, IIE has transitioned in the wake of COVID-19 to focus specifically on community aid. We strive to help our community by assisting with small financial needs, access to volunteer or discounted service providers for household repairs/emergencies, and by providing a walk in office with a small food and toiletry pantry where you can connect with volunteers who can help you access other assistance we may provide. Alternately, we can help connect you with providers for needs not covered by us. We do not duplicate services, if it is available through another organization on Cape Cod we will help connect you with them."
Thank you to Bri from Brilliantly Balanced who shared this wonderful space for the community with us.

We talk to JoEllen Erickson about this fabulous non profit highlighting and donating to other non profits!
From the "Witches" website these are the rules

Join us for multiple drawings for various items, a SUP raffle, Sunny Side Down food truck, and a whole bunch of witches on paddleboards. Stephanie Viva of X1023 will DJ the event with music and announcements. All paddlers will be part of a costume contest.
North Chatham Outfitters has generously donated a Stand Up Paddleboard for us to raffle.

This is such a magical event. We can not express the joy this witch paddle brings to us all. We sincerely hope you will join us in paddling or come to watch.

Living Legend Marilyn Maye
I hope to be around at 93, but to accomplish what Marilyn Maye has done in her time on earth, you must be an incredibly dedicated human.
Listen to her talk about her remarkable career and what she has planned for Provincetown at The Art House this season.
"MARK CORTALE & BROADWAY @ THE ART HOUSE are proud to present the legendary MARILYN MAYE with BILLY STRITCH at the piano for 10 shows only.
Marilyn Maye is a highly praised singer, actress, director, arranger, educator, Grammy-nominated recording artist and a musical treasure. Her entire life has been committed to the art of song and performance.
The award-winning Ms. Maye appeared 76 times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, the record for a singer. Perhaps the simplest Marilyn Maye accolade came after one of her show-stopping appearances on The Tonight Show when, turning to his audience of millions, Johnny Carson said, And that, young singers, is the way its done.
Marilyn began her professional singing career by winning a 13-week appearance on radio station WIBW, Topeka, Kansas, at age 9. She has been committed her entire life to the art of song and performance. During her eleven-year engagement at the Colony in Kansas City, she was discovered by Steve Allen, who was the first to present her various times to a national television audience. The Steve Allen performances led her to an RCA recording contract.
Her RCA recordings consist of seven albums and 34 singles, including the first hit recordings of Cabaret and Step to the Rear. Her album with full orchestra, The Lamp is Low, is considered a classic.
Her place in American music history was assured when the Arts Council of the Smithsonian Institution selected one of her recordings, Too Late Now, for the Smithsonian-produced album of the 110 Best American Compositions of the Twentieth Century.
Her many symphony concert appearances around the United States include the Florida Symphony, The Philly Pops, The Phoenix Symphony, The Kansas City Symphony, The Omaha Symphony, and in June, 2015, The Pasadena Symphony, Michael Feinstein conducting. Her two appearances with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall for tributes to Stephen Sondheim and Frank Loesser received show-stopping applause and rave reviews."

Billy Starr PMC Founder and Executive Director talks about this year's event
We talk to Billy Starr founder and executive director of the PMC which is happening this weekend.
Want to know more about the challenge?
Read the press release below
"On Saturday, August 7 and Sunday, August 8, the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), a two-day, 211-mile bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraiser, will bring together more than 6,000 riders to cycle across Massachusetts for the first time since August 2019. Cyclists hailing from 47 states and 11 countries will ride with the common goal of raising $52 million to fund cancer research and patient care at the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Dana-Farber)."

Falmouth's Simon Bexon riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge
Simon not only chatted with me about all of reasons for doing the Pan Mass Challenge, but he also challenges everyone to give a little more.
Listen to his story and read his "why" below;
WHY I RIDE ...I have been riding for years to raise money for diabetes research. I have steered clear of the PMC because 200 miles in 2 days seemed too daunting. Maybe it's my age, maybe the fact that more and more friends and family have been impacted by cancer, but this year I have decided to make the big leap. I am riding in particular for my wife Patti, father John, sister-in-law Teri, friends Bill and Jim, plus coworkers and colleagues Jay (for Sam), Bruce, Kenny K, Kathy H, Brian D and others. There are many I have left out. Thanks to my friend Bill Alexander for inspiring me to ride - he is missing this year due to injury, so I hope to be his substitute.
I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.

For one night only they will be performing at the Provincetown Art House so get your tickets before they are gone!
Mark Cortale Presents the incomparable MELISSA FERRICK for 1 show only for Girl Splash!
Melissa grew up in Ipswich, MA during the 70's, playing the violin and going to jazz clubs on the North Shore with her father, who managed local bands. In elementary school, she learned to play trumpet and bass guitar, which led the way to songwriting in high school. At 16, Melissa was accepted into the New England Conservatory's Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as a trumpet player, giving her the opportunity to tour with the Conservatory's Extension Division, which traveled to perform in California and China. She was accepted to Berklee College of Music on songwriting and trumpet scholarships and chose to continue her music education there from 1988-1990. After two years playing Boston's local rock club scene, Melissa left school and moved to New York City. In 1990, Melissa lived on 14th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, playing at the Bitter End weekly and working at Right Track Recording studios and Chrysalis Records to learn the ropes of the business. In July of 1991, Melissa's phone rang and she was asked to open that night for Morrissey in Boston on his Kill Uncle tour. She was invited to finish the U.S. dates with Morrissey and to continue on to the U.K. as his opening act. When she returned to the States, at 20 years old, she was offered deals with three major labels.

These partners in life and business have pandemic pivoted hard and are so excited to feed you the best of the best.
"Gourmet all Day," Laura pipes in over Tony's very charismatic storytelling of the food preparation you want to pay for and feel good. The attention to detail that this chef puts into his food is the most I've ever seen, making me urn for the opening even more.
Laura is the person you want baking for you. From sweet treats to bagels and any gluten-free options, your home will be Laura and Tony's.
Tony can weave magic not only on a microphone but in the kitchen.
He has worked his way up from "fry baby" to feeding two presidents.
Tony's childhood of selling papers in Ptown (which this Northern Southern Italian quadrupled the sales of) has given him a love of Cape Cod and the land and sea's bounty.
He has crushed the kitchen from Miami to NYC, and now, after 17 years running breakfast, he is beyond invigorated to show us what he can do for the entire community.
Laura is so excited to share this scratch-made kitchen with you and all of her neighbors.
When we were talking, she was happy to feed the community at the end of the day.
Day-old doesn't exist at Laura and Tony's, and I am lining up for my sustainable bag to return all summer long.
Get ready for Gourmet all day in Eastham with Laura and Tony's
