As it pertains to matters of the heart, many of us learn through trial and error (including moi). One of the greatest errors; however, an unwillingness to learn about ourselves as we interact with others, our choices—dishonoring our boundaries, sacrificing convictions/principles…those stabilizing practices that structure personal and relational health—unrealistic expectations and blaming others for the downfall. If we are to “love our neighbors as we love ourselves” (Mark 12:31), disregarding one’s own emotional or spiritual well-being for the comfort of others is misaligned. The teachings that come with learning to love is a foundational prerequisite of multiple teachings; defining not only the relationship with God and ourselves; but, overall relational health.
