The Education Studies programme seeks to broaden students' understanding of the study and practice of  'Education' beyond the walls of the School. It focuses on those intentional, pedagogical relationships that span and influence a person's whole life course - and the question around the meaning and purpose of Education that arise from this integrated view. 

Today, Dr. Claire Cassidy interviews Emeritus Professor Donald Christie. Donald speaks to Claire about the privilege of being the first Head of the School of Education when the new Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was formed. He talks about the importance of Education as a university discipline, recalls his proudest moments and successes, and shares his fears for teacher education - and his eternal optimism.

In our third podcast, Dr Claire Cassidy introduces us to the Postgraduate Certificate 'Philosophy with Children' at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow - a unique course that doesn't exist in quiet the same way anywhere else in the world. Claire answers what we always wanted to know about philosophy with children, but never dared to ask (is that not for grown-ups?); gives us an insight into the kind of philosophical questions that children might ask; and gives an overview of the course structure and content. 

This is a short interview with Dr Katja Frimberger who is a lecturer at the School of Education at the University of Strathclyde. She talks about her interest in the formative processes that constitute arts-based education and gives an example of the film-making project 'Scotland, Our New Home'; a collaboration with filmmaker Simon Bishopp and the New Young Scots peer mentoring group - who wanted to make  a film to support other new young arrivals in the process of making a home in Scotland.
