#54: TikTok and How To Master Creating Content w/ Kelsey LeMunyon, Sr. Talent Manager - Studio71

"What type of content works best on TikTok?"

"How can artists build a community as opposed to a following?"

"What are some things artists forget to do when uploading their content?"

---

This week's guest on the unsigned podcast is Kelsey LeMunyon from Studio71. Kelsey is a Senior Talent Manager and was recently named a top TikTok talent manager by Business Insider. Kelsey got her start in the entertainment business by initially working in PR before making the move to the management side of the business where she now works with creators to help them build content strategies that are not only engaging but also drive revenue.

In this episode, we talk about where creators should be spending most of their time on the app and how listening/watching is just as important as speaking and creating.

“What’s the purpose of creating content?”

“Email or social media?”

-----

Cristina Jerome is a professional music marketer and the founder of RnBae Collective, an R&B focused agency providing event production and brand partnerships. Through RnBae, Cristina has worked with countless artists and coordinated brand partnerships with brands including Atlantic Records, Red Bull, Vashtie, and more. #33: Michael Persall - Co-Founder and President, Treble

“What is Treble and how does it help artists?”

“How should artists be managing their careers and their 9-5?”

“How important is creating a community?”

As mentioned previously, I'm going to space my podcast releases out a little bit more for the foreseeable future. I want to make sure I'm doing my part and keeping the focus on the things that matter.

This week's guest is Michael Persall. Michael and I met via Frank Woodworth, another guest I had on the podcast (check his episode HERE), but I first heard about his company, Treble, a few years back when they started throwing parties and events around NYC. Since then I've been following them on social media and decided to hit Frank up to connect the dots for us. Treble has come a long way and are about to launch a new version of their platform to help connect artists with the team members they need in order to take their careers to the next level!

#12: Kam McCullough – Founder, Dusse Palooza

#12: Kam McCullough – Founder, Dusse Palooza

“I'm starting to gain some traction with my free event, how do I monetize?"

“How do I impact culture and create a moment?”

“What's Jay Z like in real life?”

Manufacturing a moment is something all artists and brands try and accomplish when they're trying to launch something new. The problem is, most of the time it doesn't work because they don't fully understand their culture and their place within culture. Also, they try too hard. But when you do things because they're natural and true to yourself, that's when the magic can happen.

In episode 12 of the "unsigned podcast," we sat down with the founder of Dusse Palooza, Kam McCullough. Kam tells us about how he got his start in the entertainment business and what he's learned turning his simple house party into a series of national events which ultimately lead to partnering with Jay Z's company, Dusse. Oh yea, Kam also shares some personal Jay Z stories.

#11: Jessica Angeles - Creator Relations Manager, Spotify (Anchor)

#11: Jessica Angeles - Creator Relations Manager, Spotify (Anchor)

“I want to throw an event for my new music, how do I make it memorable for my audience?"

“What is the one thing I'm forgetting to do when it comes to creating content?”

“How can podcasts benefit me as a musician?”

Creating content is one of the biggest things artists need to do when it comes to their careers, especially during the period in between new releases, but like anything else, it's hard to know what you should spend your time and what you should ignore. This is increasing harder if you've never had a digital strategy before. Also, how can you take something from being online to being in the real world?

In episode 11 of the "unsigned podcast", Jessica Angeles from Anchor, the podcast company that was acquired by Spotify this past year, stopped by to chat about her previous time at Tumblr, event production, creating digital strategies, and the potential future of how podcasting and music can better work together.

Enjoy!

#10: Ron Perks - Booking Coordinator, United Talent Agency

#10: Ron Perks - Booking Coordinator, United Talent Agency

“My music is dope and people love it, but I can't get people to my shows, what am I doing wrong?"

“I want to play college shows, how do I know if I am ready for that?”

“Who do I talk to when I'm trying to book a college gig?”

In today's music business, one of the many keys to longterm success is having a great live show. That said, many artists that are starting out and seeing success online fail to make this happen because they think they only have to post on social and people will pay to see them. That isn't always the case and more often than not, when that does happen, it's the exception, not the rule. So how do you make sure that your online success translates to people showing up at your gigs?

In episode 1o of the "unsigned podcast", we sat down with booking coordinator at UTA, Ron Perks to talk about how college tours work and what artists and managers should really be focusing on when it comes to building a touring business for themselves. We also talk about how Ron got his start booking shows in Buffalo NY before moving to NYC and ultimately becoming Cheryl Paglierani's (Post Malone and 21 Savage's booking agent) assistant before becoming an agent himself at United Talent Agency.
