Superhero #104 - Crohn's Social Media Life and Alopecia | James Morrell
Hello! Welcome back as I welcome actor and viral TikTok creator James Morrell.
I have been following James for a while, and he has been through an incredibly powerful journey.
One of a questioned identity, masculinity too at its depths.
Living daily with Crohn's is a challenge James shared with millions of other incredible people on this earth.
Its a physical disease, one that presents itself behind the scenes, but what about alopecia?
Well for James this came out of the blue, and his story and content has inspired lots of men to be able to be raw and natural on social media.
To be able to show emotion without a fear of judgement.
We discuss this, how this story also led to other opportunities in his acting career and well as how has his mindset changed now?
What has he learnt from this?
Another amazing chat that I hope you truly enjoy..

Superhero #103 - Burnt Alive At 16 - Acceptance, Accidents And Autism With Hannah Armstrong
I am thrilled to welcome Hannah Armstrong into the Mattcave today! Now I have followed Hannah for a while on Tiktok on an account she shares with her brother Connor. Its an amazing, sometimes silly but always smile inducing channel! Not only does Hannah help show the world that Connors disability does not make the world stop spinning for him, but she also manages to tell her own story, piece by piece. Hannah was set alight during a small bonfire in 2020, just before lockdown leaving some serious injuries and scars. There are things in here she has never told anyone on social media, despite her audience being over 200,000 people. We discuss her accident, her medial diagnosis journey, dealing with neurodiversity and the idea of 'coming to terms' with a tragedy. She has a fantastic energy, its was a blast to record so without further ado, enjoy! If you do want to follow both Hannah and Connors journey you can on tiktok / instagram @hannahandcon .

Superhero #102 - Domestic Abuse Survivor To Female Leader - Using Experience To Help Others with Hannah Martin
Today I have the most incredible human being with me in the Mattcave - Hannah Martin.
You may or may nor be familiar with some of Hannah's content on social media, but what is clear is that she's a woman on a mission to not be kept down.
Documenting her daily life and learning as a domestic abuse survivor, she is also founder of the Female Empowerment Group.
Hannah has also featured in articles in local and national papers crying out for more education for young people on healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Hannah's abuser was sentenced to prison, but she is aware that there are very few cases that end this way. This needs to stop.
Before I spoil anymore.. enjoy this episode and as always stay super!

Superhero #100 - Money And Titles Mean Nothing Against Health - Burning Out Made Me Unstoppable | Rebecca Day
In pursuit of a career, sometimes we have to make decisions that will affect more than just our role. Our life, our health are all at play but its a decision based on weighing up the options.
Sometimes getting a promotion get means spending less time with your family.
Changing jobs can mean a lot of extra stress and responsibility.
But that is always weighed up against the pressure to earn a wage and pay those bills.
So often its this pressure that can influence a decision, for the fear of not succeeding, or putting others close to you at risk.
But what happens if the changes you make are based solely around you and your health.
What if the job you are in is not what you want to be in.
What if the job you will love the most will take a huge leap of faith?
What if staying where you are risks your health declining?
Well its time to find out with my fabulous guest Rebecca Day, because she did exactly this.
Rebecca is now a Women's Leadership Coach and sit back and relax as we discuss her journey thus far.

Superhero #99 - Ditching The Label And Embracing Neurodiversity | Tamzin Reid - World Class Coach
Today I spend some time with World Class Gymnastics and Trampoline Coach Tamzin Reid.
To get to that level takes time, dedication and consistency, not to mention navigating several neurodiversities.
What motivated Tamzin?
Tamzins story in her own words: ''I started my journey after my son was born. As a mum I thought that I was no good at anything and most probably couldn’t learn anything new. My son has severe ADHD. He was not easy in any way, home school etc.
He went to a school friend’s trampoline birthday party. He did so well he started lessons and although the coach was very nice, there was not a lot of real learning going on.
I thought to myself, you are already a British Horse Society IVsm in equitation, why don’t I use these skills to retrain.
So off I went and retrained as a trampoline coach. As time went on and my son got better I needed to move up the qualification ladder. Each time I had to step out of my comfort zone it was so difficult.
But I thought if I want to do this then I need to be uncomfortable. If not I will stay where I am for ever.
The amount of different emotions I went through was crazy, scared, felt stupid, too old to re train, anxious even physically sick. This was each and every course, exam or just new step.
Once the trampoline club had been up and running for a few years and we had athletes from club, county, regional and national level competition, I thought it about time to start to give back. I decided to become a tutor. Oh no here we go again with all the unwanted feelings and emotions that almost stopped me entirely in my tracks, from doing anything. Each time I had to dig deep if I wanted to take the next step. I knew deep down that I wanted to, so I allowed myself to make the decision that I was going to take each small step as it came. I’m so glad I did as I have now become a High performance coach in trampoline and a British Gymnastics Tutor / assessor, along with my BHS IVsm, NCMH & ANCEBM in equine.
I have been coaching for over 30years in both equine and trampoline. Both at high performance level and with world level athletes and coaches. Over the past year during the pandemic, I have really missed being able to coach people of all ages and abilities, so I have diversified my coaching to be here to support individuals both in and out of sport.
You know what, I have now learnt to be proud of myself. I really believe that if I can get there being severely dyslexic and having psoriatic arthritis, then I know you can to. I can help you reach your goals 1 step at a time.
Tamzin doesn't often take the limelight and is extremely humble about what she has achieved. In my view this is your time to shine!
If you would like to contact Tamzin, you can on instagram @tamzinscoaching or facebook under Tamzin Reid Coaching.

Superhero #98 - Being Doxxed On Tiktok - My Recovery From Addiction | Greyson Grimes
Welcome back!
This week I spent some time in the Mattcave with Greyson Grimes - A musician and popular social media personality.
Well, Greyson went viral recently when he was doxxed. If you don't know what that is, let me explain.
Tiktok megastar Elise Myers released a video where she describes a not so great experience with an 'ex' but does not name. Someone then saw the video, found Greyson and basically said a big digital 'its him!'.
To Dox: to publicly identify or publish private information about (someone) especially as a form of punishment or revenge
With that comes lots of messages and comments, threats and all sorts unfortunately a thing now in the digital world. Its also Illegal in some places to Doxx.
So now that we know what that is.. back to Greyson.
Not only has this situation given him challenges, but it has also given him a platform to tell his story.
Its a story of addiction, forgiveness, inner work and an incredible view on life now that is infectious and has definitely had an impact on me.
You can find Greyson and his music @Greyson.grimes on IG / @greysongrimes on tiktok or simply google his name!
I hope you enjoy, I certainly did!

Superhero #95 - The Key To A Healthier Mental Health Future Starts At School - Sharing Our Story - The Book of Hope | Charlotte Maidment
Today continues my mini series of Tiktok creators that are here to make a statement and to make a real change in the world.
Charli works within the NHS within occupational health, but that isn't the driver for what she does on social media.
Instead she uses it to tell the story of her family, and in particular her husband Stevie.
Stevie has had a turbulent history with mental health problems, and as a part of her healing process she wanted to have some open and frank conversations with the world, in an attempt to help others going through similar. It hasn't been easy and infact Charli has had to face some severe negativity from doing so, but she soldiers on and has ammassed quite a support!
She created the Book of Hope, which is an incredible tool to help manage your own mental health, which is available now.
We discuss this and much more in this episode so I hope you enjoy!
You can find Charli on Tiktok @mentalhealthmum0
Charli also asked me to take part in a 20k walk to raise money for Mental Health UK on 30th Sept 2023. Of course I said yes!

Superhero #94 - How TikTok Helped Me Grow in a Digital World. Lupus Ultra Marathons and Only Fans | Star Bickerstaff
Hello and welcome back!
Today I have the honour of sharing some time and space with Tiktok creator Star Bickerstaff.
We take a really interesting look into how posting one video on social media can transform life as you know it.
We are in a very digital and different world and its about time that we accepted and embraced it!
Star grew up caring for her father who had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) before he passed.
She was bullied at school, and hasn't always had any confidence in herself.. did that change? When and why?
What about Stars journey into OnlyFans, and using it as a revenue platform whilst still being in control, blowing away some of the negative stigma that comes with it.
Star runs Ultra Marathons, we find out how that started, and also how Star lives with Lupus and a bit about that experience and journey too.
If you would like to follow Star she is a regular on Tiktok and Instagram, as well as her Spicy Page. You can find her @starbeebee12 on all of them.

Superhero #93 - Acceptance Is A Long And Powerful Road - Normalising and Celebrating Visual Difference - Living with NF1 | Amit Ghose
Hello and lovely to see you again!
Today we are celebrating visual differences with the most amazing guest Amit Ghose.
So.. if you can get us on spotify, lets get visual!
Amit has recently grown quite a following on social media recently, campaigning and advocating for normalising visual differences.
Amit lives with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 also known as NF1 which is a genetic condition that causes tumour to grow along the nerves.
The variance across the condition is huge and it can be apparent anywhere on the body.
For Amit, it was clear from a young age that the differences it would make for him would be plain to see.
So what does it take to grow your own confidence in a world where appearance seems to be at the forefront of judgement?
How big a role does family play in that, and what is Amit doing now to help others?
A fascinating conversation by someone who is clearly using the power of social media in a positive empowering way.
Mentioned within are the 'Changing Faces' Charity which you can find here and Face Equality International which you can find here

Superhero #92 - If You Care Share - Doing What I Do To Help Those Dealing With Suicide | Matthew Smith - Co Founder- IFUCARESHARE
Hello there Superhero fan!
I first saw todays guest on the UK show 'Steph's Packed Lunch' and I knew I had to reach out.
Matthew Smith is the co-founder of an incredible non-profit organisation called 'If You Care Share'
Taken from https://www.ifucareshare.co.uk/about
Our journey began in 2005. Daniel O’Hare was 19 years of age when, without any warning, he took his own life. He had no previous history of mental health problems nor had he shown any outward signs of his intentions.
Daniel was a normal young man, who was extremely popular and well known in his local community. He had a large amount of friends and a family that loved him dearly. He enjoyed football, spending time with friends and socialising. Daniel also had a job managing a family online retail business. To this day his family remain devastated by their loss and are still no nearer to understanding Daniel’s choice.
Daniel’s brothers Matthew and Ben, along with his cousin Sarah (then aged 10, 5 and 12) hoped to do something positive to try and prevent another family suffering a similar experience. They wanted to create a lasting memory to Daniel and started If U Care Share Foundation.
The family started selling wristbands at football clubs featuring the message if u care share and raised over £50,000 for mental health charities.
In 2011, we became a registered charity with three main aims: Prevention, intervention & support of those bereaved by suicide.
Join me as we discuss the impact that Daniels death had, the legacy that has now been created with the aim of helping many other people.
Matthew is an incredibly inspiring individual, what him and his family have created is incredible, I truly hope it can keep growing and expand its reach further across the UK.
Whatever you are doing and wherever you are, I hope you enjoy this episode!

Superhero #90 -I Was Raped At The Age Of 13 - Forgiving Them Was A Huge Part Of My Healing - The Courage Cultivator | Madeleine Black
Welcome back superstar!
Now todays episode features Madeleine Black who at a young age was raped, so please if this subject is sensitive to you at all, be kind to yourself and miss it out or make sure you are in the right frame of mind.
"When I was 13, in a flat belonging to my friend’s Mother who was away for the weekend, I was attacked by two teenage American students. They held a knife to my throat and tortured and raped me many times over, for about four or five hours. I begged them to stop, but they just kicked me and laughed at me. I remember wishing they would kill me to make it all end. (Taken from www.theforgivenessproject.com )
This was the late 1970's. It wasn't until 2014 that Madeleine decided to share her story after decades of coming to terms with what happened to her.
Madeleine has since written a book, spoken at a TEDX event and spends her time helping others as a counsellor.

Superhero #89 - An Unfiltered View Into Autism and ADHD - Neurodiversity, Communicating and Strongwoman | Holly Ford
I had the pleasure of speaking with Holly Ford, who is a competitive strongwoman, a mother of 2 and living with Autism and ADHD.
We talk about communication, the journey Holly has been on to understand how what works for her can be taken by others in the wrong way.
We look at the times that are overwhelming for her, what has she learnt to do to get the most out of herself, for example on competition day but also in everyday social situations.
We also discuss depression, thoughts of self harm and suicide and how drugs and alcohol played a huge part of Hollys life, also WHY they did.
It was incredible listening to someone able to be so open about some really huge and raw experiences.
Whether you are neurodiverse yourself, you know someone that is or are just curious, you will love this.
You can follow Holly on Instagram and TikTok @holfordxx

Superhero #81 - Using What You Have Not Looking At What You Don't - The Rise Of Disabled Strongman | Mac Mclaren
Hello and welcome back!
Have you ever injured yourself and found things tough avoiding using certain bodyparts?
Well, for some people, this is everyday life. However.. within the disabled community there are some folk that are determined to show some incredible feats of physical strength..
Today I speak with Mac Mclaren a 2x World Disabled Strongest Man.
Its a sport that is growing in popularity, and notoriety too with people like the great Magnus Ver Magnusson flying the flag and telling the world about it.

We talk about how a simple change in mindset pretty much created the sport and opened the door for so many people to do some incredible things.
We discover what brought Mac to where he is today, as he hasn't always been disabled.

Superhero #79 - Finding My Passion Has Opened My Eyes and New Opportunities in Strongman - | Kane Francis
Hello and welcome back!
This week I want to start with a little disclamer..
We had some issues, technical hitches and there were points I thought Kane was going to turn into a robot.
However! I'm all about the real conversation, so I haven't butchered it it is what it is.
That being said, the power of the messages we hear doesn't change.
Kane went from a young life of partying and drinking to a sport which requires nothing but work, and patience.
Kane talks about finding his passions, and how that helped him focus.
We talk about how with the right support around you, you can make something happen as long as its your passion, even when times are tough.
Including flying accross the world in the sport you love, and getting called up to the Giants Live stage.
It was a pleasure to speak to Kane, he has some very high level competitions coming up and we wish him all the best!
A fab conversation for strength fans and non fans alike.
If you want to follow Kane on instagram you can its @kanefrancis_ and indeed you can me on @thekindeststrongman

Superhero #78 - Writing A Book To Help Turn The Pages On Schizoaffective Disorder - Befriending My Brain | James Lindsay
<>
Welcome back!
Today I speak with James who has just released a book called 'Befriending My Brain' , a look into his experience of as lesser known Mental Health condition called Schizoaffectvie Disorder.
James describes very openly his experience of his own Mental health challenges, being sectioned and in hospital too.
But also, why he wouldn't change any of it.
I also ask, how does being open about his own mental health transfer to employment, are there any stigma's?
In my opinion, going through something as challenging as that, and then spending time and energy into a way to help others and raise awareness of a condition like this show real courage, determination and strength.
I hope you enjoy this episode, you can find James on Instagram @jameslindsay_23 or by name on LinkedIN

Evergreen was set up to offer an entry into fitness, health and wellbeing classes for those that perhaps wouldn't usually have access.
This may mean taking a class and moving it to different locations for those that cant travel far, incredible!
I have a soft spot for real grass roots community work and what Paula and Andy are doing with Evergreen is making a huge difference for so many.
But of course as you will know by now there is always so much to a story..
What made this idea come to life?
What drives Paula to be so passionate about promoting health and wellbeing?

Thinking about doing the same? School not working for your child? You may find this useful.

Superhero #73 - Academia, Abuse and Atlas Stones- An Insight Into Life Working In Social Work and Family Court | Jess Jackson
Nice to see you again, This week I spent some time with Jess Jackson.
Before I get into it, I just want to let you know that we do talk about abuse, and other topics which could be triggering for some. So if that could be you? Be kind to yourself and choose the best time to listen for you.
Now I knew Jess primarily as she shares a strongwoman class with my partner, however it turns out that we have more than that in common.
Jess finds strongwoman an outlet for the everyday stresses she feels in the work that she does.
Working in family court, as an expert independant witness she has to make some big decisions which change lives. I cant imagine what a weight that is to carry, so we talk about that.
Hearing stories of people going through trauma, challenges whilst balancing being a mum too.
That's not the only thing Jess does, she likes to keep busy but I will save that for her within this amazing episode.
You know what? I am finding a trend here.. there are a lot of people in the strength world and the sport of strongman / woman that have a day job in CARING.

Hi there!
Today I am joined by Leila Ives, who only last year travelled to the USA for the Crossfit Games 2022. Leila was in the adaptive catagory as 5 years ago she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
We talk openly about her MS diagnosis, and what it has meant for her training as well as the knock on effect on friendships and her lifestyle.
She talks openly about those times that friends will respond to you by comparing their own struggles and how tough that can be to respond to when you are diagnosed with a lifetime condition.
You will hear in this episode a certain strength in how Leila talks about her experiences. A built resilience and the courage to talk about it which is incredible.
Leila has also faced other significant challenges and trauma, which she has written about in a book entitled 'It Happened To Me Too' , which you can get HERE . These include her parents divorcing at a young age, relocation and being abused from a family member.

Hello and welcome back!
Today I head to Australia (virtually of course) to speak with arguably the strongest teacher in Australia.
Elly has and does compete on the world stage, but on a day to day basis she is a primary school teacher.
How is balance achieved between a big goal and a physically and emotionally challenging job like teaching?
What was before strength sports?
We discuss how when you are centred around helping others, it can be tough to put yourself in the spotlight, the focus and put the work in.
But Elly definitely proves that there is a way, and it was a fascinating talk.
You can find Elly on Instagram @ellystrength and please take time after this to check out the other amazing episodes, there is something for everyone!

Today I spent some time with Katie Smith - The 2nd Strongest Woman in Britain and 2nd Place winner at the Arnolds Pro competition.

In this episode you will find an uplifting story of how in this world there are some people out there who can help you make what you want happen.
Finding the right goal, and training method was a challenge.
Finding time to do it, another challenge.
Possibly the biggest challenge?
Making room for a little selfishness and investment into getting fitter and stronger, when all you have known is being a mum.
We talk friends, relationships, training, being comfortable being you and much more.
I hope you enjoy, and if you want to check out and follow Katie you can find her on instagram @katie.strongwoman (DO IT NOW!)

We discuss how it felt at the time, how it has affected Geoff and actually how he has taken that experience and spends his time educating others on the complexities and nuances of stokes as an 'expert by experience'.

Today is a special event, we have a crossover between The Superhero Finder Podcast and The Man Strong Podcast!
TMSP is my new project - if you haven't visited please do - www.anchor.fm/manstrongpod and click follow to support!
Why a crossover? Well my guest today Ross is an absolute fountain of knowledge on Hormone Optimisation, and what effect low testosterone can have on a man.
He lived it, tried it and has founded Alphagenix to help other men look into the other reasons as to why they might feel down, foggy, less masculine even.
We chat about the idea of toxic masculinity with a suggested change to it, as well as our wishes to normalise conversations on man stuff.
Ross likes to take his new found energy and use it to do some incredible things. Not only is his aim to change the way men think and talk about themselves but he also just came back from climbing Aconcagua in Argentina! Talk about a superhero..
He speaks beautifully and passionately about the subjects involved, what a great conversation, we definitely had more we could discuss.

Superhero #62 - Giving Even When You Have Nothing To Give To Make A World Safer For Women | Madeleine France
Hello Superhero Fans!
Today I had the pleasure of Maddie France's company, someone I know you will agree is an absolute power house.
Her desire to empower women knows few boundaries, to help them get out and safe from uncomfortable or sometimes abusive situations with with the establishment of her charity Blossom Training and Development CIC.
Fuelled by her own past experiences, she hasn't hid from them but used the energy she has (and sometimes hasn't got) to educate.
Education Maddie believes is the key to making this world a safer place for women. That education doesn't stop with women, it needs to be given to men too, to know that some actions are not acceptable.
Within here we have a story of sadness, hardship, finding a community, football and a desire to make a difference.
What an incredible guest, I don't want to spoil it so press start and have a truly powerful day!
If you want to find out more about Blossom you can at www.blossom-uk.co.uk
Don't forget if you liked this episode, please check out all the previous episodes too by visiting www.imdoingitfor.me and by favouriting / rating you will help me spread the messages further, and also be kept up to date with new episodes.

Superhero #61 - You Don't Have To Feel Stressed To Be Stressed - Looking Inside You To Look After You | Jay Unwin
Today I am joined by a super super cool guy, who I found on LinkedIn and have followed him for a while, so its great to have him with me.
Jay is a professional speaker in the area of wellbeing and habit formation, so its good to say he knows how the mind works and has some hacks to get around those stumbling blocks.
Jay has recently competed in an international speaking competition in Ireland and did incredibly well, but you won't find him talking about it here.
Why?
Its Jays humility, his story, his experiences, his way with words and the sheer desire to help others that he see's as his power.
We talk about how Jay got into speaking, his journey from teaching and being a Personal Trainer in between.
He also gives some absolute crackers of tips and ways to help dilute some of the glitzy yet opposing messages on fitness you see on social media today to actually do the bits that work and will stick.
What does fitness mean to you? According to Jay, its your ability to recover after stress both physically and mentally.
Love that, thank you!
You can find Jay on LinkedIN, or Instagram but that not quite as frequent @therealjayunwin
Please like and favourite this podcast to be notified on new releases, and please let me know which episodes have resonated with you!

Superhero #60 - Bravery Isn't Always Celebrated - The Strength in Finding Your Tribe - Brave Bird Club | Sarah Oakley
Today I am joined by Sarah Oakley, the founder of Brave Bird Club.
Sarah watched as she saw her friend go through an abusive relationship. Secret meetings, unable to reach out until one day she received a message.
She needed to leave, but how? Sarah asked one question that changed everything.
'What would you say to your best friend?'
'Put your brave pants on'
From that moment she was able to move forward and Sarah wanted to build a community that reinforces the fact that 'Not all superheroes wear pants on the outside'
We discuss societal expectations, the way we use our language to convey or sometimes hide how we feel and how bravery isn't always celebrated, but it bloody well should be!
I can definitely see a part 2 in the future, we could have talked for hours.
Seriously cool human being, a great ambassador for facing fear and taking action and a definite superhero..
If you want to find out more and follow the Brave Bird Club you can on instagram @BRAVEBIRDCLUB

Superhero #57 - The NHS Couldn't Help Me, So I'm Helping The NHS | Lagans Foundation | Carren Bell

Superhero #56 - Be Conscious, Be Present and Make The Right Decision For You - Energy Talk | James Kawainui
Today we finally get to hear from James Kawainui, who is a Native Hawaiian Healer.
I say finally, this is take two for us as technology like to challenge us, but maybe there is something in that.. powerful conversations, maybe too much power for the laptops? Who knows!
We could speak all day, and I would certainly expect us to do a part 2 at some point as you will discover James is a very wise man with some powerful and interesting things to say.
We find about how within days of having 'an experience' he left his corporate job, and knew that his ancestors were going to lead him on a path to do something else, something super powerful.
We talk about his life falling apart, relocation, learning who he was and what he was on this earth to do and we look at many ways in which we can align with what we 'feel is right'. Our intuition is very powerful, but have we begun to scratch the surface of our understanding.
Ok, so a few years ago the idea of energy healing would have been something I rejected, I like cold hard fact. Now I am much more open, as we as a world tap back into some of the understanding that was commonplace centuries ago and I emplore you to be too and give this a listen.
