A recentl became friends through golf, with a guy who served in the miltary and was in a specialised hiugh mechanised unit. These units were typically called in to blow things up and flatten areas for infantry men.
Anthony was the communications guy but still had to be geared up with an m4, side arm and enough ammo to contribute to a potential threat.
Here we talk a little about what he used to have to wear on a standard operation and as standard procedure.
Enjoy.

9mm vs .40 S&W: Breaking Down the Differences 101.
I'm diving way more into ammunition than I ever thought I would and became very interested in popular handgun cartridges. Here I share just some of the differences between the 9mm and the .40 S&W, which to be honest isn't a whole lot.

Get to Know Your Ammo: A Basic Guide to 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP
Get to Know Your Ammo: A Basic Guide to 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP
So Ill stick to my 9mm ammo for stock piling and ill go have some fun with the .45ACP haha
9mm: The 9mm is a popular cartridge for handguns due to its low recoil and high magazine capacity. It is an excellent choice for target shooting and self-defense, and is widely available and affordable.
.40 S&W: The .40 S&W was developed in the 1980s as a compromise between the 9mm and .45 ACP cartridges. It offers a balance of stopping power and recoil, making it a good choice for self-defense and law enforcement applications.
.45 ACP: The .45 ACP is a large, heavy cartridge known for its stopping power and terminal ballistics. It is a popular choice for self-defense, law enforcement, and military applications, but has more recoil and lower magazine capacity than other handgun cartridges.
It's important to note that there are many other handgun cartridges available, and the choice between them often comes down to personal preference and the intended use of the firearm. Beginners should seek advice from experienced gun owners or firearms professionals before making a decision on which cartridge to use.

Tactical Gear 101: A Beginner's Guide for Civilians
I LOVE having tactical gear everywhere for my everyday lifestyle now!
So before I was into tactical gear I would always need something like a better backpack, more compartments, multitool, knife or first aid things at some point throughout most days. Whether one of those items or not I always needed something that the world of tactical gear covered anyway.
Anyway here are just a few items that would help for personal protection and outdoor activities such as hiking, walking or camping.
So many more to talk about in the future,
Have a great day,

Expert tips for controlling your gun & the arc of movement with your gun With OSS Tactical
Expert tips for controlling your gun & the arc of movement with your gun With OSS Tactical
An aspect of shooting that many (including me prior to this) don't even consider is the movement we will have naturally as we hold a pistol and pull the trigger. We are not robots, or machines, we are human beings with a pulse so it is natural for us to have a slight movement that translates into a dispersion of shots that increases the further away from the target we are.
Example: Shooting at 3 feet the dispersion of shots is going to be pretty tight, but the same movement from 25 feet will translate into a much bigger dispersion of shots.
Thanks for listening,
Matthew

The best gun belt brands are manufacturing in China. The Complete Guide to Choosing a Gun Belt for Concealed Carry and Everyday Use.
The best gun belt brands are manufacturing in China. The Complete Guide to Choosing a Gun Belt for Concealed Carry and Everyday Use.
It pains me to say this but some of the biggest and best gun belt brands are manufacturing in China, and the quality is undoubtably of a super high standard. Now I get it, made in America is a great marketing strategy and a great strategy overall but it doesn't always mean the quality is high. In fact think about your iPhone and where that is made? Its made in China because it is made extremely well there. The same is said for nylon products, and gun belts; with the right manufacturer in China you can get an unbelievably high quality nylon gun belt construction. And that is just what the likes of Kore Essentials and Nexbelt have done, and it is what we have done too.
I will always support those who make in America and will never bash them because it is a great thing, I just believe that the masses of folks that need a gun belt for concealed carry or everyday work use can't afford a $70-$100 belt. And if they are spending that they don't want to put it through the stress tests of everyday life.

Inside the Barrel: Exploring the Basics of Gun Bore and Rifling.
As I have said in the past, it is important to know the parts of your guns or at least the major parts. I still don't know all the small pieces that make up a rifle, but I do know the basics.
The barrel, the bore are something to understand as it can be a serious issue if you try to use the wrong caliber for what the barrel is capable of handling.
When learning about the barrel and bore you'll come across rifling so I touch on what that is exactly, but not much further as I do not know much more about it yet.

There is almost a best of both worlds when it comes to shooting .223 or 5.56 ammo, its just not as widely known or used. Welcome .223 Wylde Chambers, which are a .223 chamber which exceeds the standard pressure amount a .223 can handle all the way up to the 5.56 pressure.
This makes shooting a 5.56 out of the .223 Wylde chamber safe, which is is not if it is not a Wylde chamber.

Maximizing Your Readiness: The Right Amount of Rifle Ammunition for Your Loadout.
Well I never thought so many people would be too concerned about how many rounds of ammunition you or I carry to the gun range for practice over lunch haha. Despite some of the hateful comments I enjoy the interactions and most peoples concern, help and advice. It made me seek further expert advice and talk about it on this podcast.
How much ammunition you take to the range has really boiled down to 2 things:
Cost
Intentions
Straight off the bat rifle ammunition is expensive, whether .223 or 5.56 - it is expensive as you go through it fast.
Intentions; I am not anticipating an invasion over my lunch nor am I expecting a zombie apocalypse over lunch so I feel I don't need to be as prepared like a front line soldier.
Most rifle pistol bags are equipped to have at least 150 rounds, and most hold more capacity. For example, our rifle bag in its smallest most compact size holds x4 30 or 45 round mags and more can be stored inside the internal pockets. The outside rifle ammo specific pockets hold what I just said so its more than enough for a range or tactical session.

Hit The Bullseye: The Best Shooting Targets to Improve Your Skills.
I was at the range doing some practice before me and my wife had lunch the other day, and I forgot my own targets so I had to buy targets from the store. They cost me $1 each!! I was shocked because I buy in bulk and they cost me approx. 7-11 cents. You can imagine how shocked I was handing over my credit card.
Anyway with that in mind I realized that having a gun, ammo and a safe is super important but having targets is also super helpful and depending on how you buy them can be expensive or cost effective.

Unpacking the Differences: 5.56 vs .223 Rifle Ammunition.
Unpacking the Differences: 5.56 vs .223 Rifle Ammunition.
It was super interesting to me to learn that more people are buying rifles, especially the AR15 platform thus leading to more rifle ammunition sales. This brings in some confusion for new folks as there are 2 very common types of rifle ammunition. These two are the 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington.
The 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington are both intermediate rifle cartridges commonly used in military and civilian firearms. However, they have some differences:
Chamber pressure: The 5.56mm NATO cartridge has a higher chamber pressure than .223 Remington.
Ammunition dimensions: The 5.56mm NATO cartridge is slightly longer than the .223 Remington cartridge, and its case is also thicker.
Ballistic performance: The 5.56mm NATO cartridge has a higher velocity and energy compared to the .223 Remington cartridge.
Weapon compatibility: It is important to note that not all firearms chambered in .223 Remington can safely fire 5.56mm NATO ammunition. Before using 5.56mm NATO in a .223 Remington chamber, it is important to check with the manufacturer.
In summary, the 5.56mm NATO cartridge is generally considered to be a more powerful round than the .223 Remington cartridge, but it is important to use the appropriate cartridge for your firearm to ensure safe and reliable operation.

AR-15: An Ideal Home Defense Weapon.
AR-15: An Ideal Home Defense Weapon.
In our last podcast Tim at OSS Tactical mentioned how an AR15 was a great platform for home defense and so I wanted to share my take on that and also go a little into why it is a great choice for home defense. There are many other reasons why but I am sticking to only the reasons I know currently.
If you have any other reasons why or why not this is a great weapon of choice for home defense i would love to know more!
The AR-15 rifle is one of the most popular firearms on the market today, with its lightweight and ergonomic design making it a great choice for home defense. This semi-automatic rifle is reliable and accurate, with low recoil allowing for quick and accurate follow-up shots if necessary. The AR-15 also has a high magazine capacity, allowing for more rounds to be available for defensive situations.

Master Shooter Tim Owens Reveals the Four Fundamental Rules of Gun Safety
Master Shooter Tim Owens Reveals the Four Fundamental Rules of Gun Safety
In this episode I talk with my firearms instructor and Expert Shooter Tim Owens who is the owner of OSS Tactical. Tim has a decades worth of knowledge having served in the military and taught as an instructor to many police departments in the US. To this day Tim gets on me about gun safety as you can never be too careful with a firearm. Tim also shares 1 rule that trumps all when you have a gun in your hand, because at the end of the day if it is in your hand then you are responsible for it.
This podcast is full of knowledge bombs so tune in and enjoy!
Gun safety refers to the rules and procedures that should be followed in order to prevent accidents or misuse of firearms. These rules are designed to help protect the user and those around them from injury or death. Some of the basic principles of gun safety include:
1) Always assume that a gun is loaded, even if you think it is not.
2) Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, away from other people or objects that could be damaged or destroyed if the gun were to discharge.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
4) Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
5) Use appropriate safety equipment, such as ear and eye protection.
6) Store firearms and ammunition separately and securely, in a locked cabinet or safe.
It is also important to familiarize yourself with the specific safety features and handling procedures of any firearm you use, and to follow all laws and regulations related to firearms.

Unlock Your Shooting Potential: Become an Expert Shooter with Speed and Accuracy
Unlock Your Shooting Potential: Become an Expert Shooter with Speed and Accuracy
If I know anything it is how to get good at movement skills, and guess what? Pulling the trigger and handling a gun is movement. So, I can help you get good. Really good!
I said I would link that other podcast that goes hand in hand with this one, so here it is: https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/glbeTCcNSwb
Improvement in movement means improving motor skills, both big and small, fine and gross - whatever you want to call them (they are all motor skills). So knowing just a little about motor skill learning would totally help you.
A motor skill is a function that involves specific movements of the body to perform a certain task. These tasks could include walking, running, or riding a bike. In order to perform this skill, the body's nervous system, muscles, and brain have to all work together. The goal of motor skill is to optimize the ability to perform the skill at the rate of success, precision, and to reduce the energy consumption required for performance. Performance is an act of executing a motor skill or task. Continuous practice of a specific motor skill will result in a greatly improved performance, which leads to motor learning. Motor learning is a relatively permanent change in the ability to perform a skill as a result of continuous practice or experience.

Home Defense with an AR-15: What You Need to Consider.
Home Defense with an AR-15: What You Need to Consider.
I honestly think that I would chose my AR15 when it comes to home defense. If it was the middle of the night and my wife and I activated our threat plan I am almost 100% confident I would be pulling my AR15 our of the gun safe to use.
Here are a some elements to consider if you would make the same choice, or if you are not sure what choice you would make.
An AR-15 is a popular choice for home defense for several reasons:
Firepower: The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle that can hold a large number of rounds in its magazine, giving the user more firepower than a handgun.
Accuracy: The AR-15 is designed with a long barrel and a detachable stock, which makes it easy to aim and shoot accurately.
Customizable: The AR-15 is a modular weapon, which means that it can be customized with different sights, grips, and accessories to suit the user's needs.
Versatility: The AR-15 can be used for a variety of purposes, including home defense, hunting, and target shooting, making it a versatile option for those who want to own a firearm for multiple reasons.
Familiarity: Some people may already be familiar with the AR-15 from previous hunting or shooting experience, which can make it easier to use in a home-defense situation.
My personal (and also backed by experts) opinion on what accessories you need for effective home defense:

Home Security 101: The Basics of Keeping Your Home Safe.
Home Security 101: The Basics of Keeping Your Home Safe.
So if you are like me you own a gun for home defense and protecting your family. Although I also have ambitions to shoot competitively the main reason I started this whole deal was to protect my family from a threat. So here are some basics I have learned.
Home defense involves protecting yourself and your family from potential intruders or threats in your home. Some basic principles to consider when planning for home defense include:
Knowing your layout: Familiarize yourself with the layout of your home, including the location of doors, windows, and potential entry points.
Securing your home: Ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked and consider installing security features such as alarms or cameras.
Having a plan: Develop a plan with your family for what to do in case of an emergency, such as a home invasion.
Self-defense: Consider taking a self-defense class or training in the use of firearms for home defense.
Always be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts if something feels off.
You'll also need some helpful items whether you have a gun or do not yet have a gun such as:

Step-by-Step Instructions for how I Load and Fire my Pistol.
Step-by-Step Instructions for how I Load and Fire my Pistol.
Let me clear: I am not a professional shooter, nor am licensed to give professional advise and instruction. This information is my opinion alone.
Now up to hundreds of hours in dryfire practice and god knows how many hours in live-fire practice, I have loaded a magazine, my pistol and shot it a few times to say the least.
Here is a short step by step on how I load my started entry level 9mm pistol. I think you'll find it rather helpful if you are new to this.
If you have a gun you'll need a high quality, but normally priced gun belt. I have you covered, so go check out our 2ND AMEN Gun Belts - click here.
Loading and firing a pistol safely and effectively requires knowledge of the specific gun you are using, as well as proper technique and safety protocol.
First, make sure your pistol is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction. Check the chamber, magazine, and any other areas where ammunition may be stored to ensure it is empty.
Next, insert the magazine into the handle of the pistol and ensure it is securely seated. Some pistols will have a release button that must be pressed in order to insert the magazine.
Next, pull back the slide (or barrel) to chamber a round of ammunition. Make sure your finger is off the trigger and the gun is pointed in a safe direction while doing this.
To fire the pistol, grip the gun firmly with both hands, line up the sights on your target, and pull the trigger while keeping a steady aim. Some pistols will have a safety mechanism that must be disengaged before the gun can be fired.
It's important to remember to keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, and to always be aware of your surroundings. Always wear eye and ear protection when handling firearms and never point the gun at anything you are not prepared to shoot.
When you are finished firing, always make sure the gun is unloaded and the magazine is removed before storing it.
This is a brief overview of loading and firing a pistol, and it's always recommended to seek professional training and instruction before handling a firearm.

Avoiding Common Mistakes: A Beginner's Guide to Shooting a Pistol.
Let me be clear: I am no expert, I am not a professional shooter and this is not professional education, this information is my opinion only.
Shooting a pistol: Clearly I had mistakes, and probably still do as I'm no expert pistol shooter. However, my instructor found some problems with my stance and my grip. A few hours later and I had them straightened out with a much greater understanding of some common mistakes and helpful tips. Here they are!
Improper grip: Not gripping the pistol firmly enough or using the wrong grip can affect accuracy and control.
Flinching: Anticipating the recoil of the pistol can cause the shooter to flinch, which can negatively impact accuracy.
Not using proper sight alignment: Aligning the sights properly is essential for accurate shooting.
Jerking the trigger: Pulling the trigger too quickly or abruptly can affect accuracy and control.
Breathing technique: Holding your breath or breathing incorrectly can cause movement of the gun and affect accuracy.
Not controlling the trigger: Not maintaining steady pressure on the trigger can result in an unintentional discharge or an inaccurate shot.
Not keeping your arm extended : Not keeping your arm extended or not keeping the arm in the same position while shooting can affect accuracy.
Not maintaining a steady aim: Moving the pistol or not keeping the sights on target can cause shots to be off target.
Not cleaning the gun: A dirty gun can malfunction and affect accuracy and safety.
Not being familiar with the gun: Not being familiar with the gun's safety features, how it operates, and how to maintain it can affect performance and safety.

The Ultimate EDC Gun Belt for Women: Style, Safety and Comfort.
The Ultimate EDC Gun Belt for Women: Style, Safety and Comfort.
Just like many other markets and industries the men have a dominant role in terms of economics as they make up a bigger size than the ladies, especially in the guns and tactical world. However, in most recent years there are more and more ladies getting into concealed carry or just learning to handle a gun and weapons in general. I think this is a great thing as I know I feel more confident that my wife knows how to handle a gnu and shoot it with pretty good skills. I feel that our children are safer because of it and she is safer when I'm not with her.
Maybe its just the media outlets but it sure does seem that crime is rising everywhere globally so my wife having guns and ammo and a solid skill set puts my mind at ease.
You know the saying, if you want peace prepare for war.
With this being said the gear is pushed towards men quote often and especially gun belts. So we decided to make a gun belt that complies with all rules for competition but fits nicely with women's pant loops. Not only that but we made the denier count strong and rigid enough to hold all the gear but not strong enough to cause pain and suffering like a lot of the extra stiff men's belts.
You have to check them out, especially the ladies!

Holding Zero: How Long Should Your Rifle Scope Maintain Alignment?
Holding Zero: How Long Should Your Rifle Scope Maintain Alignment?
Recently I was asked at a local gun show how long our rifle scope held zero. And I didn't have a conclusive answer tbh. All I could say was months if you are using it and handling it with a few bumps and bangs, but if not and you are very careful it should lasts years.
Poor rifle scopes will lose zero simply after using them, which is not good. Ours thankfully is not that way!
Shop a quality reflex red dot scope here.
Holding zero refers to the ability of a rifle scope to maintain its point of aim, or the point where the crosshairs are aligned, after being adjusted and zeroed in. When a rifle scope is zeroed in, it is adjusted so that the point of impact, or where the bullet hits, matches the point of aim. Once a scope is zeroed in, it should hold zero and maintain that alignment, allowing the shooter to accurately aim at a target without the need for constant readjustment. If a scope does not hold zero, it means that the point of aim and point of impact are no longer aligned and the shooter will need to readjust the scope before taking a shot.

So I know what method I am going to be using long term but I will attempt to master the no tech version first. I imagine the learning is priceless so why the heck not ey!

Zeroing in a scope refers to the process of adjusting the scope's reticle (crosshairs) to align with the point of impact of the bullet. This allows the shooter to aim at a target and have the bullet hit the target at the point of aim. There are several methods for zeroing a scope, including low-tech and no-tech methods.
Low-tech methods include using a bore sighter or a laser boresight. A bore sighter is a tool that is inserted into the barrel of the firearm and projects a laser or reticle onto a distant target, allowing the shooter to align the scope's reticle with the projected reticle. A laser boresight is a laser that attaches to the muzzle of the firearm, and projects a laser dot onto the target, which can be aligned with the scope's reticle.
No-tech methods involve adjusting the scope by shooting at a target and observing where the bullet hits in relation to the reticle. This is done by firing a few rounds at a target at a known distance, and then adjusting the scope's windage and elevation turrets to align the reticle with the point of impact. Once the scope is zeroed, the shooter can aim at a target and know that the bullet will hit the point of aim.
It is important to note that zeroing a scope is also affected by the distance of the target, bullet caliber, and wind conditions, so it is recommended to re-zero the scope if conditions change.

Co-witnessing refers to the alignment of the iron sights on a firearm with the reticle (crosshairs) in a scope. This allows the shooter to use the iron sights and scope simultaneously, with the iron sights visible through the scope. Co-witnessing is useful in case the scope becomes damaged or runs out of battery, as the shooter can still use the iron sights to shoot accurately. It also allows the shooter to quickly transition between using the scope for long-range shots and the iron sights for close-range shots.

Co witnessing - what exactly is it? I asked this question when I was doing the initial research for our tube style reflex red dot sight. Someone asked me a question and referred to co-witnessing so I went down the rabbit hole! Haha
For super fast target acquisition check out this reflex red dot scope, learn more.
Co-witnessing refers to the practice of using multiple sighting systems, such as iron sights and a red dot sight or holographic sight, on a firearm at the same time. The idea is that if one sight fails or becomes obstructed, the shooter can quickly switch to the other sight and continue to engage targets. Co-witnessing can be achieved by having both the iron sights and the red dot sight/holographic sight mounted at the same height, allowing the shooter to look through the red dot sight or holographic sight and still see the iron sights in the same field of view. This way the shooter can maintain a proper sight alignment and target acquisition in case the electronic sight battery fails or the electronic sight malfunctions.
It's a useful technique that helps increase the shooter's accuracy and versatility in the field, and it's commonly used by law enforcement, military, and competitive shooters. Keep in mind that co-witnessing only works properly when the iron sights and the electronic sight are zeroed and aligned at the same point of impact.

Hit Your Target Every Time: How to Zero in Your Rifle Scope
I did initially think that after I purchasing a sight or scope that I just install it and that's it, its done and wherever the dot or crosshair is pointing is what Im going to hit but it turns out that's not quite the case. You MUST zero it in.

Zeroing in a rifle scope refers to the process of adjusting the scope's reticle (the crosshairs or other aiming point) to align with the point of impact of the bullet at a specific distance. This allows the shooter to accurately hit targets at that distance without the need for holdover or compensation.
The process typically involves shooting a group of shots at a target set at a known distance, and then adjusting the scope's elevation and windage turrets (or knobs) to move the point of impact of the bullets to match the position of the reticle. Once the reticle and bullet impact are aligned, the rifle is considered "zeroed" at that distance.
Zeroing a rifle scope is an important step for any shooter looking to achieve accurate shots at different distances. It's important to know that the process is usually done at a specific distance, usually 100 yards for most rifle zeroing, but the distance can vary depending on the caliber, the ammunition and the purpose of the rifle. Once the rifle is zeroed, the shooter can use the reticle to estimate holdover or windage corrections for targets at other ranges, using the reticle's markings or ballistic calculators or reticle.

The Fundamentals of Objective and Ocular Lenses in Gun Scopes.
The Fundamentals of Objective and Ocular Lenses in Gun Scopes.
Before you go any further, if you need a reflex red dot sight, look no further than our tube style one right here:
The objective lens of a scope is the lens located at the front of the scope, closest to the target. It is responsible for gathering light and forming an image of the target. The size and quality of the objective lens can affect the overall performance of the scope, particularly in low light conditions.
The ocular lens is the lens located at the rear of the scope, closest to the shooter's eye. It is responsible for magnifying the image formed by the objective lens and for focusing the image so that it appears clearly to the shooter. The ocular lens is typically adjustable, allowing the shooter to fine-tune the focus of the image to their individual vision. The size and quality of the ocular lens can also affect the overall performance of the scope.
In summary, the objective and ocular lenses are important components of a scope that work together to form a clear and accurate image of the target for the shooter. The size and quality of these lenses can affect the performance of the scope and are important considerations when choosing a scope.

FFP vs. SFP: Understanding the Different Types of Focal Planes for your Gun Optics.
FFP vs. SFP: Understanding the Different Types of Focal Planes for your Gun Optics.
Our first episode based on a request! So exciting. I understood somewhat this topic but it was interesting diving a little deeper in my research. I thought of a few different podcasts to cover the topic in much detail and today we'll start with some basics.
The main difference between first focal plane (FFP) and second focal plane (SFP) scopes is how the reticle size changes as the magnification is adjusted. In an FFP scope, the reticle size changes along with the magnification, so the size of the crosshairs relative to the target stays the same at all magnification levels. In an SFP scope, the reticle size stays the same at all magnification levels, so the size of the crosshairs relative to the target will change as the magnification is adjusted.

A guide to rifle sling mounts. An essential upgrade for your firearm.
A guide to rifle sling mounts. An essential upgrade for your firearm.
When I was attempting to put on my rifle sling I almost smashed my equipment to pieces. My rifle did not have 2 attachment points, and I did not know what sling mount to go with, what was compatible and what exactly I needed to add to my rifle in order to have a two-point attachment sling. I was angry to say the least!
To install a 2-point rifle sling on your AR-15, you will need:
A 2-point rifle sling
Sling attachment points or mounting hardware, such as QD (quick detach) swivels or Paraclip connectors
A wrench or pliers (if you are installing mounting hardware that requires tools)
To install the sling:
First, attach the sling attachment points or mounting hardware to the front and rear of the rifle. This will typically involve screwing the hardware into place or attaching it to a rail system.
Next, thread the ends of the sling through the attachment points or hardware.
Adjust the length of the sling to your desired preference, making sure that it is tightened enough to hold the rifle securely but not so tight that it is uncomfortable to wear.
Test the sling by shouldering the rifle and making sure that it is stable and comfortable.
If you are uncertain about how to install the sling or mounting hardware, it is always a good idea to refer to the instructions provided by the manufacturer or to seek guidance from a knowledgeable individual.

Attaching a Rifle Sling to Your Rifle: Beginner Tips
Attaching a Rifle Sling to Your Rifle: Beginner Tips
This was driving me mad and in the end it would have been good to know just this little bit of information.
My rifle only had 1 attachment point situated on the rifle, which was at the buttstock. There was nothing else at the foreend or on the barrel so I found myself looking for additional parts.
Attaching a rifle sling to a rifle allows you to carry the rifle comfortably and conveniently, freeing up your hands for other tasks. There are several ways to attach a rifle sling, depending on the type of sling and the rifle itself. Most rifles have at least one attachment point on the buttstock and one on the fore-end of the rifle, which can be used to attach a two-point sling. Single-point and three-point slings only require a single attachment point on the buttstock. If your rifle does not have an attachment point at the fore-end, you will need to install one, such as a sling swivel or a sling mount, before you can attach the sling. Once the attachment points are in place, you can attach the sling by threading the straps through the attachment points and securing them in place with a buckle or a snap. It is important to adjust the length of the sling to your preference and test it to ensure it is securely attached and properly adjusted.

Field of View: The Key Factor in Choosing the Right Gun Optic
Field of View: The Key Factor in Choosing the Right Gun Optic
Field of view (FOV) is an important factor to consider when choosing a gun sight. It refers to the width of the area that you can see through the sight, measured in degrees or linear units. A wider field of view allows you to see more of your surroundings, which can be helpful for target acquisition and situational awareness. However, a wide field of view may also result in a less precise sight picture, as objects may appear smaller and more distant. On the other hand, a narrow field of view can provide a more precise sight picture, but it may be more difficult to locate targets and judge distances. The ideal field of view for a gun sight will depend on the specific needs and preferences of the shooter.

Find the Perfect Rail System for Your Firearm: Picatinny or Weaver?
Find the Perfect Rail System for Your Firearm: Picatinny or Weaver?
Thankfully the rail system on my AR and Pistol was already installed and it is the picatinny rail system. After doing some research I found this was the most common industry wide and it is why most manufacturers are including picatinny rails as standard on their firearms. However I did come across another rail system that is just not as common but should be known of.
Picatinny rails and Weaver rails are both mounting systems that are used to attach accessories such as scopes, sights, and bipods to firearms. The main difference between the two is the size and shape of the slots on the rail. Picatinny rails have evenly spaced slots that are 0.206 inches wide, while Weaver rails have unevenly spaced slots that are about 0.180 inches wide. Picatinny rails are more widely used and are the standard for many firearm manufacturers, while Weaver rails are used less frequently and may not be as widely available. Picatinny rails are generally considered to be more durable and easier to use due to their standardized design, but they can also be more expensive than Weaver rails.

LPVOs: the perfect blend of accuracy and versatility.
LPVOs: the perfect blend of accuracy and versatility.
When looking at a bunch of sights and scopes I came across LPVO and for a while I simply skipped right past it until a few days ago. I'm glad I clicked this time to learn more. I will totally be buying one to play around with. After I have some first hand experience Ill share with you my thoughts.
An LPVO, or low power variable optic, is a type of rifle scope that is designed for use at closer ranges and for rapid target acquisition. LPVOs typically have a lower magnification range (usually up to around 8x) and a wide field of view, which makes them well-suited for shooting at moving targets or targets at close to medium distances. They are often compact and lightweight, and are built to withstand rough handling and harsh conditions. LPVOs are popular among shooters who need a versatile, durable, and portable optic for a wide range of shooting scenarios.

Discover the benefits of fixed and variable scopes.
Discover the benefits of fixed and variable scopes.
I believe now that there are basically 2 categories of scopes, and that is fixed and variable. So here I outline what both are for you. Hope it helps!
A fixed scope is a rifle scope with a single, unchanging magnification level. These scopes are generally simpler and more affordable than variable scopes, and they may be preferred by some shooters for their simplicity and lack of moving parts. However, a fixed scope may not be suitable for shooting at varying distances, as it can only provide a single magnification level.
On the other hand, a variable scope is a rifle scope with a magnification level that can be adjusted. These scopes typically have a range of magnification levels that can be selected by turning a dial or lever on the scope. This allows the shooter to adjust the magnification to suit the distance of the target. Variable scopes are more versatile than fixed scopes, but they may be more expensive and have more moving parts that could potentially fail.
If you want a fixed scope then look no further than our simple reflex red dot by 2nd Amen.

Gun Optics: Understanding magnification in optics: a beginner's guide?
Gun Optics: Understanding magnification in optics: a beginner's guide?
If you are looking for an optic for your gun then you will be seeing this quite a lot, or you'll be seeing numbers and dashes and digits within the products title. I did some digging and learned a few things, which have proved to be helpful when considering a rifle scope and its magnification.
Magnification is an important specification to consider when choosing a rifle scope. It refers to the level of detail that the scope is able to provide when looking at a distant object. A higher magnification allows for a more detailed and closer view of the target, but it can also make the image more difficult to stabilize and may reduce the field of view. A lower magnification provides a wider field of view, but the image may be less detailed. The appropriate magnification for a rifle scope depends on the intended use of the scope and the distance of the target. Some scopes have a fixed magnification, while others have a variable magnification that can be adjusted. It's important to choose a magnification that is suitable for the intended shooting range and purpose.

Rifle Scope Specs: What You Need to Know.
Rifle Scope Specs: What You Need to Know.
So while I was scrolling through the endless world of optics I found myself seeing a lot of the same specifications and I have to be honest, I didn't know what they meant to begin with.
A rifle scope is a vital piece of equipment for any serious shooter or hunter. In order to choose the right scope for your needs, it's important to understand the various specifications and features that are available. These may include the size and weight of the scope, the type of reticle (crosshairs or dots) and its style, the magnification and field of view, the eye relief, and the durability and waterproofing of the scope. Each of these specs can affect the performance and functionality of the scope, so it's important to consider them carefully before making a purchase. By understanding the specs of a rifle scope, you can ensure that you get the best scope for your specific needs and shooting style.

What is Parallax on gun optics? Scopes, sights and their parallax.
What is Parallax on gun optics? Scopes, sights and their parallax.
If you are unsure what parallax means on gun optics then you are right where I used to be. I am no expert but I now understand what this is and why it is so important.
Check out the reflex red dot tube style sight from 2nd Amen Here.
In gun optics, parallax refers to the apparent shift in the position of an object viewed through the sight when the position of the viewer's eye changes. This can cause inaccuracies when aiming, as the point of impact may not align with the point of aim.
To eliminate this issue, many gun optics are designed with parallax correction, which adjusts the sight so that the point of aim remains consistent regardless of the position of the viewer's eye. This can significantly improve the accuracy of the shot.
Parallax correction is typically adjustable, allowing the shooter to fine-tune the sight for different distances. Some gun optics also have a fixed parallax setting, which is optimized for a specific distance and reduces the need for adjustment.
Overall, the use of parallax correction in gun optics can greatly improve the accuracy and precision of shooting, making it an important feature to consider when choosing an optic for your firearm.

What is MOA (Minute of angle) for my gun optic?
What is MOA (Minute of angle) for my gun optic?
MOA... i'm sorry what was that? What the heck is MOA (Minute of angle) and why do I need to know this? This is what was going on in my mind when I came across this specification. I soon learned what it was and it makes total sense. A bullet doesn't just fly exactly where you point the gun for ever right, there are elements like gravity, wind and elevation that we have to consider! Haha silly me.
Shop a quality reflex red dot sight by 2nd Amen here.
MOA, or Minute of Angle, is a unit of measurement used in gun optics to describe the size of the dot or reticle in the scope or the size of the group of shots fired from the firearm. One MOA is equal to 1/60th of a degree, or about 1 inch at 100 yards, 1.047 inches at 110 yards, 2 inches at 200 yards, etc.
In gun optics, MOA is often used to describe the adjustments made to the scope's reticle to account for bullet drop and windage. For example, if a scope has a reticle with 1 MOA markings, then moving the reticle one mark to the right or left will move the point of impact of the bullet approximately 1 inch at 100 yards. Some scopes have MOA adjustments that allow the user to fine-tune the point of impact by turning a knob or making other adjustments.
MOA is just one of several units of measurement that can be used in gun optics. Others include Mils (milliradians), which is similar to MOA but is based on metric units instead of imperial units. It is important for the user to understand the units of measurement used in their optics and how to make the necessary adjustments to ensure accurate shots.

Gun Optics: What is eye relief? Take your shooting to the next level with our advanced gun optics technology.
If you are anything like me you will have google at the ready when learning about optics. As soon as I read the term 'eye relief' I googled 'What is eye relief?' and a whole bunch more. After learning about it more and listening to some other folks who know far more than I do I learned this.
Shop a quality reflex tube-style red dot sight here from 2nd Amen
Eye relief is also an important factor to consider when using optics on firearms, such as scopes or red dot sights. Eye relief is the distance between the eyepiece of the optic and the user's eye, and it determines how comfortable and accurate the user will be when aiming through the optic. Long eye relief allows the user to comfortably view the reticle from a distance, while short eye relief can cause discomfort or even strain on the user's eye. It is important to choose an optic with appropriate eye relief for the intended use and user, as well as the recoil of the firearm. Too short of an eye relief can result in the user getting "scope bite," where the eyepiece of the scope hits the user's eyebrow or cheek during recoil. Too long of an eye relief can make it difficult for the user to get a proper sight picture and may affect accuracy.

Optics talk: What is a red dot sight, or a reflex red dot sight?
Optics talk: What is a red dot sight, or a reflex red dot sight?
So red dot is more of a generalization. That's what I have come to find anyway. There are several types of red dot sights available on the market. Some common types include:
Tube red dot sights: These red dots have a round tube shape and use a simple red dot reticle. They are often more affordable than other types of red dots and are easy to use.
Open/exposed reflex red dot sights: These red dots have a wide, flat shape and use a simple red dot reticle. They are lightweight and have a low profile, making them a popular choice for handgun and shotgun use.
Holographic red dot sights: These red dots use a holographic reticle that projects a dot or other reticle pattern onto the lens. They offer a more precise aiming point than other types of red dots and can be used for a wide range of firearms.
Prism red dot sights: These red dots use a prism to project the reticle onto the lens. They offer a more precise aiming point than other types of red dots and are generally more compact and lightweight than holographic red dots.
Laser red dot sights: These red dots use a laser to project a dot onto the target. They are generally more affordable than other types of red dots, but they can be less durable and have a limited range.

Safely practice anytime, anywhere with dry fire training.
Dryfire practice: When my instructor mentioned this I was a little lost so after about 20 minutes I plucked up the courage to ask "hey man, what is dryfire practice?". Haha here is my take on it so far!
Dry fire practice refers to the act of practicing firearm handling and shooting techniques without live ammunition. There are several reasons why dry fire practice can be beneficial for shooters:
It is safe: Dry fire practice eliminates the risk of accidental discharge or injury from live ammunition.
It is convenient: Dry fire practice can be done anytime, anywhere, as long as it is safe and legal to do so. This makes it an easy and convenient way to practice and improve shooting skills.
It is cost-effective: Dry fire practice does not require the purchase of live ammunition, making it a more affordable way to practice.
It helps to develop muscle memory: Repetitive dry fire practice can help shooters develop muscle memory and improve their shooting techniques, such as trigger control and sight alignment.
It allows for focused training: Without the distractions and consequences of live fire, shooters can focus on specific aspects of their shooting technique and make corrections without the pressure of live rounds.
It helps to maintain proficiency: Regular dry fire practice can help shooters maintain their shooting skills and stay proficient in handling their firearm.
Overall, dry fire practice can be an effective and convenient way for shooters to improve their skills and maintain proficiency in handling their firearm. It is important to follow proper safety protocols and use a dry fire training aid, such as a dummy round or snap cap, to protect the firearm from damage during dry fire practice.

Holographic sights: A solid aiming solution for your firearm.
Holographic sights: A solid aiming solution for your firearm.
Okay so I am not a huge fan of the holographic sight but you never know, I may change my mind one day. I am a newbie after all!
I learned a little about them and it is interesting, especially the construction complexity verses a reflex sight.
A holographic sight, also known as a holographic weapon sight or holographic diffraction sight, is a type of firearm sight that projects a reticle, or aiming point, onto a small glass window in front of the shooter's eye. The reticle is typically in the shape of a dot or a crosshair, and it can be used to aim the firearm more accurately at a target.
Holographic sights work by using a laser to project the reticle onto the glass window. The reticle is created by the interference pattern of two lasers, one of which is reflected off a holographic grating and the other of which is reflected off a mirror. This creates a three-dimensional image of the reticle that appears to be floating in front of the shooter's eye.
Holographic sights are popular with shooters because they offer several advantages over traditional iron sights. They are faster to acquire a target with, as the reticle is always in the shooter's field of view, and they are more accurate at longer ranges. They are also more durable than iron sights, as they do not rely on mechanical parts that can break or become misaligned.
Holographic sights are commonly used on rifles and shotguns, but they can also be found on handguns, crossbows, and other types of firearms. They are typically mounted on the top rail of the firearm, allowing the shooter to co-witness the reticle with the iron sights if desired.

Find the best reflex sight for your rifle: A comparison of tube style and open options.
Reflex sights: Open style red dot sight & tube style red dot sight.
Tube style red dot by 2nd Amen
This can get quite confusing so I have tried to simplify it as much as possible.
Reflex sights are a popular type of optic that are used to improve accuracy and speed when aiming at a target. These sights use a reticle, such as a red dot or crosshair, to help the shooter aim their firearm. There are two main types of reflex sights: tube style and open.
Tube style reflex sights are characterized by their cylindrical shape, which is similar to a traditional telescopic sight. They are designed to be mounted on a firearm, such as a rifle or shotgun, and they use a reticle to help the shooter aim. Tube style reflex sights are known for their durability and reliability, and they are often favored by shooters who want a simple and effective aiming solution for their firearm.
Open reflex sights, on the other hand, are characterized by their open design, which allows the shooter to see through the sight and keep their peripheral vision. These sights are typically smaller and lighter than tube style sights, and they are often used on handguns or other firearms where size and weight are a concern. Open reflex sights are known for their fast target acquisition and ease of use, and they are a popular choice among shooters who need to aim quickly and accurately.
When choosing a reflex sight for your rifle, it is important to consider your specific needs and preferences. Both tube style and open reflex sights have their own unique features and benefits, and the best option for you will depend on your shooting style and the type of firearm you are using.

I may be biased but only because I did the leg work in finding and testing tube style red dot sights before launching our own branded tube style red dot sight!
However, everyone is different and feels differently so I'm going to just share what I know about tube style red dot sights.
Get on target faster with our Match 1.0 Tube Style Red Dot Sight
Tube style red dot rifle sights are a popular choice among shooters looking to improve their accuracy and speed when aiming at a target. These optics are designed to be mounted on a firearm, such as a rifle or shotgun, and they use a red dot or other reticle to help the shooter aim.
Tube style red dot sights are characterized by their cylindrical shape, which is similar to a traditional telescopic sight. However, unlike a telescopic sight, a red dot sight does not have magnification, so it does not make the target appear closer. Instead, the red dot or reticle is used to aim the firearm at the target.
One of the main benefits of a tube style red dot sight is that it allows the shooter to keep both eyes open while aiming, which can improve their situational awareness and overall shooting performance. These sights are also generally lightweight and compact, making them easy to mount and carry.
Tube style red dot sights are suitable for a wide range of shooting applications, including hunting, competitive shooting, and self-defense. They are known for their durability and reliability, and they are often favored by shooters who want a simple and effective aiming solution for their firearm.

The classifications are based on the shooter's time and accuracy in various stages of an IDPA match, as well as their overall score.

This system helps to promote growth and improvement in the IDPA community, as shooters have the opportunity to test their skills against others of similar ability. The red dot is displayed on the same plane as the target, making it easy to align the dot with the target and shoot accurately. Red dot reflex scopes typically have a wide field of view and a simple, uncluttered reticle, which can be useful for shooting in dynamic situations or at close range. The Concealed Carry Boom: Why More and More People are Carrying Guns
The Concealed Carry Boom: Why More and More People are Carrying Guns
I am going through the process of getting my concealed carry permit and think that its a great move. The reasons why concealed carry is becoming much popular is a long list, but here is what I nailed it down to:
Self-defense: Many people carry guns for self-defense purposes, either because they feel that their personal safety is at risk or because they live in an area with high crime rates. Carrying a gun can provide a sense of security and protection against potential threats.
Empowerment: Some people carry guns as a way of feeling more empowered and in control of their surroundings. Carrying a gun can give people a sense of agency and the ability to defend themselves if necessary.
Political beliefs: For some people, carrying a gun is a way of expressing their support for gun rights and the Second Amendment. These individuals may believe that owning and carrying a gun is an important right that should be protected.
Cultural and social norms: In some communities, carrying a gun is seen as a normal and acceptable activity. These communities may have a strong gun culture, and carrying a gun may be seen as a way of upholding traditional values and norms.
Personal preference: Finally, some people may simply enjoy the experience of carrying a gun and the sense of responsibility that it brings. They may find that carrying a gun is a meaningful and fulfilling hobby.

Gun Rights: A Closer Look at the Second Amendment
Gun Rights: A Closer Look at the Second Amendment
This is a touchy subject folks! The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This protection is seen as fundamental to the security of a free state, and the courts have consistently upheld the legality of gun ownership and the rights of individuals to possess firearms for lawful purposes. Gun rights advocates argue that the amendment guarantees an individual’s right to possess firearms for self-defense, hunting, and other lawful activities, while gun control advocates argue that the amendment does not guarantee an individual’s right to possess firearms and that regulation of gun ownership is necessary to protect public safety. Gun Safety and Responsible Gun Ownership
Gun Safety and Responsible Gun Ownership
Gun safety and responsible gun ownership are two of the most important topics in today’s society. While the debate over the issue of gun control continues to rage, responsible gun ownership is something that all gun owners should strive for. Gun safety is the practice of following safety procedures and rules for handling firearms, and responsible gun ownership is about being aware of the laws that govern gun ownership and use. Responsible gun owners also understand the importance of proper storage and maintenance of their firearms, as well as the importance of proper safety training. By following safety precautions and adhering to the laws that govern gun ownership, we can all be responsible gun owners and help ensure the safe and responsible use of firearms.

The Pros and Cons of Gun Ownership?
The Pros and Cons of Gun Ownership?
The debate over gun ownership has been raging for decades, with both sides claiming to have the moral high ground. It is a complex and divisive issue that is often emotionally charged and highly politicized. On one side, there are those who support gun ownership for the purpose of self-defense, hunting, and sport shooting. On the other side, those who argue that gun ownership increases the risk of violence and should be strictly regulated. In this podcast I explore both sides of the argument, weighing the pros and cons of gun ownership.

Essential EDC Gun Gear. An EDC Gun Belt is right towards the top of this list.
Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
No matter what your purpose of owning a gun is you'll find you need a good quality, well functioning EDC Gun Belt. Whether for conceal carry, tactical shooting, competitive shooting or just shooting at the range as a hobby. A good quality rigid, stiff yet comfortable EDC Gun Belt is going to go down well in your own books. The thing to look for with this in my experience is the denier of the nylon (that's if you chose to go with nylon, which I would say is a good idea over traditional leather), and it has to be somewhere between 600 and 800 Denier. Denier is basically the strength and rigidity of the belt so above 800 and you'll find the belt gets too stiff, and is very uncomfortable. Less than 300 and the belt is too soft and folds over too easily making the belt not usable for carrying much let alone a gun. 350 to 600 Denier and the belt can handle small loads but the real sweet spot for a good quality EDC gun belt is 600 Denier. You also ant to make sure the belt width is 1.3" to 1.5" and at least 3.5mm thick, which most ballistic 2 PLY nylon is. We make a bad ass EDC gun belt at 2nd Amen that gets tons of positive reviews and feedback so you should definitely consider it when looking for your next EDC gun belt.

Guns for Women, Best hand gun for a women [2022] & Entry level men [2022]
Its not just me that was brand new to owning and operating a gun. My wife was totally onboard and wanted to suit up too. Kids really did change our outlook and lens we see the world through so off we went to buy our first guns as newbies. My wife held and played around with many smaller lightweight handguns simply because she hadn't had the hours and time practicing under her belt handling the recoil etc. I too had similar aspects to consider being a new gun shooter so when it came to characteristics of a gun we both needed similar elements. Smith and Wesson Shield EZ 9mm was my choice & the Smith & Wesson M&P 22 Compact was my wife's choice but we did consider a few others. Here is what we think is the best handgun for a women and an entry level man.

AR15 for home defense and our new red dot rifle scope
AR15 for home defense and our new red dot rifle scope
Now I have multiple guns and an AR15, I may plan to use it for home defense, especially now I am getting more skilled using it. However an AR isn't typically used for home defense since its designed with a long barrel for medium to long range precision shooting. Anyway for medium to short range shooting a reflex red dot rifle scope is an ideal addition to help when you are attempting to point, aim and shoot. Our company Charter Tactical just brought in a simple reflex red dot rifle scope. I am super excited to video unboxing it and installing it later today! Ill share the video on all our socials.

Gun Range Essentials. Is it your first time at a gun range, here's my essentials.
Gun Range Essentials. Is it your first time at a gun range, here's my essentials.
The first time I went to an indoor gun range with my own gun I found that I need a small bag to carry all the things I thought I needed. Surprisingly you need quite a few items for a productive range session, and some of them are required otherwise you won't be allowed to shoot without hiring them at the range. Listen to this podcast to get a good idea of what you should take to the gun range, especially as a newbie! As always, experts - If I missed anything please reach out and say! Not only will I learn more but the people who do listen to this (Hey Mum), will learn something extra too!

What bullets or ammunition do I buy for my new gun, 9mm pistol or similar?
What bullets or ammunition do I buy for my new gun, 9mm pistol or similar?
Just a heads up on this one folks, the wife and kids walk into the room so I quickly and out of nowhere stop recording. I was about to be done anyway. Big topic and lots more to learn but here is what I have found to date on ammunition for my entry level 9mm pistol. The 9mm pistol is what most folks are going to be going with for home defense as I did so I started with what I have purchased, fired and are advancing towards. As I get more into different guns that utilize different calibers etc. I will share more but until then. Ill only talk about what I am doing or learning when it comes to ammunition.

Red Dot & Holographic Sights for Pistol - some basics. Point. Aim. Shoot.
Red Dot & Holographic Sights for Pistol - some basics. Point. Aim. Shoot.
As a newbie I felt it was important to use anything that could help me hit my target. After all that's the whole point of using a gun right!? To destroy whatever it is pointing at if need be. So with that being said I knew there were tools out there that can assist me in this and turn out is recommended by experts also. So I took to looking into sights, scopes, red and green dots and holographic sights. My god every time I dive into something that seems so simple on the outside, it ends up being a gigantic rabbit hole on the inside - its a good job I like it! So here I talk a little about a red dot sight and a holographic sight, and a barely scratch any surface so stay tuned for more in this realm.

What gun should I buy? [Entry Level 9mm Mainly For Home Defense & Learning]
So one of the initial tasks you are going to be faced with is actually purchasing your first gun. This is both exciting and intimidating, or at least it was for me. I was thinking that I should start with a small hand gun to learn and get comfortable with before going balls to the wall John Wick style. So with that being said I found that the Smith & Wesson Shield EZ 9mm was the one for me. Here are some steps and items to consider when heading out to buy your first gun.

How do I buy a gun? Pretty simply to be honest.
How do I buy a gun? Pretty simply to be honest.
You are now ready to go and buy your gun. Its not like a grocery shop so what do you need to do and how do you buy your 1st gun? There's really only 2 ways to buy your 1st gun and I have experience doing it 1 way. I did some research on the other way but can't speak to it too much. Locally or online are your options and I would advise going locally to see it and feel it before you buy your first gun.

What type of gun do you need? Well that depends...
What type of gun do you need? Well that depends...
So you are involved, and committed to buying a gun. Its probably for home defense as that's the case for most people and new gun owners. So, first you need to first know what gun you need to be considering and why. Different types of guns are for very different purposes so god forbid you want to go hunting deer and all you have is a small 9mm pistol. Listen to what I have to say because the source of where I am coming from makes a lot of sense and may save you wasting your time and money.

4 Basic Gun Safety Rules by Tactical Dad. Safety first!
We are dealing with very dangerous equipment here so it is only right that our 1st real podcast episode, after I talk about myself that is, consists of staying safe. Guns can do serious damage and so we must know how to handle them, or at least keep safe with them. Here are the 4 basic gun safety rules I have learned that seem pretty universal anywhere you go to learn how to use a gun.

As a British citizen now living in America, owning a gun and possibly becoming the next James Bond or John Wick is a little more realistic. Well at least I seem to think so! I am no expert, and have no expert advice... right now. But I am a new gun owner taking lots of instruction and learning the ropes with seasoned vets and expert marksmen so I am documenting the whole process for those 5 million new gun owners in 2021 alone and the millions more to come. Here is episode 1 sharing who I am, why I am doing this, and how I got here? Listen now.
