TST Ep 77: Sager Beer Works with Paul Guarracini

When you come to Sager you are in for a terrific experience. Sagar is a 5 BBL brewhouse, a cozy tap room filled with old-world charm that features a German-style long table S-bar and comfy corner. One thing you’ll also see is a sign with a quote from William Butler Yeats, “There Are No Strangers Here; Only Friends You Haven’t Yet Met”. Paul Guarracini, Co-Founder/Brewmaster of Sager Beer Works, and his business partner Don Tuminelli, created a “Beer Lover’s Haven” where friends and family can meet to eat, drink and just hang out. They didn’t just stop with an amazing atmosphere, terrific beer, and great food…they took over 20 years of craft brewing passion and built clever ways to help non-profits and positively impact the community.

About Paul Guarracini, Partner/Brewmaster Sager Beer Works

Email: paul@sagerbeerworks.com

After thirty-plus years in Supply Chain & Logistics at Eastman Kodak, Paul achieved a dream held by many homebrewers like himself and decided to go "pro" in 2012. His first brewery, Fairport Brewing Co, was successful but partnerships can be difficult, and he separated from that business in 2017. Soon thereafter, he reunited with Don Tumminelli, another local homebrewer, to open Sager Beer Works in 2018. Focusing on classic beers brewed by Paul, elevated pub food by Don, and a cozy environment to enjoy them, the brewpub has firmly established itself in the Rochester beer scene. Reflecting on their journey and those that have helped them, Paul and Don have a habit of sharing knowledge and giving back through seminars, charity beer projects, and mentoring start-up breweries.

Ep. 62: GiveToGet with Jon Mardis

Ep. 62: GiveToGet with Jon Mardis

Imagine being surrounded by people who want to help you land your preferred job and being proactively approached by several employers trying to recruit you. Your next job starts with GiveToGet. Join host Nick Koziol as we learn from Jon Mardis how GiveToGet is Revolutionizing the Job Transition World.

About Jon Mardis, Founder GiveToGet

Email: jon@givetoget.us
LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jonathan-mardis-mba

Jon Mardis is the Founder of a Revolutionary Talent Acquisition Solution called GIVETOGET - Cincinnati Born & Raised, went to St. X and UC Grad and has an MBA in Finance & Marketing.

The motto at his high school was “men for others” and it stuck with him in life and career. He found that this life-guiding principle was far less common than he had hoped or expected, and it was this M.O. that inspired a vision and decision to leave a successful 20-year career as a leader in financial services to create something unique. Mardis saw a HUGE opportunity and is fired up to talk about it!

In 2019, Mardis was entrenched in the job transition world as a Managing Director and lead recruiter for a firm when he experienced firsthand the problems that he was attempting to solve. Job seekers don’t help job seekers, lack social networks and connections to get referred to employers and resort to job boards as there’s no external platform dedicated to providing warm introductions into employers. Employers are disconnected from talent and focus too much on sourcing on job boards. Talent acquisition isn’t personal, yet referrals are the #1 source of talent acquisition.

His concept and approach would disrupt a stale and fragmented industry but had no idea after going dormant in 2020, that in 2021, HR tech would be the latest craze for innovation and capital. If he didn’t recognize that talent acquisition isn’t personal and job transition is inefficient and takes personal actions to fill these voids, Mardis wouldn’t have taken the initiative to launch his company in March 2021. Mardis is excited about the journey and in love with the problems that they are solving.

Hear Your Song, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that empowers children and teens with serious illnesses and complex health needs to make their voices heard through collaborative songwriting. Kids living with significant health challenges need the chance to show the world — and sometimes to hear for themselves, too — that they are more than their diagnoses.

In live, collaborative songwriting sessions, Hear Your Song volunteers work with children and teens to guide them through the process of writing their own song lyrics. Using the kid songwriter’s ideas for musical style, melody, instrumentation, and tempo, volunteer composers and musicians then set those words to music and record the song to be heard, celebrated, and shared.

Hear Your Song partners with pediatric hospitals, camps, schools, and other nonprofit programs that serve kids experiencing serious illnesses and complex health needs. Hear Your Song’s volunteers collaborate with kids through campus-based chapters and at the organization’s national level. All of our programs are available to our families and partner organizations free of charge.

Dylan accepted this role as it truly allows his knowledge of accounting to not just educate others, but to empower them to make impactful decisions for their business. His passion of helping individuals roles over into the work he does in his free time. The Walker family founded a non-profit to help improve the lives of others. They want to help families like ours. Dylan’s family lost their loving father and husband at the young age of 42. He battled cancer for four years and unfortunately lost the fight. They were left with a widowed mother who at the time was only a part-time employee at Walmart. Through the support of family and friends, the Walker Family could pick themselves up and continue to push forward. Dylan wanted to do the same thing for similar families who have gone through the same type of loss. The mission of the Scot T. Walker Foundation is to raise money to help single-parents pay rents, car payments, athletic costs, academic costs, and therapy costs. The Walker Family know from experience that there are others with so much potential, and we want to help people unlock that potential. Being dealt a bad hand should not cause families to crumble, so hopefully with the support from this foundation will the help others to stand tall.

Episode 40: Roc City Greens

Branden Raczkowski combined his love of biology, cuisine, and the environment to create Roc City Greens. His company provides fresh local microgreens. What are Microgreens? Microgreens are small edible plants, typically 1-3 inches tall and are often used to bring more color and flavor to meals. Unlike your typical fresh veggies, microgreens are much more nutrient-dense than their mature counterpart. So if you want great-tasting terrific meals with higher nutritional value then you should make sure you are getting your veggies from Roc City Greens.

After two years of research, development, and product trials, Roc City Greens LLC. launched in May of 2019 and has been Rochester’s highest quality producer of microgreens ever since. Roc City Greens makes everything in small batches locally at their small growing facility based in a suburb of Rochester, New York, and even supplies some local restaurants.

They give customers healthy and delicious microgreens, but most of all,  expand people’s access to fresh microgreens by working with restaurants and grocers in our immediate area to provide hyper-locally sourced products to our community.

Branden Raczkowski has his formal education in Biology and spent 10 years managing the Environmental Health and Safety compliance for various manufacturing/food manufacturing companies.  Branden currently sits on the Board of Directors for a software development company along with developing an online community of Occupational Safety Professionals: Safety Knights.   When starting his latest venture, Roc City Greens, Branden was looking to combine his passion for culinary with his professional background in environmental sustainability and food safety. Recognizing a largely unfulfilled need for year-round, local, sustainably grown produce in Rochester - he started a microgreens farm in order to begin the quest to fill that need. By growing locally and organically, with modern vertical farming techniques and equipment, Branden aims to maximize the nutritional value of what local Rochesterians are eating by eliminating the time between harvest and your plate.

Episode 39: 13thirty Cancer Connect

Episode 39: 13thirty Cancer Connect

Teens and young adults have many challenges in this world. They are starting things like high school, college, and their first real job. The stress of peer pressure alone can be enough to make some crumble. Add a cancer diagnosis and this group can often find themselves isolated and unsure of where to turn. 13thirty Cancer Connect is unlike most cancer support organizations. They concentrate efforts on a targeted national problem that affects approximately 89,000 young people in the US each year. Executive Director, Lauren Spiker, founded this organization because her daughter Melissa’s last request was that her mother uses what she had learned to “make a difference, to make things better." Melissa’s legacy is a community of supporters that make huge impacts in the lives of young adults and their families. Join host Nick Koziol with guests Lauren Spiker and Steve Esposito (13thirty Cancer Connect, Program Director) to learn more about how this terrific organization makes a difference.

About 13thirty Cancer Connect

13thirty Cancer Connect, Inc. is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2001 following the death of Melissa Sengbusch who was 19 years old when she died of acute myeloid leukemia. Since its beginning (first called Melissa’s Living Legacy Teen Cancer Foundation), 13thirty has become an internationally known and respected leader in the field of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer because of our strong passion, clear vision, and steadfast commitment to a singular focus – teens and young adults with cancer.

Unlike many other cancer support organizations, we concentrate our efforts and resources on a targeted national problem that affects approximately 89,000 young people in the United States each year. As Melissa asked of her mom, we are making a difference. We are making things better for teens and young adults with cancer around the world.

Scoops and Scripture is a nonprofit ministry that focuses on the heart of the community by going to different places such as nursing homes, children's homes, adult day care centers, women/men rehab facilities, veteran's homes, etc, and building relationships with the residents there. We go bi-weekly or monthly, depending on what the volunteers can do, and have what we call a "Scoops gathering" that consists of devotion, singing, prayer, taking pictures, door prizes, and of course, a big ice cream party! That is the overall gist. It's all about loving and serving and sharing hope.

Episode 35: The Doctor Agent Is In

Healthcare is an important business. As a customer, you are looking for a great doctor. Doctors spent their time in college doing everything they could to become terrific doctors. There wasn’t a lot of time leftover dedicated on how to run a practice. And now that they are running their own practice the last thing you want is them trying to juggle the business end themselves. That is where Melissa “Missy” Marsocci comes in. She is passionate about excellent doctors and provides them with the opportunity to run a high-quality practice. Missy is driven by her passion to help dedicated healthcare professionals go from just a surviving practice to thriving practice. With a degree in Healthcare Administration and a Master’s in Science in Health Systems Administration Missy provides the systems, resources, tools, and support that allows doctors to be doctors and takes away any worry about their business.
